The sex-biased dispersal and kinship dynamics are important factors shaping the spatial distribution of individuals and are key parameters affecting a variety of ecological and evolutionary ***,we studied the spatial distribution of related individuals within a population of corn mice Calomys musculinus in a seasonal cycle to infer dispersal *** sampling was carried out from spring 2005 to winter 2006 in field borders of intensively managed *** data from 346 individuals with 9 microsatellites showed spatial genetic structure was weak for males,but not for *** results indicate a complex spatial kinship dynamic of related females across all ***,contrary to our expectations,dispersal distances decrease with the increase of the population ***,male dispersal distances were greater when population abundance increased and thus the availability of active *** disperse greater distances to mate and sire offspring with distant females as a possible inbreeding avoidance *** study shows that *** is capable of much greater scattering distances than previously reported and that dispersal occurs fluidly and without barriers across the *** indirect benefit of dispersal on individual fitness could be related to relaxing the competition in the natal area and increasing the mating *** study highlights the value of combining genetic relatedness,fieldwork observations,and behavioral data to estimate dispersal at a fine geographical scale.

Driving the sodium-oxygen battery chemistry towards the efficient formation of discharge products: The importance of sodium superoxide quantification

Sodium-oxygen batteries(SObs) have the potential to provide energy densities higher than the state-ofthe-art Li-ion batteries. However, controlling the formation of sodium superoxide(NaO_(2)) as the sole discharge product on the cathode side is crucial to achieve durable and efficient SObs. In this work, the discharge efficiency of two graphene-based cathodes was evaluated and compared with that of a commercial gas diffusion layer. The discharge products formed at the surface of these cathodes in a glyme-based electrolyte were carefully studied using a range of characterization techniques. NaO_(2) was detected as the main discharge product regardless of the specific cathode material while small amounts of Na_(2)O_(2).2H_(2)O and carbonate-like side-products were detected by X-ray diffraction as well as by Raman and infrared spectroscopies. This work leverages the use of X-ray diffraction to determine the actual yield of NaO_(2)which is usually overlooked in this type of batteries. Thus, the proper quantification of the superoxide formed on the cathode surface is widely underestimated;even though is crucial for determining the efficiency of the battery while eliminating the parasitic chemistry in SObs. Here, we develop an ex-situ analysis method to determine the amount of NaO_(2) generated upon discharge in SObs by transmission X-ray diffraction and quantitative Rietveld analysis. This work unveils that the yield of NaO_(2) depends on the depth of discharge where high capacities lead to very low discharge efficiency, regardless of the used cathode. We anticipate that the methodology developed herein will provide a convenient diagnosis tool in future efforts to optimize the performance of the different cell components in SObs.

目的:本实验研究了以非致死剂量脂多糖(Lipopolysaccharide,LPS)攻击半乳糖葡胺(D-galactosamine,D-GalN)增敏小鼠的死亡是否伴有重要器官的凋亡特征。方法:实验组小鼠以LPS(0.05μg)与D-GalN(20mg)直接攻击,而对照组小鼠仅仅以LPS或D-GalN,在规定实验时间经乙醚麻醉后,取出脑、肾、心、脾、肺、肝,并立即匀浆和抽提DNA,对所抽提的各器官的DNA以常规琼脂糖凝胶电泳分析是否存在DNA梯度现象;并测定血浆中乳酸脱氢酶和谷氨酸草酰乙酸转移酶,同时将DNA片段化现象与小鼠致死作用的关联性在实验组和对照组间做比较。结果:LPS攻击b-GalN增敏的小鼠4h时,在所检测的器官中,仅仅肝脏可见到凋亡特征DNA片段化现象,至7h时小鼠死亡。而仅用LPS或D-GalN攻击的对照组小鼠,不仅全部存活而且肝脏DNA分子完整。结论:LPS攻击b-GalN增敏的小鼠,肝脏是唯一出现DNA片段化的靶器官,由细菌LPS引发小鼠的死亡,肝脏的损伤可能是关键的原因。

Phytotoxic effect of Sesbania virgata(Cav.) *** seeds of agronomic and forestry species

Sesbania virgata（Cav.） *** a pioneer species native to South America able to release allelochemicals that affect germination and development of other plant *** aim of this work was to evaluate the allelopathic effect of *** on the germination and development of co-occurring species from gallery forest and on agronomic *** forest native species,Enterolobium contortisiliquum（Vell.） Morong and Sapindus saponaria L.,and two agronomic species（these as control）,Oryza sativa *** Solanum lycopersicum *** used in the lab and greenhouse assays with seeds and leaf extracts of *** species were more affected than native species when co-germinated with seeds of *** germination percentage and speed germination index of the agronomic species were reduced in both in vitro and greenhouse *** the same assays,the seeds of native species showed no significant differences in the parameters ***,the initial growth of the four species assayed was affected,with reduction in plant length and shoot diameter followed by significant reduction in plantlet shoot and root *** the assays with irrigation of *** leaf extracts,no significant inhibitory effects on germination were observed for all *** and shoot diameter of the native species were not affected by the leaf extracts,nor were fresh and dry ***,these parameters increased in the agronomic species as they were irrigated with leaf *** on our data we conclude that seed leachates of *** affect germination and seedling development of other species,suggesting that its invasive behavior is due mainly to seed *** with less pronounced effects on native species,allelopathy of *** might also influence Interspecific competition in its natural environment.

Genetic characterization of far eastern species of the genus <i>Crepidostomum</i>(Trematoda: Allocreadiidae) by means of 28S ribosomal DNA sequences

Genetic divergence and phylogenetic relationships of four species of the genus Crepidostomum braun, 1900 sensu Caira, bogea (2005) were revealed using partial sequences of 28S ribosomal RNA gene. Genetic divergence between C. cf. farionis (Muller, 1784) and C. nemachilus Krotov, 1959 was 3.1%, which corresponds to the mean value of interspecific divergence between Crepidostomum species. These two species, therefore, can be recognized as bonafide species. However, we found no genetic differences between 28S rRNA gene sequences of C. nemachilus and C. cf. metoecus braun,1900 inspite of considerable morphological and ecological differences. Maximal values of genetic p-distances were revealed between C. cf. auriculatum Wedl, 1857 and C. cf. farionis. Phylogenetic relationships of Crepidostomum spp. for which sequence data are available, along with species in other related genera (bunodera Railliet, 1896 and Allocreadium Loss, 1900) showed a paraphyly of the genus Crepidostomum. Considerable differentiation of C. cf. auriculatum from other Crepidostomum species was revealed, which may reflect the original description of this species in a separate genus Acrolichanus Ward, 1917. Our results are consistent with the conventional systematics that places the four genera (Crepidostomum, bunodera, Megalogonia and Allocreadium) within the same family.

Comprehensive semen examination in patients with pancreatic-sufficient and pancreatic-insufficient cystic fibrosis

We examined a cohort of 93 cystic fibrosis(CF)male patients who were pancreatic-sufficient(PS-CF;n=40)or pancreatic-insufficient(PI-CF;n=53).Complex semen examination was performed,including standard semen analysis,quantitative karyological analysis(QKA)of immature germ cells(IGCs),transmission electronic microscopy(TEM),biochemical analysis,and sperm DNA fragmentation by terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nickend labeling(TUNEL)*** was diagnosed in 83(89.2%)*** other 10(10.8%)patients were found to be nonazoospermic and showed various spermatological diagnoses(asthenozoospermia,n=2;asthenoteratozoospermia,n=3;oligoasthenozoospermia,n=1;oligoasthenoteratozoospermia,n=3;and normozoospermia,n=1)with no specific morphological *** was detected in 89.2%azoospermic and 30.0%nonazoospermic *** seminal pH(by QKA of *** content of fructose and citrate was low in oligospermic and normal in nonoligospermic semen *** increased percentage(>30%)of spermatozoa with noncondensed(“immature”)chromatin was revealed in 2 of 6 nonazoospermic semen samples analyzed by TEM.
