Background : Osteoporosis can make bone repair difficult. low-level laser therapy( lllT) has been shown to be a promising tool for bone neoformation. This study aimed to analyze the effect of lllT on calvaria bone defects of ovariectomized rats using stereology. Methods : Fifty-four Wistar rats were subjected to bilateral ovariectomy, and bone defects were created in calvaria after 150 days. The animals were divided into nine groups(n = ?6 per group), and 24 hours after the bone defects were created they received three, six or 12 sessions of lllT at 0, 20 or 30 J/cm 2, using a 780-nm low-intensity GaAlAs laser. One-way ANOVA followed by Tukey ' s post hoc test was used for data processing. A difference of P lly significant. The parameters evaluated were osteocyte density( Nv_(ost)), total osteocyte number( Nto ost), trabecular surface density( Sv_t), and trabecular surface area( Sa_t). Results : Data obtained showed that Nto ost, Sv t, and Sa t in group G2 rats were significantly different from G1(0 J/cm^2)( P lues for the parameters Sv t and Sa t, and G6 presented significantly higher values for almost all the analyzed parameters( Nv _(ost), Nto_(ost), Sv_t, and Sa t)( P lue only for the parameter Sa t, and G9 showed significantly higher values for parameters Nv ost, Nto ost, Sv_t, and Sa_t. Conclusion : We conclude that lllT stimulated bone neoformation and contributed to an increase in the total number of osteocytes, especially with a laser energy density of 30 J/cm^2 given for six and 12 sessions.

The fast growing development of wind power in Uruguay has encouraged research on many issues regarding environmental acoustics, especially those related to wind turbines operation. As every new power generation device of 10 MW or larger has to have an environmental license approval before building it, a methodology for Acoustic Impact Studies (AIS) was needed. This paper presents a methodology proposal to carry out AIS, taking into account the peculiarities of the Uruguayan status. Determining the area where the studies should be done, demands for the base line of sound pressure levels, predicting sound pressure levels during the operation of future wind farm and main lines for the environmental management plan are included in this proposal. Uruguayan current national guidelines to noise pollution levels are also presented.

This paper attempts to present some registers of sound pressure levels during the operation of large diesel engines (10 MW). During these registers we have found the preparation, occurrence and ending of events of thermoacoustic instability. They appear after a loosing of chaos period or a reduction in fluctuations in some frequencies. The most interesting phenomena were registered at low frequencies. However, they were accompanied by variations in sound emissions at medium and high frequencies. As there has been very little published data concerning these phenomena at real scale, it is imperative to point out that every quasi-stationary state we have measured during these episodes has lasted some minutes, significantly much more time than that of lab scale results.

Background:Persistent patent ductus arteriosus(pPDA)is a common condition in preterm *** metaanalysis aimed to assess the safety and efficacy of transcatheter closure(TC)when compared to surgical ligation(Sl)in preterm infants with ***:A literature search of Ovid Cochrane library,Medline,Embase,Epub,Scopus,PMC Preprints,and *** was conducted from inception to May 06,*** studies reported infants diagnosed with pPDA born at≤2000 g birth weight or at≤37 weeks’who underwent TC or Sl as *** review was registered in PROSPERO(CRD42022325944).Results:From 97 studies screened,8 studies met the eligibility criteria,with a total of 756 preterm infants undergoing either TC(n=366)or Sl(n=390).Compared to TC,Sl had higher mortality rates(OR=0.32,95%CI:0.16,0.66,I^(2)=0%).No difference was seen in post-procedural complication rate(OR=0.90,95%CI:0.18,4.44,I^(2)=79%),mean duration of post-procedural mechanical ventilation(MD=−2.21 days,95%CI:−4.88,0.47,I^(2)=60%),hospital stay length(MD=−8.30 days,95%CI:−17.03,0.44,I^(2)=0%)or neonatal intensive care unit stay length(MD=−3.50 days,95%CI:−10.27,3.27,I^(2)=0%).Conclusion:Our meta-analysis demonstrated TC as a viable alternative option in managing preterm infants with pPDA in the context of *** the promising trends demonstrated in this meta-analysis,further studies with larger sample size and controlled baseline characteristics are needed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of TC and Sl for preterm infants with pPDA.

Anxiety-Behavior Modulated by Ventral Medial Prefrontal Cortex of Rats Submitted to the Vogel Conflict Test Involves a local NMDA Receptor and Nitric Oxide

It was demonstrated in the Vogel conflict test (VCT) that the ventral portion of medial prefrontal cortex (vMPFC) of rats is involved with anxiety behavior. Moreover, the vMPFC local glutamatergic and nitrergic system interaction is involved in modulation of fear conditioning, a model of anxiety. To better understand the role of the MPFC-glutamatergic and nitrergic system on the VTC behavior response, male Wistar rats (250 g) were water deprived for 48 h before the VCT. After 24 h of water deprivation, they were subjected to an initial 3-min non-punished (pre-test) drinking session. Twenty-four hours later bilateral microinjections of NMDA-antagonist lY235959 (4 nmol/200 nl), the specific nNOS inhibitor N-Propyl-l-arginine (N-Propyl –0.08 nmol/200 nl), the NO scavenger Carboxi-PTIO (C-PTIO, 2 nmol/200 nl) or 200nl of vehicle were applied in the vMPFC. After 10 min, the animals were submitted to 3-min punished-licking session. lY235959 increased the number of punished licks. Similar to lY235959, both N-Propyl and C-PTIO also increased the number of punished licks. No changes were observed when lY235959, N-Propyl and C-PTIO were micro- injected into vMPFC surrounding structures such as the cingulate cortex area 1, the corpus callosum and the tenia tecta. In control experiments these drugs did not change neither the number of unpunished licks nor had any effect in the tail-flick test. The results show that NO signaling in the vMPFC can modulate anxiety-behavior in the VCT by control punished behavior. Moreover, this NO modulation could be associated with local glutamatergic activation through NMDA receptors.

Several polyphenolic compounds, including twelve flavonols and a variety of lower molecular weight compounds were found to diminish the effects of CuZnSOD on NMR relaxation of fluoride ion in a pH and concentration dependent manner. While we originally thought the effect arose from binding of the compounds to the enzyme active site, several lines of evidence indicated that active polyphenols reduced the paramagnetic copper(II) form of the enzyme to the diamagnetic copper(I) form, thereby giving false positive indications of enzyme inhibition in the NMR assay. First, docking experiments failed to provide a satisfactory explanation of the SAR. Second, effects on the enzyme’s EPR spectrum indicated that catechols could bind the active site copper leading to enzyme reduction. Third, while these reactions did not proceed to completion in aerobic solution, they did so under inert atmosphere. Fourth, experiments employing superoxide producing compounds demonstrated that loss of NMR activity did not prevent the enzyme from redox cycling. Thus, while the polyphenols appeared to inhibit the enzyme in the NMR assay, the compounds did not inhibit the enzyme’s reactions with superoxide.
