Physicochemical and Functional Characterization of <i>Mucuna pruries</i>Depigmented starch for Potential Industrial Applications

starch is a very important biopolymer in the food industry. The velvet bean (M. pruriens) is an excellent potential starch source containing approximately 520 g starch per kg. The objective of this study was to evaluate the physicochemical and functional properties of velvet bean depigmented starch. The starch granules appear oval and spherical shaped. The colour registered L*, a*, b* values of 44.9, 0.324 and 0.341 respectively. The chemical composition registered values of moisture, ash, fat, protein, fibre and NFE of 110.5, 5.8, 5.7, 0.0, 34 and 954.5 g/kg respectively, as well as amylose levels of 215.3 g/kg. Gelatinization onset (To), peak (Tp) and final (Tf) temperatures were of 74.23°C, 80.57°C and 86.39°C. The solubility (3.1% - 16.2%), swelling power (sP) (2.86% - 16.17%) and water absorption capacity (WAC) (2.67 - 15.95 g water/g starch) were directly correlated to temperature (60°C - 90°C). The enthalpy values (4.10 - 13.47 j/g) were directly correlated to the time (1 - 21 days). The retrogradation increased as time increased. The viscosity of M. pruriens depigmented starch decreased slightly during the heating stages and then increased during cooling and the refrigeration and freezing stability registered syneresis ranges from 17.65 to 23.18 mL/50mL and from 16.4 to 22.6 mL/50mL respectively, indicating that the depigmented starch was unstable in heating-cooling processes.

This research work was carried out with the aim of continuing to expand knowledge on the behaviour of AIsI 304 stainless steel against solid particle erosion. In this particular case, the steel was subjected to the impact of alumina particles, which are hard abrasives with irregular and angular shapes. Different characterization techniques were applied to gain a better understanding of alumina. For instance, particle size distribution was obtained using the Analysette 28 Image sizer and the particle size was between 300 - 400 µm. sEM and EDs analysis were used to know the morphology and chemical composition of both the abrasive particles and AIsI 304 stainless steel. Additionally, mechanical properties values such as the hardness and Young’s modulus of AIsI 304 steel were attained using a Berkovich indenter (model TTX-NHT, CsM Instruments). On the other hand, two tests were carried out for each impact angle used, 30˚, 45˚, 60˚ and 90˚, with a particle velocity of 24 ± 2 m/s and an abrasive flow rate of 63 ± 0.5 g/min, employing a test rig based on AsTM G76-95 standard. sEM images using two detectors, Backscattered Electron Detector (BED) and Low Electron Detector (LED), were employed to identify the wear mechanisms on the AIsI 304 eroded surfaces at 30˚ and 90˚. Finally, the erosion rates of AIsI 304 compared to those results reached by AIsI 1018 steel and AIsI 420 stainless steel tested under identical conditions in previous works.

Herein,we present the electrocatalytic four-electron hydrogenation of oxalic acid into glycolic acid using black TiO_(2)as an *** acid is an abundant compound found in several sources of organic *** results showed a high selectivity of black TiO_(2)toward glycolic acid,with the formation of glyoxylic acid being the rate-limiting step (glyoxylic acid is the two-electron intermediate).The highest Faradaic efficiency (FE) of 69.6%±8.3% was achieved at 10.2 mA cm^(-2)in 4 h of electrolysis using an H-type cell operated at room temperature,with 50.2%±3.8% of oxalic acid conversion (degradation kinetic constant k=0.0042±0.0001 min-1),58.8%±7.0%of reaction yield and 1.2±0.18 g L-1of glycolic acid production.A theoretical model of black TiO_(2)coming from anatase TiO_(2)was implemented by introducing Ti3+defects,which gave black TiO_(2)the theoretical capability to easily transform oxalic acid into glycolic acid as experimentally *** reaction mechanism was supported and described in detail by density functional theory calculations,which revealed that surface Ti^(3+)states were the main catalytic *** is the first time that a detailed step-by-step mechanism at the atomic level has been proposed for this electrocatalytic reaction,which represents a valuable contribution to the understanding of this process of high energy/environmental *** is also the first time that black TiO_(2)has been used as an electrocatalyst for this sustainable process.

Axonal regeneration following surgical nerve repair is slow and often incomplete,resulting in poor functional recovery which sometimes contributes to lifelong ***,there are no FDA-approved therapies available to promote nerve *** accelerates axonal regeneration,but systemic side effects presently outweigh its potential benefits for peripheral nerve *** authors describe herein a biodegradable polyurethane-based drug delivery system for the sustained local release of tacrolimus at the nerve repair site,with suitable properties for scalable production and clinical application,aiming to promote nerve regeneration and functional recovery with minimal systemic drug *** is encapsulated into co-axially electrospun polycarbonate-urethane nanofibers to generate an implantable nerve wrap that releases therapeutic doses of bioactive tacrolimus over 31 *** and drug loading are adjustable for applications in small and large caliber nerves,and the wrap degrades within 120 days into biocompatible *** released from the nerve wrap promotes axon elongation in vitro and accelerates nerve regeneration and functional recovery in preclinical nerve repair models while off-target systemic drug exposure is reduced by 80%compared with systemic *** its surgical suitability and preclinical efficacy and safety,this system may provide a readily translatable approach to support axonal regeneration and recovery in patients undergoing nerve surgery.

An analytical methodology based on an O-[2-(methacryloyloxy)-ethylcarbamoyl]-10,11-dihydroquinidine(MQD)-silica hybrid monolithic column was developed for the enantioseparation of 9-fluorenylmethoxycarbonyl(FMOC)derivatized amino acids by nano-liquid *** mobile phase was optimized including the apparent pH,content of ACN,and concentration of the buffer to obtain a satisfactory enantioresolution performance.27 FMOC derivatized amino acids including 19 protein and 8 non-protein amino acids were tested,and 19 out of them were enantiomerically discriminated obtaining baseline separation for 11 of *** characteristics of the method were evaluated for norvaline and tryptophan in terms of linearity,precision,accuracy,limits of detection(LOD)and quantitation(LOQ)showing good performance to be applied to the enantiomeric determination of these amino acids in dietary *** and LOQ values were 9.3 and 31 mM for norvaline enantiomers and 7.5 and 25 mM for tryptophan enantiomers,*** contents of D-norvaline and D-tryptophan were below their respective LODs in all the analyzed *** of L-tryptophan and L-norvaline showed good agreement with the labeled contents except for one sample which did not show presence of L-norvaline,contrary to the label indication.
