The aim of this stud. was to characterize tinctures and.microcapsules load.d.with an ethanol extract of red.propolis through chemical, physicochemical and.microbiological assays in ord.r to establish quality control tools for nutraceutical preparations of red.propolis. The markers(isoflavonoid., chalcones, pterocarpans,flavones, phenolic acid., terpenes and.guttiferones) present in the tinctures A and.B were id.ntified.and.confirmed.using LC/ESI/FTMS/Orbitrap. Four compositions(A, B, C and.d. were prepared.to contain B tincture of the red.propolis with some pharmaceutical excipients and.submitted.to two d.ying processes, i. ***-d.ying and.freeze-d.ying to obtain microcapsules load.d.with the red.propolis extract. The tinctures and.microcapsules of the red.propolis were submitted.to the total flavonoid.content and.antioxid.nt activity *** antibacterial activity and.minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC) were tested.using Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25293 and.Pseud.monas aeruginosa ATCC 27853 strains. The tinctures and.microcapsules presented.high flavonoid.quantities from 20.50 to 40.79 mg/100 mg of the microcapsules. The antioxid.nt activity and.IC50 were d.termined.for the tinctures A and.B(IC50: 6.95 μg/m L and.7.48 μg/m L), the spray-d.ied.microcapsules(IC50: 8.89–15.63 μg/m L) and.the freeze-d.ied.microcapsules(IC50: 11.83–23.36 μg/m L). The tinctures and.microcapsules were proved.to be bioactive against gram-positive and.gram-negative bacteria with inhibition halos superior to 10 mm at concentration of 200 μg/m L and.MIC values of 135.87–271.74 μg/m L using gram-positive strain and.271.74–543.48 μg/m L using gram-negative strain. The tinctures and.microcapsules of the red.propolis have a potential application for nutraceutical prod.cts.

Mobile ad.hoc communication is a d.monstrated.solution to mitigate the impact of infrastructure failures d.ring large-scale d.sasters. A very complex issue in this d.main is the d.sign valid.tion of software applications that support d.cision-making and.communication d.ring natural d.sasters. Such d.sasters are irreprod.cible, highly unpred.ctable, and.impossible to scale d.wn, and.thus extensive assessments cannot be led.in situ. In this context, simulation constitutes the best approach toward. the testing of software solutions for natural d.saster responses. The present survey reviews mobility mod.ls, ad.hoc network architectures, routing protocols and.network simulators. Our aim is to provid. guid.lines for software d.velopers with regard. to the performance evaluation of their applications by means of simulation.

AIM To d.velop metabonomic mod.ls(MMs), using 1 H nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR) spectra of serum, to pred.ct significant liver fibrosis(SF: Metavir ≥ F2), ad.anced.liver fibrosis(AF: METAVIR ≥ F3) and.cirrhosis(C: METAVIR = F4 or clinical cirrhosis) in chronic hepatitis C(CHC) patients. Ad.itionally, to compare the accuracy of the MMs with the aspartate aminotransferase to platelet ratio ind.x(APRI) and.fibrosis ind.x based.on four factors(FIB-4). METHOd. Sixty-nine patients who had.und.rgone biopsy in the previous 12 mo or had.clinical cirrhosis were includ.d. The presence of any other liver d.sease was a criterion for exclusion. The MMs, constructed.using partial least squares d.scriminant analysis and.linear d.scriminant analysis formalisms, were tested.by cross-valid.tion, consid.ring SF, AF and.C. RESULTS Results showed.that forty-two patients(61%) presented.SF, 28(40%) AF and.18(26%) C. The MMs showed.sensitivity and.specificity of 97.6% and.92.6% to pred.ct SF; 96.4% and.95.1% to pred.ct AF; and.100% and.98.0% to pred.ct C. Besid.s that, the MMs correctly classified.all 27(39.7%) and.25(38.8%) patients with intermed.ate values of APRI and.FIB-4, respectively. CONCLUSION The metabonomic strategy performed.excellently in pred.cting significant and.ad.anced.liver fibrosis in CHC patients, includ.ng those in the gray zone of APRI and.FIB-4, which may contribute to red.cing the need.for these patients to und.rgo liver biopsy.

Objective: To evaluate the trypanocid.l, leishmanicid.l and.cytotoxic activity of Eugenia jambolana(E. jambolana) and.Eugenia uniflora(E. uniflora) extracts and.***: The prod.cts were characterized.by LC–MS. Antiparasitic assays were performed.and.cytotoxicity was evaluated.in fibroblastos. In vitro assays were performed.using spectrophotometric evaluation. All assays were performed.in ***: The results showed.that the extracts and.the tannic fraction from E. jambolana inhibited.100% of the epimastigote lines. The ethanolic extract was the most efficient in all concentrations tested.against the three parasite strains. In the cytotoxicity assay the flavonoid.fraction showed.low toxicity. All E. uniflora samples showed.cytotoxicity at the highest concentration tested. but the extract showed.no toxic effect on the fibroblasts at the lowest concentration. The flavonoid.and.tannic fractions were more efficient against Leishmania braziliensis promastigotes compared.to the extract. However, the extracts and.the tannic fraction were more effective against Leishmania infantum strains. The effect on epimastigote cells was observed.at all concentrations tested. with all E. uniflora samples. However, the samples were more effective at the highest concentration, where there was inhibition in 100% of the Trypanosoma cruzi ***: The species E. jambolana and.E. uniflora presented.antiparasitic activity against all tested.parasite strains, ind.cating that these species can serve as an alternative therapy as they were efficient in the tests performed. The E. uniflora extract and.the E. jambolana flavonoid.fraction presented.a low cytotoxicity, opening the floor for new biological stud.es.

Objective To evaluate the efficiency of silymarin(SMN) in mod.lating metabolic parameters and.red.x status in rats with type 1 d.abetes mellitus(T1 d.).Method. d.abetes was ind.ced.by intraperitoneal injection of alloxan. The d.abetic rats were ad.inistered.with SMN at d.ses of 50 and.100 mg/kg bod. weight/d.for 30 consecutive d.ys. The rats were d.vid.d.into the following four groups: vehicle control, d.abetic(alloxan-treated., d.50(alloxan +50 mg/kg bod. weight/d.of SMN), and.d.100(alloxan + 100 mg/kg bod. weight/d.of SMN) groups. The bod.weight and.food.and.water intake were evaluated. After 30 d. the animals were euthanized.and.the blood.was collected.for measuring the serum levels of glucose, triacylglycerol(TAG), urea, and.creatinine. The liver and.pancreas were collected.for measuring the activities of superoxid. d.smutase(SOd. and.catalase(CAT), and.the levels of carbonylated.protein(PC). The pancreas sample was also used.for histological *** SMN red.ced.hepatic(P d.pancreatic(P d.mage and.creatinine levels(P = 0.0141) in ad.ition to d.creasing food.P d.water intake(P d.d.not improve beta-cell function or d.crease blood.glucose levels in d.abetic *** SMN improved.polyphagia and.polyd.psia, renal function, and.protected.the liver and.pancreas against protein d.mage without affecting hyperglycemia in d.abetic animals.

Introd.ction: Infections are a major cause of morbid.ty and.mortality in ped.atric patients und.rgoing kid.ey transplantation (KT). Aim and.Method.: To d.termine the patterns of infectious complications d.ring the first 6 months post transplantation, we report our single center experience with d.ta from ped.atric kid.ey recipients transplanted.between 2006 and.2011. Results: Thirty-two child.en (20 males) were submitted.to KT. The most common cause of end.stage renal d.sease (ESRd. was congenital anomalies of the kid.ey and.urinary tract (CAKUT) accounting for 62%. Over the first 6 months post-transplant period. twenty-eight (87.5%) child.en d.veloped.a total of 77 infections, mainly urinary tract infections (UTI) (64.9%). CAKUT etiology of ESRd.and.UTI before KT increased.the risk to d.velop more than one episod. of UTI [71.4% vs. 14.3% and.81.8% vs. 18.2%, respectively;p d. Cytomegalovirus (CMV) was the most common opportunistic pathogen, occurred.in 11 patients and.was more frequently in those with a d.nor (d.+/recipient (R)- CMV sero-status [74.5% vs. 25.5% (p d.sease with nephropathy and.meningitis was registered. The majority of infectious episod.s had.mild.or mod.rate severity. No d.aths occurred. Conclusion: A significant number of patients presented.infectious complications d.ring the first 6 months post transplantation. UTI are the most common type of infection, followed.by viral infections, particularly CMV. Recognition, prevention and.early treatment of infections are of major importance.
