The textile indus.ry is.a pioneer in the indus.rialization proces. in Brazil and is.relevant to the Brazilian economy. However, it als. generates.as.operational res.due a s.lid was.e,commonly called textile s.udge. Pavement cons.ruction, which mobilizes.large volumes.of s.il, cons.itutes.an alternative to the reus. of res.due, es.ecially when s.abilization is.involved. The us. of s.abilized s.ils.with the addition of was.e can provide technical,economic and environmentally friendly advantages. This.res.arch aimed to s.udy the us. of chemical s.abilization technique with s.udge and three additives.lime, cement and as.halt emuls.on) applied in bas. and s.bbas. of pavements. The s.ope of this.s.udy was.divided into four phas.s. i) characterization tes.s. ii) phys.cal s.abilization, iii) chemical s.abilization and determination of heavy metals.in the s.udge, and iv) addition of 10% of textile s.udge and chemical s.abilizers.lime, cement, and as.halt emuls.on) in amounts.of 3%, 5% and 7% as.additives.in a s.il, bas.d on the res.lts.obtained in the s.cond phas.. Tes. res.lts.indicated that the s.abilization of mixtures.of s.il with textile s.udge has.the potential to be us.d in pavement layers.bas. and s.bbas.). The addition of cement promotes.the bes. chemical s.abilization for the s.udge. The us. of textile s.udge s.abilization pres.nts.greater environmental benefits. given the malfunctions.and problems.that the incorrect was.e dis.os.l can caus. to the environment.

AIM:To evaluate inflammatory activity in patients.with Crohn's.dis.as. (CD) us.ng technetium-99m-hexamethylpropyleneamine oxime (99mTc-HMPAO) granulocyte ***: Twenty patients.(7 male and 13 female) with CD and five healthy volunteers.were s.lected for 99mTc-HMPAO granulocyte s.intigraphy. The Crohn's.Dis.as. Activity Index (CDAI), blood tes.s.and C-reactive protein (CRP) of each patient were performed 7 d before the s.intigraphic images. The leukocytes.were labeled according to the International s.ciety of Radiolabeled Blood Elements.(Is.RBE) cons.ns.s.protocol and the s.intigraphic images. including s.ngle photon emis.ion computed tomography, were obtained 30 min and 2 h after injection of the radiolabeled ***:The labeling yield of the leukocytes.with the lipophilic complex 99mTc-HMPAO was.55.0%±10%. s.x of the 20 patients.(30%) pres.nted congruent res.lts.for the three parameters.inves.igated (CDAI, s.intigraphic Index and CRP). On the other hand, 14 patients.(70%) did not s.ow congruent res.lts. There was.no s.gnificant correlation between the indices.analyzed according to the s.earman tes. (P>0.05,n=20).CONCLUs.ON: The res.lts.s.gges. that 99mTc-HMPAO-labeled leukocyte s.intigraphy could be important for determining inflammatory activity in CD even in the abs.nce of clinical s.mptoms.

METHODs.A 47-year-old male with an excellent clinical s.atus.and a previous.cholecys.ectomy and an exploratory laparotomy for advanced gas.ric cancer was.referred with obs.ructive jaundice.A preoperative CT s.an s.owed a dilated bile duct and a s.all mas. at the dis.al hepatic *** other s.gns.of metas.as.s.were found.A s.rgical bilioenteric anas.omos.s.was.*** s.rgery,a dis.al choledochal obs.ruction and a mes.nteric retraction by a lymph node mas. prevented the jejunum to as.end for a bilioenteric anas.omos.s. s.rgically,an alternative bilioenteric bypas. was.performed by means.of an ileal loop interpos.tion between the bile duct and the jejunum. REs.LT:The recovery of the patient was.uneventful and his.bilirubin levels.normalized after one *** patient was.then referred for s.s.emic chemotherapy. CONCLUs.ONs.This.alternative biliary bypas. can be s.fely and eas.ly performed,and may be a good alternative for patients.already referred for s.rgery becaus. of a better life expectancy and when the jejunum is.not an alternative.

Des.ite decades.of res.arch on marine algae, there are s.ill s.gnificant gaps.in bas.c knowledge about chemical compos.tion of thes. organis.s. es.ecially in tropical environments. In this.s.udy, the amino acid compos.tion and contents.of total nitrogen, phos.horus. lipid, carbohydrate and protein were determined in As.aragops.s.taxiformis. Centroceras.clavulatum, Chaetomorpha aerea, s.rgas.um filipendula and s.yridia hypnoides. The s.aweeds.s.owed low lipid contents.(lower than 5.5% d.w. in all s.ecies. and were rich in carbohydrates.(more than 16% d.w. in all s.aweeds.. The percentage of nitrogen, phos.horus.and protein varied widely among s.ecies. which red algae s.owed the highes. con-centrations. The amino acid compos.tion was.s.milar among the s.aweeds. which glutamic acid, as.artic acid and leu-cine as.the mos. abundant. All s.ecies.are poor in his.idine. An average of 24.2% of the total nitrogen is.non-proteinaceous. From data of total amino acid and total nitrogen, s.ecific nitrogen-to-protein convers.on factors.were calculated for each s.ecies. The nitrogen-to-protein convers.on factors.calculated ranged from 4.51 to 5.21, with an overall average of 4.86. Thes. findings.s.ow that the traditional convers.on factor of 6.25 s.ould be avoided for s.aweeds. s.nce it overes.imates.the actual protein content.
