Thermal treatment either in the presence of oxygen (calcination) or of a reducing agent (reduction) result is all the time a key issue within the preparation of a catalyst. In this work, a microwave plasma treatment was chosen as an alternative to typical calcinations, because it is a more energy efficient process. Thus, a Microwave Fluidized Bed Plasma reactor (MFBP) was employed in catalyst synthesis process under different gas compositions, such as argon and argon/oxygen mixtures over g-alumina supported silver catalysts, which are generally used for selective reduction of NOx by ethanol. After the first catalytic tests performed in the presence of plasma treated catalyst, it can be concluded that plasma treatment process represents an interesting alternative to conventional calcination during catalyst synthesis, resulting in a more sustainable process, moreover in view of its industrial application. In order to understand the particular effect of plasma treatment, the catalysts submitted to this treatment were carefully characterized by means of thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA), differential thermal analysis (DTA) and UV-VIS-NIR.

Ankle arthrodesis is a common procedure that resolves many conditions of the foot and ankle; however, complications following this procedure are often reported and vary depending on the fixation technique. Various techniques have been described in the attempt to achieve ankle arthrodesis and there is much debate as to the efficiency of each one. This study aims to evaluate the efficiency of anterior plating in ankle arthrodesis using customised and Synthes Tomo Fix plates. We present the outcomes of 28 ankle arthrodeses between 2005 and 2012, specifically examining rate of union, patient-reported outcomes scores, and complications. All 28 patients achieved radiographic union at an average of 36 wk; the majority of patients(92.86%) at or before 16 wk, the exceptions being two patients with charcot joints who were noted to have bony union at a three year review. Patient-reported outcomes scores significantly increased(P complications included two delayed unions as previously mentioned, infection, and extended postoperative pain. With multiple points for fixation and coaxial screw entry points, the contoured customised plate offers added compression and provides a rigid fixation for arthrodesis stabilization.

cellulosomes are synthesized by anaerobic bacteria and fungi to degrade lignocellulose via synergistic action of multiple enzymes fused to a protein *** templating key protein domains(cohesin and dockerin),designer cellulosomes have been engineered from bacterial motifs to alter the activity,stability,and degradation efficiency of enzyme *** a parts list for fungal cellulosomes from the anaerobic fungi(Neocallimastigomycota)was determined,which revealed sequence divergent fungal cohesin,dockerin,and scaffoldin domains that could be used to expand the available toolbox to synthesize designer *** this work,multi-domain carbohydrate active enzymes(cAZymes)from 3 cellulosome-producing fungi were analyzed to inform the design of chimeric proteins for synthetic cellulosomes inspired by anaerobic *** particular,Piromyces finnis was used as a structural template for chimeric carbohydrate active *** enzymes with retained properties were engineered by combining thermophilic glycosyl hydrolase domains from Thermotoga maritima with dockerin domains from Piromyces *** preserving the protein domain order from ***,chimeric enzymes retained catalytic activity at temperatures over 80°c and were able to associate with cellulosomes purified from anaerobic *** cellulosomes harbor a wide diversity of glycoside hydrolases,each representing templates for the design of chimeric *** conserving dockerin domain position within the primary structure of each protein,the activity of both the catalytic domain and dockerin domain was retained in enzyme *** further,the domain positioning inferred from native fungal cellulosome proteins can be used to engineer multi-domain proteins with non-native favorable properties,such as thermostability.

Background The direct oral anticoagulant dabigatran does not require any routine therapeutic drug ***,concerns about possible drug interactions susceptible to increase its inherent bleeding risk,especially in very elderly patients,have been raised *** aim of our study was to evaluate to what extent the co-prescription of P-gp inhibitors with dabigatran may increase its plasma levels and lead to bleeding complications,in usual conditions of care of the very *** Fifty-eight patients over 85 years old with non valvular atrial fibrillation receiving dabigatran were included in a prospective *** were screened for the presence of P-gp inhibitors(Group A)or not(Group B).Results Patients from Group A had increased dabigatran mean plasma concentrations as compared with patients from Group B(A vs.B:182.2±147.3 vs.93.7±64.9 ng/m L).One third of the patients from Group A had dabigatran concentrations that were deemed"out of range"versus none in Group B(P=0.05).This was associated with more frequent bleeding complications in Group A(A:30.4%,B:8.6%,P=0.04).conclusion In our cohort of very elderly patients,at least,the co-prescription of dabigatran with P-gp inhibitors in usual conditions of care resulted in higher dabigatran plasma concentrations and more frequent bleeding occurrences.

Effect of Zinc Galvanization on the Microstructure and Fracture Behavior of Low and Medium carbon Structural Steels

Microstructure and fracture behavior of ASTM 572 Grade 65 steels used for wind tower applications have been studied. Steels of two carbon level chemistries designed for this grade were used in the study. Fracture toughness of the steels was studied using 3-point bend test on samples coated with zinc and not coated with zinc. Lower carbon steel showed higher resistance to fracture than medium carbon steel after zinc galvanization. SEM study suggests that zinc and zinc bath additives that migrated to crack tips are responsible for the loss in ductility. The phenomenon of Liquid Metal Embrittlement (LME) is suggested to have taken place. Zinc bath additives traced at crack zones are suggested to have migrated at the zinc galvanizing temperatures.

The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-covV-2)infection is associated with a hyperinflammatory state and lymphocytopenia,a hallmark that appears as both signature and prognosis of disease severity *** cytokine storm and a sustained inflammatory state are commonly associated with immune cell depletion,it is still unclear whether direct SARS-cov-2 infection of immune cells could also play a role in this scenario by harboring viral *** found that monocytes,as well as both B and T lymphocytes,were susceptible to SARS-cov-2 infection in vitro,accumulating double-stranded RNA consistent with viral RNA replication and ultimately leading to expressive T cell *** addition,flow cytometry and immunofluorescence analysis revealed that SARS-cov-2 was frequently detected in monocytes and B lymphocytes from coronavirus disease 2019(coVID-19)*** rates of SARS-cov-2-infected monocytes in peripheral blood mononuclear cells from coVID-19 patients increased over time from symptom onset,with SARS-coV-2-positive monocytes,B cells,and cD4+T lymphocytes also detected in postmortem lung *** results indicated that SARS-coV-2 infection of blood-circulating leukocytes in covID-19 patients might have important implications for disease pathogenesis and progression,immune dysfunction,and virus spread within the host.
