Ballistic performance of titanium-based layered composites made using blended elemental powder metallurgy and hot isostatic pressing

Metal matrix composites tiles based on Ti-6Al-4V (Ti64) alloy, reinforced with 10, 20, and 40 (vol%) of either TiC or TiB particles were made using press-and-sinter blended elemental powder metallurgy (BEPM) and then bonded together into 3-layer laminated plates using hot isostatic pressing (HIP). The laminates were ballistically tested and demonstrated superior performance. The microstructure and properties of the laminates were analyzed to determine the effect of the BEPM and HIP processing on the ballistic properties of the layered plates. The effect of porosity in sintered composites on further diffusion bonding of the plates during HIP is analyzed to understand the bonding features at the interfaces between different adjacent layers in the laminate. Exceptional ballistic performance of fabricated structures was explained by a significant reduction in the residual porosity of the BEPM products by their additional processing using HIP, which provides an unprecedented increase in the hardness of the layered composites. It is argued that the combination of the used two technologies, BEPM and HIP is principally complimentary for the materials in question with the abilities to solve the essential problems of each used individually.

A Survey on Sensor-and Communication-Based Issues of Autonomous UAVs

The application field for Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) technology and its adoption rate have been increasingsteadily in the past years. Decreasing cost of commercial drones has enabled their use at a scale broader thanever before. However, increasing the complexity of UAVs and decreasing the cost, both contribute to a lack ofimplemented securitymeasures and raise new security and safety concerns. For instance, the issue of implausible ortampered UAV sensor measurements is barely addressed in the current research literature and thus, requires moreattention from the research community. The goal of this survey is to extensively review state-of-the-art literatureregarding common sensor- and communication-based vulnerabilities, existing threats, and active or passive cyberattacksagainst UAVs, as well as shed light on the research gaps in the literature. In this work, we describe theUnmanned Aerial System (UAS) architecture to point out the origination sources for security and safety *** the coverage and completeness of each related research work in a comprehensive comparison table as wellas classify the threats, vulnerabilities and cyber-attacks into sensor-based and communication-based ***, for each individual cyber-attack, we describe existing countermeasures or detectionmechanisms andprovide a list of requirements to ensureUAV’s security and *** also address the problem of implausible sensormeasurements and introduce the idea of a plausibility check for sensor data. By doing so, we discover additionalmeasures to improve security and safety and report on a research niche that is not well represented in the currentresearch literature.

This study investigates the effects of Fe on the oxygen-evolution reaction(OER)in the presence of *** distinct areas of OER were identified:the first associated with Fe sites at low overpotential(~330 mV),and the second with Au sites at high overpotential(~870 mV).Various factors such as surface Fe concentration,electrochemical method,scan rate,potential range,concentration,method of adding K_(2)Fe O_(4),nature of Fe,and temperature were varied to observe diverse behaviors during OER for Fe O_(x)H_(y)/*** amounts of Fe ions had a significant impact on OER,reaching a saturation point where the activity did not increase *** electronic interaction between Fe and Au ions was indicated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)and electron paramagnetic resonance(EPR)*** situ visible spectroscopy confirmed the formation of Fe O_(4)^(2-)during *** situ Mossbauer and surfaceenhanced Raman spectroscopy(SERS)analyses suggest the involvement of Fe-based species as intermediates during the rate-determining step of OER.A lattice OER mechanism based on Fe O_(x)H_(y)was proposed for operation at low *** functional theory(DFT)calculations revealed that Fe oxide,Fe-oxide clusters,and Fe doping on the Au foil exhibited different activities and stabilities during *** study provides insights into the interplay between Fe and Au in OER,advancing the understanding of OER mechanisms and offering implications for the design of efficient electrocatalytic systems.

Recombinant Pyriform Spider Silk Expression and Wet-Spinning

Spider silk is capturing the attention of scientists for its mechanical properties,biocompatibility,and *** can produce six types of silks,as well as special glue,which are used for survival and *** the last years of research,scientists deciphered gene sequences and expressed the most common types of spider ***,matching the mechanical properties of recombinant spider silks to native ones is still a big ***,in-depth studies are mostly focused on natural and recombinant ampullate silks,and only a few studies showed achievements on pyriform spidroin(PySp).In this study,repeatable parts of PySp were expressed,purified,and spun into *** cloning strategy allowed to create highly-repetitive region parts clones efficiently in comparison to the traditional restriction enzyme cloning technique.A cost-effective high-yield purification strategy was *** study provides strategies that can help to design recombinant spider silks with the same mechanical properties as native spider silks.

Effect of CeO_2 and Al_2O_3 on the activity of Pd/Co_3O_4/cordierite catalyst in the three-way catalysis reactions(CO/NO/C_nH_m)

The present article studies the effect of CeO2 and A1203 on the activity of Pd/Co304/cordierite catalyst in conversion of NO, CO, CnHm. The catalysts were characterized by temperature programmed reduction with hydrogen, X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy. It is shown that the effect of CeO2 on the properties of Pd/C03 O4/cordierite catalyst depends on preparation method. The catalyst obtained by co-deposition of cerium and cobalt oxides has higher activity in CO oxidation （CO ＋ 02 and CO ＋ NO） and total hexane oxidation （C6H14 ＋ 02）. Such phenomenon is probably caused by more than stoichiometric amount of formed oxygen vacancies, an increase in both mobility of surface oxygen and dispersity of components in the catalytic composition. It is demonstrated that CeO2 addition promotes the SO2 resistance of Pd/C03 O4/cordierite. The second support decreases the activity of Pd/Co3Oa/cordierite catalyst in the reactions of CO and C6H14 with oxygen because of COA1204 formation.

Modern experience of low-coal seams underground mining in Ukraine

Coal is the main energy resource in Ukraine. However geotechnological aspects of coal seams development and Ukrainian crisis have a negative influence on the mining industry. This article analyzes the experience in the development of very low and low-coal seams with 0.7–1.0 m thickness, as well as advanced technological solutions that allowed private coal enterprises, despite the difficult situation in the country, to maintain sufficient(more than 75% of all production) level of steam coal extraction for Ukrainian society. Given that Ukrainian's mining sector development is a huge task, we hope this review will add some discussions into the ongoing conversation.

We have achieved a nickel-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction via concerted paired electrolysis under mild reaction *** this electrochemical transformation,the anodic oxidation of NiII to NiIII and cathodic reduction of NiI to Ni0 occurred simultaneously,resulting in an economical and sustainable cross-coupling ***,weperformed mechanistic investigations,achieved by experiments and density functional theory(DFT)calculations for different C–heteroatom bond formations to reveal the catalytic cycle in more detail.
