Aims Understanding succession in tropical forest is an important aspect of vegetation science,but to date,successional processes in sea-sonally dry tropical forests(SDtFs)have received much less atten-tion than evergreen humid tropical *** aim to fill this knowledge *** We investigated vegetation succession in SDtF areas consisting of three different successional stages(early,intermediate,late),and a SDtF-savanna ecotone in the municipal district of Juramento,north of minas gerais State,*** twelve 400 m2 plots in each area,we compared vegetation parameters and structural variables(absolute density and basal area)and examined the floristic composition of the tree component to find gradients of *** Findings We found evidence of species turnover along a successional gradi-ent,with the intermediate stage showing the highest species rich-ness and *** was accompanied with a significant increase in the number of tree individuals and basal area from the early to intermediate successional ***,the intermediate and late SDtF successional stages were more similar in structure and *** ecotone was the most species rich and was similar to the intermediate SDtF and early successional stage in species richness and floristic composition *** results will have implications for guiding SDtF management and recovery programs.

The aim of the research was to examine the influence of organo-modified Indian bentonite （IB） nanoclay dispersed in vinyisster on the mechanical properties of nanoclaylvinylesterlglass nanocomposRes. Nanoclay was organically modified using cationic surfactant hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide （HDTmA-Br） by cation exchange method and dispersed in vinylester using ultrasonication and twin screw extrusion. XRD of nanoclaylvinylester revealed exfoliaUon at 4 wt.% nanoclay indicating uniform dispersion in the polymer. DSC results showed improvement in glass transition temperature by 22.3% in 4 wt.% nanoclaylvinylester/glass when compared with that of vinylester/glass. Nanoclay/vinylester/glass with 4 wt,% nanoclay showed 29.23%, 23.84% and 60.87% improvement in ultimate tensile strength （UTS）, fiexural strength （FS） and interlaminar shear strength （ILSS） respectively when compared with those of vinylester! glass. The mode of tensile failure examined by SEm showed no agglomeration of nanoclay in 4 wt.% nanoclayNinylester/glass specimens.

Evaluations of the Sensory Quality Indices and Freshness Assessment of Nile Tilapia Oreochromis niloticus Fillets Fed Recycled Food Waste materials

This study was designed to evaluate the sensory quality indices, freshness assessment and safety of eating Nile tilapia fed recycled food waste materials [food industry waste （FIW） and soy sauce waste （SSW）] for 32 weeks using K values, ImP content and microbial viable cell count. Five experimental diets were formulated at 0% and 20%-22% inclusion level of recycled food wastes. The diets were designated as D 1： 0% of recycled food waste, D2： 20% inclusion of FIW, D3： 20% inclusion of FIW and SSW, D4： 20% inclusion of FIW and tryptophan, and D5： 22% inclusion of SSW. The result from the body composition shows that D I had higher carcass protein, while D3 had the highest lipid content and there was no significant difference in the carcass moisture and ash contents among all treatments. The results of microbial viable cell counts showed that no significant differences were observed among the dietary treatments and all the fish fed experimental diets still remained fresh four days after refrigerated storage at 5 ~C. In addition, no significant differences were noted among the K value concentrations of all the fish fed the experimental diets. From the result of this study, we concluded that using 20% inclusion of recycled food waste materials （FIW and SSW） in the diet of tilapia had no negative effect on the flesh of the fish; hence, recycled food waste could be a good alternative ingredient to aquaculture.

Evaluating instrumented Charpy impact strain signals using curve fitting equations

An effective and simple way to develop equations from impact strain signals was *** research has been performed in this area,but this equation is very important for evaluating input signals in finite element analysis impact tests and for obtaining additional information on material deformation and fracture processes under impact *** this purpose,dynamic impact responses were examined through signals obtained from a strain gauge installed on an impact striker connected to a data acquisition *** 6061-T6 was used to extract strain responses on the striker during Charpy impact *** analysis was performed using the I-kaz method,and curve fitting equations based on the equation for vibration response under a non-periodic force were used to evaluate the Charpy impact *** I-kaz coefficients and curve fitting equations were then compared and discussed with related parameters,such as velocities and *** and thickness were found to be related to the strain signal patterns,curve fitting equations and I-kaz *** equations developed using this method had R2 values greater than 97.7%.Finally,the constructed equations were determined to be suitable for evaluating Charpy impact strain signal patterns and obtaining additional information on fracture processes under impact loading.

mixed convection flow of jeffrey nanofluid with thermal radiation and double stratification

This article addresses the two-dimensional laminar boundary layer flow of magnetohydrodynamic （mHD） Jeffrey nano- fluid with mixed convection. Effects of thermal radiation, thermophoresis, Brownian motion and double stratifications are taken into account. Rosseland＇s approximation is utilized for the thermal radiation phenomenon. Convergent series solutions of velocity, tempe- rature and nanoparticle concentration are developed. graphs of dimensionless temperature and nanoparticle concentration are prese- nted to investigate the influences of different emerging parameters. The values of skin-friction coefficient, local Nusselt and Sherwood numbers are computed and discussed for both Jeffrey and viscous fluids cases. We have observed that the temperature profile retarded for the larger values of Deborah number while an enhancement is noticed with the increasing values of ratio of relaxation to retardation times. Increasing values of thermal and nanoparticle concentration stratifications lead to a reduction in the temperature and nanoparticle concentration. The values of local Nusselt and Sherwood numbers are larger for the viscous fluid case when compared with Jeffrey fluid.

Radioactivity Levels and gamma-Ray Dose Rate in Soil Samples from Kohistan （Pakistan） Using gamma-Ray Spectrometry

The analysis of naturally occurring radionuclides （226Ra, 232 Th and 40 K） and an anthropogenic radionuclide 13r Cs is carried out in some soil samples collected from Kohistan district of N.W.F.P. （Pakistan）, using gamma-ray spectrometry. The gamma spectrometry is operated using a high purity germanium （HPge） detector coupled with a computer based high resolution multi channel analyzer. The specific activity in soil ranges from 24.72 to ***-1 for 22TRa, 21.73 to ***- 1 for 232Th, 7.06 to *** 1 for 1arcs and 298.46 to ***-1 for 40K with the mean values of 42.11, 43.27, 9.5 and ***-1, respectively. The radium equivalent activity in all the soil samples is lower than the safe limit set in the OECD report （370 ***-1）. man-made radionuclide 13r Cs is also present in detectable amount in all sell samples. Presence of 13r Us indicates that the samples in this renlote area also recelvo some fallout from nuclear accident in Chernobyl power plant in 1986. The internal and external hazard indices have the mean values of 0.48 and 0.37 respectively. Absorbed dose rates and effective dose equivalents are also determined for the samples. The concentration of radionuclides found in the soil samples during the present study is nominal and does not pose any potential health hazard to the general public.
