The application of phosphorus(P)to soil can increase its availability to plants and alter P fractions in annual and perennial organs of Cordia *** a portion of P accumulates in perennial organs in organic fractions it can be used in the next growth season,possibly decreasing plant dependence on P derived from soil ***,if P is preferentially accumulated in inorganic fractions in annual organs,plants will be more dependent on phosphate *** study aimed to evaluate the distribution of P fractions in organs of *** grown on sandy soil treated with 120 and 360 kg P2O5 ha^(−1).The control was a zero *** 24 months following fertilization,*** seedlings were cut and separated into leaves,branches,stems and roots,dried,ground and subjected to chemical fractionation of P,which estimates fractions of total soluble P,soluble inorganic and organic P,lipid P,P associated ribonucleic acid and deoxyribonucleic acid,and residual P.P in annual organs,as leaves,accumulated preferentially in the soluble inorganic fraction in both *** perennial organs such as stems and branches,P accumulated preferentially in the soluble organic *** application of 300%of the recommended dosage(360 kg P2O5 ha^(−1))promoted the accumulation of P in soluble organic fractions which may contribute to annual growth the following season and be a strategy to reduce the dependence of 2-year-old stands on soil-derived P and on fertilizers.

The exploitation of agro-industrial wastes is a strategy to add value to seedling production and reduce environmental *** production chain for processed peaches generates,approximately,21,000 tons of fruit worldwide,and the pits are used mainly to generate *** objective of the study was to investigate the use of different proportions of ground peach pits(GPP)as a substrate component for seedling growth of Eucalyptus dunnii in the nursery and *** proportions of GPP mixed with either commercial substrate(CS)or with brown peat(BP)were *** physical and chemical properties of the substrates,the morphological and physiological attributes of the seedlings and their correlation with substrate properties were *** GPP increased the density,aeration space and pH and reduced total porosity,liquid retention and electric conductivity of the *** use of this component resulted in hormesis,a biphasic dose–response model in which low levels of exposure to this component stimulated biological performance of plants and high levels of exposure inhibited *** improved seedling growth in the nursery and adequate post-planting development of ***,GPP with CS is recommended at 20%of the total substrate and with BP between 15 and 30%.

Water availability is a limiting factor for the establishment and development of forest *** understand the appropriate conditions for the initial post-transplanting phase,it is necessary to understand the specific morphophysiological characteristics of the species,such as the leaf water potential and the efficiency of photosystemⅡ.We aimed to identify the influence of different water regimes on the morphophysiological aspects of young plants of two forest species(*** Vellozo and Eucalyptus saligna Sm.).Two greenhouse experiments were conducted for 28 days;one for each *** design was completely randomized,and the treatments consisted of six different water *** water potential(Ψw)and chlorophyll a fluorescence were evaluated every 7 *** the end of the experiment,morphological attributes(height,collection diameter,root volume,and dry matter)were measured and histological blades were *** water demand of *** was higher than that of *** and required greater replacement within a shorter *** rehydration fromΨw=-2 mpa allowed for a fast recovery of the young *** plants(Ψw=-1.5,Fv/Fm=0.796),which indicated good physiological plasticity of this species when submitted to water stress at a level that is not *** total dry matter allocation was different among *** of *** presented the best responses when submitted to a continuous water supply regime,while *** seedlings presented the best response under intermittent irrigation conditions.

The application of phosphorus(P)and a waterretaining polymer to the soil can increase the availability of P for Cordia trichotoma,having a positive effect on the *** objective of this study was to evaluate the morphological,physiological and biochemical characteristics of *** plants were cultivated in a red argisol and treated with 120,240 and 360 kg P2O5 ha^(−1)and no phosphorous addition as a control,in the presence(5 g L^(−1)per seedling)and absence of a water-retaining *** months after planting,survival,height,stem diameter,shoot and root dry matter,leaf area,photosynthetic pigment concentration,chlorophyll a fluorescence,acid phosphatase enzyme activity(APase)and P in tissues and soil were *** polymer had no effect on survival and the other *** addition of P increased growth,dry matter production,photosynthetic pigment concentrations,the use of light energy and maximum quantum yield of photosystem *** cultivated in soil with 240 kg P2O5 ha^(−1)application had 4.7 and 5.4 times more shoot and root dry matter,respectively,than control *** dosage also showed 52.1%greater photochemical energy use than the control *** cultivated without the addition of P showed higher activity of the APase enzyme.

Long-lasting effects of unplanned logging on the seed rain of mixed conifer-hardwood forests in southern South America

Understanding the effects of disturbance on seed rain is critical to predict changes in forest species composition and *** effects on seed rain in a mixed conifer-hardwood forest complex in southern Brazil were *** year of seed rain data were collected from a large-scale observational experiment in logged and protected forests and quantity and average seed size weighted by species abundance(CWm)were compared between old-growth and logged stands 55 years after logging *** these data,variations in frequency of functional groups of species in the seed rain were examined to see if they could be attributed to *** show that the number of seeds per trap was highly right-skewed,ranging from 13 to 12,788 seeds per trap in one *** rain was affected by logging history,with seed traps in old-growth plots receiving significantly less seeds than traps in logged *** species included mean seed size weighted by species abundance were significantly smaller in logged than in old-growth *** difference persisted after the exclusion of Arawcaria a large-seeded pioneer which was intensively logged,although the difference of seed size between the two forest classes was greatly *** abundance in the seed rain differed significantly from the established tree community,between logged and oldgrowth *** composition of the seed rain was much more variable than the composition of the established tree community and its points more scattered over the ordination space than the points corresponding to the protected *** number of collected seeds across different functional groups of species significantly differed between logged and old-growth *** seed rain of logged forests reflects their arrested succes sion as indicated by reduced abundance of functional groups such as pioneers,large seeded pioneers and A raucaria,as well as reduced functional diversity.S eed rain differences between logged and old-

Pushing the limits of liver surgery for colorectal liver metastases:Current state and future directions

Liver surgery for the treatment of colorectal liver metastases is the standard treatment in a dynamic surgical field with many variables that should be considered in a curative intent scenario. Hepatectomy for colorectal liver metastases has undergone constant changes over the last 30 years, including indications until the need for rescue procedures of recurrent and advanced diseases as well as minimally invasive surgery. These advancements in liver surgery have not only resulted from overall improvements in the surgical field but have also resulted from a better understanding of the biological behavior of the disease, liver regeneration, and homeostasis during and after *** in anesthesiology, intensive care medicine, radiology, and surgical devices have correlated with further advancements of hepatectomies. moreover,changes are still forthcoming, and both fields of augmented reality and artificial intelligence will likely have future contributions in this field in regard to both diagnoses and the planning of procedures. The aim of this editorial is to emphasize several aspects that have contributed to the paradigm shifts in colorectal liver metastases surgery over the last three decades as well as to discuss the factors concerning patient selection and the technical aspects of liver surgery. Finally, this editorial will highlight the promising new features of this surgery for diagnoses and treatments in this field.

Finite element model with imposed slip surfaces for earth mass safety evaluation

The study of earth masses requires numerical methods that provide the quantification of the safety factor without requiring detrimental assumptions. For that, equilibrium analysis can perform fast computations but require assumptions that limit its potentiality. Limit analysis does not require detrimental assumptions but are numerically demanding. This work provides a new approach that combines the advantage of both the equilibrium method and the limit analysis. The defined hybrid model allows probabilistic analysis and optimization approaches without the assumption of interslice forces. It is compared with a published case and used to perform probabilistic studies in both a homogeneous and a layered foundation. Analyses show that the shape of the density probability functions is highly relevant when computing the probability of failure, and soil elasticity hardly affects the safety of factor of the earth mass.

Gully erosion is a worldwide problem of land degradation and water quality,and it is also frequent in ***,anthropic influence is the major driver of gully *** study and monitor gullies it is necessary to use specific instruments and methods to obtain accurate *** objective of this study was to use Terrestrial Laser Scanning(TLS) to create digital elevation model(DEm) accurately and define morphometric variables that characterize gullies in a mountainous *** different interpolations were evaluated using the Topogrid and GridSurfaceCreate algorithms to elaborate *** profile for gullies was used to assess modeling *** DEm of the Gully 1(G1) from the Topogrid algorithm estimated soil loss of 49%,whereas the GridSurfaceCreate algorithm estimated a soil loss of97%,in a period of 1 *** estimated soil loss for the Gully 2(G2) was 14% from the Topogrid,and 8%from the GridSurfaceCreate *** GridSurfaceCreate algorithm underestimated the volume to area ratio for G2 due to a failure on interpolating a region of low point *** Topogrid algorithm represented better the terrain irregularities,as observed through the topographic profiles traced in three regions of G1 and *** analysis showed that the GridSurfaceCreate algorithm presented lower accuracy in estimating *** underestimation trend of this algorithm was also observed in *** gullies showed considerable soil losses,which may reduce the areas suitable for agricultural activities,and silting up of water *** Topogrid algorithm presented satisfactory results,denoting great potential to produce morphometric data of gullies.

Given a vertex v of a graph G the second order degree of v denoted as d2（v） is defined as the number of vertices at distance 2 from v. In this paper we address the following question： What axe the sufficient conditions for a graph to have a vertex v such that d2（v） ≥ d（v）, where d（v） denotes the degree of v？ Among other results, every graph of minimum degree exactly 2, except four graphs, is shown to have a vertex of second order degree as large as its own degree. moreover, every K4^--free graph or every maximal planar graph is shown to have a vertex v such that d2（v） ≥ d（v）. Other sufficient conditions on graphs for guaranteeing this property axe also proved.
