Using a double-blind,random.zed and counterbalanced,cross-over design,we assessed naproxen's effects on gastrointestinal(GI)distress and perform.nce in eleven volunteers(6 m.le,5 fem.le).Participants com.leted 4 trials:1)placebo and am.ient);2)placebo and heat;3)naproxen and am.ient;and 4)naproxen and *** variables were one placebo or 220 m. naproxen pill every 8 h(h)for 24 h and am.ient(22.7±1.8℃)or therm.l environm.nt(35.7±1.3℃).Participants cycled 80 m.n at a steady heart rate then 10 m.n for m.xim.m.*** exertion was m.asured throughout *** distress was assessed pre-,during,post-,3 h post-,and 24 h post-cycling using a GI index for upper,lower,and system.c *** statistically significant differences occurred between conditions at any tim. for GI sym.tom. or perceived exertion,distance,or heart rate during m.xim.m.effort.A 24 h naproxen dose did not significantly affect perform.nce or cause m.re frequent or serious GI distress when participants were euhydrated and cycling at m.derate intensity in a therm.l environm.nt.

As the dom.ins, in which robots operate change the objects a robot m.y be required to grasp and m.nipulate, are likely to vary sig- nificantly and often. Furtherm.re there is increasing likelihood that in the future robots will work collaboratively alongside people. There has therefore been interest in the developm.nt of biologically inspired robot designs which take inspiration from.nature. This paper pre- sents the design and testing of a variable stiffness, three fingered soft gripper, which uses pneum.tic m.scles to actuate the fingers and granular jam.ing to vary their stiffness. This gripper is able to adjust its stiffness depending upon how fragile/deform.ble the object being grasped is. It is also lightweight and low inertia, m.king it better suited to operation near people. Each finger is form.d from.a cylindrical rubber bladder filled with a granular m.terial. It is shown how decreasing the pressure inside the finger increases the jam.ing effect and raises finger stiffness. The paper shows experim.ntally how the finger stiffness can be increased from.21 N·m.-1 to 71 N·m.-1. The paper also describes the kinem.tics of the fingers and dem.nstrates how they can be position-controlled at a range of different stiffness values.

BACKGROUND Prim.ry thum. carpom.tacarpal(Cm.)osteoarthritis is one of the m.st com.on conditions encountered by hand *** the vast num.er of operations that have been proposed,none have dem.nstrated results significantly superior to trapeziectom. *** The purpose of our study was to determ.ne why surgeons opt for their technique in treating Cm. *** A cross-sectional survey of active m.m.ers of the Am.rican Society for Surgery of the Hand was conducted to evaluate the reasons behind their preferred technique in the treatm.nt of isolated thum. We investigate transport properties of ballistic m.gnetic Josephson junctions and establish that suppression of supercurrent is an intrinsic property of the junctions,even in absence of *** studying the role of ferrom.gnet thickness,m.gnetization,and crystal orientation we show how the supercurrent decays exponentially with thickness and identify two m.chanism. responsible for the effect:(i)large exchange splitting m.y gap out m.nority or m.jority carriers leading to the suppression of Andreev reflection in the junction,(ii)loss of synchronization between different m.des due to the significant dispersion of the quasiparticle velocity with the transverse *** results for Nb/Ni/Nb junctions are in good agreem.nt with recent experim.ntal *** approach com.ines density functional theory and the Bogoliubov-de Gennes m.del and opens a path for m.terial com.osition optim.zation in m.gnetic Josephson junctions and superconducting m.gnetic spin valves.

This paper shows that one-dim.nsional （I-D） [and three-dim.nsional （3-D） com.utational fluid dynam.cs （CFD）] sim.lations can replace the state-of-the-art usage of pseudo-hom.geneous dispersion or back m.xing m.dels. This is based on standardized lab-scale cell experim.nts for the determ.nation of droplet rise, breakage, coalescence and m.ss transfer param.ters in addition to a lim.ted num.er of additional m.ni-plant experim.nts with original fluids. Alternatively, the hydrodynam.c param.ters can also be derived using m.re sophisticated 3- D CFD sim.lations. Com.utational 1-D m.deling served as a basis to replace pilot-plant experim.nts in any colum. geom.try. The com.ination of 3-D CFD sim.lations with droplet population balance m.dels （DPBm. increased the accuracy of the hydrodynam.c sim.lations and gave inform.tion about the local droplet size. The high com.utational costs can be reduced by open source CFD codes when using a flexible m.sh generation. First com.ined sim.lations using a three way coupled CFD/DPBm.m.ss-transfer solver pave the way for a safer design of industrial-sized colum.s, where no correlations are available.
