The study of asthma in fertile women needs to consider its potentially recurrent exacerbation in a specific phase of the menstrual cycle. Premenstrual asthma(PMA)refers to the deterioration of asthma in some women of fertile age during the premenstrual phase. Prevalence varies considerably according to studies(11%-47.44%) mainly because there is no standardized definition of the illness. There is a possible link between PMA and premenstrual syndrome, which is a set of physical and psychic manifestations that occur in some fertile women during the same premenstrual phase. This relation has been widely studied but there are still several unknowns. PMA etiopathogeny is not known. It involves possible causes such as hormonal variations in the premenstrual phase, the coexistence of atopy, variations during the cycle in substances related to inflammation, like LTC4 leukotrienes, catecholamines, E2 and F2α prostaglandins and certain cytokines. Also considered are psychological factors related to this phase of the menstrual cycle, a high susceptibility to infection or increased bronchial hyperreactivity prior to menstruation. Yet no factor fully explains its etiology, consequently no specific treatment exists. Researchers have investigated hormones, antileukotrienes, prostaglandin synthesis inhibitors, diuretics, phytoestrogens and alternative therapies, but none has been shown to be effective.

Liver cirrhosis(LC) is a chronic illness caused by inflammatory responses and progressive fibrosis. Globally, the most common causes of chronic liver disease include persistent alcohol abuse, followed by viral hepatitis infections and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. However, regardless of the etiological factors, the susceptibility and degree of liver damage may be influenced by genetic polymorphisms that are associated with distinct ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Consequently, metabolic genes are influenced by variable environmental lifestyle factors, such as diet, physical inactivity, and emotional stress, which are associated with regional differences among populations. This Topic Highlight will focus on the genetic and environmental factors that may influence the metabolism of alcohol and nutrients in the setting of distinct etiologies of liver disease. The interaction between genes and environment in the current-day admixed population, Mestizo and Native Mexican, will be described. Additionally, genes involved in immune regulation, insulin sensitivity, oxidative stress and extracellular matrix deposition may modulate the degree of severity. In conclusion, LC is a complex disease. The onset, progression, and clinical outcome of LC among the Mexican population are influenced by specific genetic and environmental factors. Among these are an admixed genome with a heterogenic distribution of European, Amerindian and African ancestry; a high score of alcohol consumption; viral infections; a hepatopathogenic diet; and a high prevalence of obesity. The variance in risk factors among populations suggests that intervention strategies directed towards the prevention and management of LC should be tailored according to such population-based features.

There is no doubt that the chemical composition of plants,including norvolatile and volatile compounds,is widely affected by abiotic and biotic *** are able to biosynthesize a variety of secondary metabolites against actions of natural enemies,such as herbivores,fungus,virus and *** present study revealed that the chemical compositions of leaf essential oils from Ipomoea alba underwent quantitative and qualitative alterations both when infested with the grasshopper Elaeochlora trilineata and mechanically *** attack and mechanical wounding induced the biosynthesis of nine volatile compounds in leaves of ***:cumene,α-ylangene,β-panasinsene,β-gurjunene aromadendrene,β-funebrene,spirolepechinene,cubenol and *** amount of germacrene D(33.2%to 20.4%)decreased when the leaves were mechanically damaged;but when the leaves were attacked by a grasshopper,the germacrene D increased from 33.2%to 39.4%.The results showed that *** leaves clearly responded to abiotic and biotic stress and contribute to an understanding of plant responses to stress conditions.

To study the molecular mechanisms involved in the hepatoprotective effects of naringenin (NAR) on carbon tetrachloride (CClsub>4sub>)-induced liver fibrosis. METHODsThirty-two male Wistar rats (120-150 g) were randomly divided into four groups: (1) a control group (n = 8) that received 0.7% carboxy methyl-cellulose (NAR vehicle) 1 mL/daily p.o.; (2) a CClsub>4sub> group (n = 8) that received 400 mg of CClsub>4sub>/kg body weight i.p. 3 times a week for 8 wk; (3) a CClsub>4sub> + NAR (n = 8) group that received 400 mg of CClsub>4sub>/kg body weight i.p. 3 times a week for 8 wk and 100 mg of NAR/kg body weight daily for 8 wk p.o.; and (4) an NAR group (n = 8) that received 100 mg of NAR/kg body weight daily for 8 wk p.o. After the experimental period, animals were sacrificed under ketamine and xylazine anesthesia. Liver damage markers such as alanine aminotransferase (ALT), alkaline phosphatase (AP), γ-glutamyl transpeptidase (γ-GTP), reduced glutathione (GsH), glycogen content, lipid peroxidation (LPO) and collagen content were measured. The enzymatic activity of glutathione peroxidase (GPx) was assessed. Liver histopathology was performed utilizing Masson’s trichrome and hematoxylin-eosin stains. Zymography assays for MMP-9 and MMP-2 were carried out. Hepatic TGF-β, α-sMA, CTGF, Col-I, MMP-13, NF-κB, IL-1, IL-10, smad7, smad3, psmad3 and pJNK proteins were detected via western blot. REsULTsNAR administration prevented increases in ALT, AP, γ-GTP, and GPx enzymatic activity; depletion of GsH and glycogen; and increases in LPO and collagen produced by chronic CClsub>4sub> intoxication (P ver histopathology showed a decrease in collagen deposition when rats received NAR in addition to CClsub>4sub>. Although zymography assays showed that CClsub>4sub> produced an increase in MMP-9 and MMP-2 gelatinase activity; interestingly, NAR administration was associated with normal MMP-9 and MMP-2 activity (P < 0.05). AIM: To establish an association between the presence of metabolic syndrome and the development of gallstone disease. METHODs: We carried out a cross-sectional study in a check-up unit in a university hospital in Mexico City. We enrolled 245 subjects, comprising 65 subjects with gallstones (36 women, 29 men) and 180 controls (79 women and 101 men without gallstones). Body mass index, waist circumference, blood pressure, plasma insulin, and serum lipids and lipoproteins levels were measured. Insulin resistance was calculated by homeostasis model assessment. Unconditional logistic regression analysis (univariate and multivariate) was used to calculate the risk of gallstone disease associated with the presence of at least three of the criteria (Adult Treatment Panel Ⅲ). Analyses were adjusted for age and sex. REsULTs: Among 245 subjects, metabolic syndrome was present in 40% of gallstone disease subjects, compared with 17.2% of the controls, adjusted by age and gender (odds ratio (OR) = 2.79; 95%CI, 1.46-5.33; P= 0.002), a dose-dependent effect was observed with each component of metabolic syndrome (OR=2.36, 95%CI, 0.72-7.71; P= 0.16 with one component and OR = 5.54, 95%CI, 1.35-22.74; P = 0.02 with four components of metabolic syndrome). Homeostasis model assessment was significantly associated with gallstone disease (adjusted OR = 2.25; 95%CI, 1.08-4.69; P= 0.03). CONCLUsION: We conclude that as for cardiovascular disease and diabetes mellitus, gallstone disease appears to be strongly associated with metabolic syndrome.

In this paper it is shown that cyclostationary spectrum sensing for Cognitive Radio networks, applying multiple cyclic frequencies for single user detection can be interpreted (with some assumptions) in terms of optimal incoherent diversity addition for “virtual diversity branches” or sIMO radar. This approach allows proposing, by analogy to diversity combining, suboptimal algorithms which can provide near optimal characteristics for the Neyman-Pearson Test (NPT) for single user detection. The analysis is based on the Generalized Gaussian (Klovsky-Middleton) Channel Model, which allows obtaining the NPT noise immunity characteristics: probability of misdetection error (PM) and probability of false alarm (Pfa) or Receiver Operational Characteristics (ROC) in the most general way. some quasi-optimum algorithms such as energetic receiver and selection addition algorithm are analyzed and their comparison with the noise immunity properties (ROC) of the optimum approach is provided as well. Finally, the diversity combining approach is applied for the collaborative spectrum sensing and censoring. It is shown how the diversity addition principles are applied for distributed detection algorithms, called hereafter as sIMO radar or distributed sIMO radar, implementing Majority Addition (MA) approach and Weighted Majority Addition (WMA) principle.

In 1967 Gallai characterized permutation graphs in terms of forbidden induced subgraphs. In 1971 Pnueli, Lempel, and Even showed that a graph is a permutation graph if and only if both the graph and its complement have transitive orientations. In 2010 Limouzy characterized permutation graphs in terms of forbidden seidel minors. In this paper, we characterize permutation graphs in terms of a cohesive order of its vertices. We show that only the caterpillars are permutation graphs among the trees. A simple method of constructing permutation graphs is also presented here.
