Early Cretaceous shifting of Zoophycos in the Ouarsenis Mountains(northwestern Algeria)

Early Cretaceous succession of the Oued Fodda Formation in the Ouarsenis Mountains(northwestern Algeria) is mainly composed of marl—limestone alternations, which are subdivided into four informal units(Units 1 to 4), based on distinct lithological, stratonomical, and ichnological features. The ichnological analysis reveals a low diversity of the trace-fossil assemblage, which is exclusively reported from Units 2 and *** ichnoassemblage contains six ichnotaxa(Chondrites intricatus, Ophiomorpha isp., Planolites isp., Thalassinoides isp., Zoophycos brianteus, and Zoophycos cauda-galli), among which Zoophycos and Chondrites are the most common elements of the assemblage and occur in distinct mud-rich substrates showing different bioturbation intensities. The development of Zoophycos in the middle part of Unit 2 shows a high degree of bioturbation(bioturbation index(BI) = 4). Zoophycos specimens are of large size, between 45 cm and 75 cm in width, which were interpreted to have formed in a lower offshore environment where the oxygenation amount was optimal, the sedimentation rate was low, and the benthic food was abundant on the seafloor. Toward the upper part of Unit 2, Zoophycos-bearing levels exhibit a less intense degree of bioturbation(BI between 1 and2) in contrast to Planolites-and Chondrites-bearing levels which have a bioturbation index(BI) between 3 and4. At these levels, Zoophycos displays relatively small, coiled to U-shaped spreiten, probably in response to stressful and dysoxic conditions prevailing in the water bottom. With improved oxygenation in a quiet lower offshore to shelf margin environment in Unit 3, the benthic organisms recovered, as represented by medium to large size Zoophycos in association with Ophiomorpha and scarce Chondrites burrows, even if the overall bioturbation intensity is very low. Sheltered preservation,in which organisms are trapped within shells of cephalopods,is a wellknown *** preservational style constitutes an important source of paleontological ***,we report the first crinoid preserved inside the early Albian ammonite Cleoniceras besairiei Collignon from *** crinoid is assigned to the aspidocrinid phyllocrinid(Apsidocrinus,Phyllocrinidae),and constitutes the first phyllocrinid from the African continent,the second from the southern margin of the Tethys(after New Zealand),and also from the southern *** specimen represents the youngest occurrence of a phyllocrinid in the world as well,and constitutes one of the youngest occurrences of cyrtocrinids from shallow sea environments,before predation-induced migration of the stalked crinoids to the deep sea refugia due to the so-called Mesozoic Marine *** finding highlights that ammonite shells may also be a convenient material for studying echinoderms.

The thiolliericrinids(Thiolliericrinidae) are comatulids(Comatulida),which retained their stalks as ***,we report a centrodorsal from the Bajocian strata(Middle Jurassic) of the Djebel Kérdacha area,northwestern Algeria(Africa).It is the first thiolliericrinid report from outside of Europe and also the oldest representative of the Thiolliericrinidae whose first occurrence is from the *** crinoid is assigned to Copernicrinus zamorae *** *** reported new taxon shows strong similarities with the stemless ‘true’comatulids,Solanocrinites;the only difference is the presence of a facet to the stem in *** closest comparable thiolliericrinid to Copernicrinus is the Oxfordian Thiolliericrinus,interpreted as a descendant of the *** origin and overview of all thiolliericrinid representatives are also discussed herein.

The marl and limestone alternations of the Lower Jurassic Ain Ouarka and Ain Rhezala formations(Pliensbachian-Toarcian)in the western Saharan Atlas,Northwest Algeria,yield a diverse micro-and mac-rofauna,including moderately numerous crinoids,which are represented by remains of isocrinids,i.e.,Bal-anocrinus ticinensis Hess and columnals of the genus *** far,the latter genus has been observed from the Upper Jurassic-Lower Cretaceous strata of Eurasia,North America,and the African ***,the present find is the oldest record of this crinoid genus,and the second one from the southern Tethyan *** this paper,it is shown that Percevalicrinus,which is traditionally regarded as a representative of the subfamily Balanocrininae,displays several features of the subfamily *** crinoid assemblage and associated facies and invertebrate fauna are typical of a low-energy deep outer shelf/ramp(below the storm wave-base)setting.

Rivers increasingly warmer:Prediction of changes in the thermal regime of rivers in Poland

Emphasis on future environmental changes grows due to climate change, with simulations predicting rising river temperatures globally. For Poland, which has a long history of thermal studies of rivers, such an approach has not been implemented to date. This study used 9 Global Climate Models and tested three machine-learning techniques to predict river temperature changes. Random Forest performed best, with R2=0.88 and lowest error(RMSE:2.25, MAE:1.72). The range of future water temperature changes by the end of the 21st century was based on the Shared Socioeconomic Pathway scenarios SSP2-4.5 and SSP5-8.5. It was determined that by the end of the 21st century, the average temperature will increase by 2.1°C(SSP2-4.5) and 3.7°C(SSP5-8.5). A more detailed analysis, divided by two major basins Vistula and Odra, covered about 90% of Poland's territory. The average temperature increase, according to scenarios SSP2-4.5 and SSP5-8.5 for the Odra basin rivers,is 1.6°C and 3.2°C and for the Vistula basin rivers 2.3°C and 3.8°C, respectively. The Vistula basin's higher warming is due to less groundwater input and continental climate *** findings provide a crucial basis for water management to mitigate warming effects in Poland.

Tannic acid and saponin for removing arsenic from brownfield soils: Mobilization, distribution and speciation

Plant biosurfactants were used for the first time to remove As and co-existing metals from brownfield soils. Tannic acid （TA）, a polyphenol, and saponin （SAP）, a glycoside were tested. The soil washing experiments were performed in batch conditions at constant biosurfactant concentration （3%）. Both biosurfactants differed in natural pH, surface tension, critical micelle concentration and content of functional groups. After a single washing, TA （pH 3.44） more efficiently mobilized As than SAP （pH 5.44）. When both biosurfactants were used at the same pH （SAP adjusted to 3.44）, arsenic mobilization was improved by triple washing. The process efficiency for TA and SAP was similar, and depending on the soil sample, ranged between 50%-64%. Arsenic mobilization by TA and SAP resulted mainly from decomposition of Fe arsenates, followed by Fe3＋ complexation with biosurfactants. Arsenic was efficiently released from reducible and partially from residual fractions. In all soils, As（V） was almost completely removed, whereas content of As（III） was decreased by 37%-73%. SAP and TA might be used potentially to remove As from contaminated soils.

Potential Renaturalisation of Lakes as An Element Building Up Water Resources： An Example of Mosina Lake, Poland

Water deficits observed in many regions of the world make it necessary to implement measures intended to improve this situation. Poland is one of the countries with the poorest water resources in Europe due to its natural conditions and human impact. As a result of land reclamation carried out over decades, many elements of its hydrographic system have been changed, and some of them, like lakes, have disappeared altogether. In the days of the socio-economic transformation and more frequent extreme events, what seems worth considering is the renaturalisation of non-existing lakes, an idea presented in this paper on a selected example.

Biochemical and microbial soil functioning after application of the insecticide imidacloprid

Imidacloprid is one of the most commonly used insecticides in agricultural practice, and its application poses a potential risk for soil microorganisms. The objective of this study was to assess whether changes in the structure of the soil microbial community after imidacloprid application at the field rate（FR, 1 mg/kg soil） and 10 times the FR（10 × FR, 10 mg/kg soil）may also have an impact on biochemical and microbial soil functioning. The obtained data showed a negative effect by imidacloprid applied at the FR dosage for substrate-induced respiration（SIR）, the number of total bacteria, dehydrogenase（DHA）, both phosphatases（PHOS-H and PHOS-OH）, and urease（URE） at the beginning of the experiment. In 10 × FR treated soil, decreased activity of SIR, DHA, PHOS-OH and PHOS-H was observed over the experimental period. Nitrifying and N2-fixing bacteria were the most sensitive to imidacloprid. The concentration of NO3-decreased in both imidacloprid-treated soils,whereas the concentration of NH4＋in soil with 10 × FR was higher than in the *** of the bacterial growth strategy revealed that imidacloprid affected the r- or K-type bacterial classes as indicated also by the decreased eco-physiological（EP） *** affected the physiological state of culturable bacteria and caused a reduction in the rate of colony formation as well as a prolonged time for growth. Principal component analysis showed that imidacloprid application significantly shifted the measured parameters, and the application of imidacloprid may pose a potential risk to the biochemical and microbial activity of soils.

Mapping cultural ecosystem services in mountain forests using mobile phone data
