Recent progress on bimetallic NiCo and CoFe based electrocatalysts for alkaline oxygen evolution reaction: A review

The deployment of hydrogen as an energy carrier is found to be a vital alternative fuel for the future. It is expected that water electrolysis, powered by renewable energy sources, be able to scale-up hydrogen production. However, the reaction kinetic of oxygen evolution reaction(OER) is a sluggish process, which predominantly limits the efficiency of water electrolysis. This review recapitulates the recent progress and efforts made in the design and development of two selected earth-abundant bimetallic electrocatalysts(Ni Co and Co Fe) for alkaline OER. Each bimetal electrocatalyst is thoroughly outlined and discussed in five sub-sections, including bimetal(oxy) hydroxides, Layered double hydroxides(LDHs) structures,oxides, composites, alloy and nanostructured electrocatalysts, and assembled with heteroatoms.Furthermore, a brief introduction to an in situ/operando characterization techniques and advantages for monitoring the structure of the electrocatalysts is provided. Finally, a summary outlining the challenges and conceivable approaches to advance OER performance is highlighted and discussed.

BACKGROUND Metabolic associated fatty liver disease(MAFLD)is associated with complications and mortality in patients with coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19).However,there are no prognostic scores aimed to evaluate the risk of severe disease specifically in patients with MAFLD,despite its high prevalence.Lactate dehydrogenase,aspartate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase have been used as markers of liver damage.Therefore,we propose an index based on lactate dehydrogenase,aspartate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase for the prediction of complications and mortality in patients with MAFLD and COVID-19.AIM To evaluate the prognostic performance of an index based on lactate dehydrogenase and transaminases(aspartate aminotransferase/alanine aminotransferase)in patients with COVID-19 and MAFLD[liver fibrosis and nutrition(LNF)-COVID-19 index].METHODS In this retrospective cohort study,two cohorts from two different tertiary centers were included.The first was the derivation cohort to obtain the score cutoffs,and the second was the validation cohort.We included hospitalized patients with severe COVID-19 and MAFLD.Liver steatosis was evaluated by computed tomography scan.Area under the receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve analysis and survival analysis were used.RESULTS In the derivation cohort,44.6%had MAFLD;ROC curve analysis yielded a LFN-COVID-19 index>1.67 as the best cutoff,with a sensitivity of 78%,specificity of 63%,negative predictive value of 91%and an area under the ROC curve of 0.77.In the multivariate analysis,the LFN-COVID-19 index>1.67 was independently associated with the development of acute kidney injury(odds ratio:1.8,95%confidence interval:1.3-2.5,P<0.001),orotracheal intubation(odds ratio:1.9,95%confidence interval:1.4-2.4,P<0.001),and death(odds ratio:2.86,95%confidence interval:1.6-4.5,P<0.001)in both cohorts.CONCLUSION LFN-COVID-19 index has a good performance to predict prognosis in patients with MAFLD and COVID-19,which could be useful for the MAFLD population.

Background:In January 2005,Rasulov et al.originally published"First experience in the use of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)for the treatment of a patient with deep skin burns".Here,we present the first ever treated patient with cadaveric bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells(CMSCs)in the history of Medicine.Methods:A young man,who severely burned 60%of his total body surface with 30%of full-thickness burns while working with a grass trimmer that exploded,was involved in the study.MSCs were obtained from the bone marrow of a cadaver donor in a routine procurement procedure of CUCAIBA,the Province of Buenos Aires,Argentina,Ministry of Health,Transplantation Agency,cultured,expanded,and applied on the burned surfaces using a fibrin spray after early escharotomy.Results:So far,our preliminary experience and our early results have been very impressive showing an outstanding safety data as well as some impressive good results in the use of CMSCs.Conclusions:Based on al this,we think that improvements in the use of stem cells for burns might be possible in the near future and a lot of time as well as many lives could be saved by many other research teams all over the world.CMSCs will probably be a real scientific opportunity in Regenerative Medicine as well as in Transplantation.

Tentative Identification of Phytochemicals and Antioxidant Activities during Fruit-Ripening on Chamaedorea radicalis mart.

This work aims to determine the phytochemical characterization of the pericarp of Chamaedorea radicalis mart.fruit as a non-timber product with potential to obtain phytochemicals with potential applications in the industry.Fruit from C.radicalis were grouped in four ripening stages named as S1,S2,S3 and S4,according to maturity;S1 the most unripe stage and S4 the completely ripe stage.Determinations of total phenolic compounds,free radical scavenging activities and total flavonoid contents using spectrophotometric methods were done.Also,the tentative identification of phytochemicals during fruit ripening was done using UPLC-MS-MS.Total phenolic compound(TPC)content ranged from 7.24 to 12.53 mg gallic acid equivalents per gram of fresh weight(mg GAE/g FW).Total flavonoids(TF)contents ranged from 0.163 to 0.23 mg of quercetin equivalents per g FW(mg QE/g FW).Free radical scavenging activity against DPPH and ABTS radicals varied from 40.80 to 53.68 and from 22.29 to 37.76 mmol Trolox equivalents g FW(mmol TE/g FW),respectively.Antioxidant assay in vitro by FRAP(ferric reducing antioxidant power)method showed that S3 was the highest level with antioxidant power while S4 was the lowest with Red ripeness stage showed the lowest contents for all determinations.Mass spectrometry allowed detection of 26 compounds,including phenolics,alkaloids and saponins.Afzelin,Kaempferol 3-neohesperidoside and the four saponins identified were present in all ripeness stages.Preliminary phytochemical identification and the spectrophotometric determinations showed that the pericarp of C.radicalis presented antioxidants and compounds related to alkaloids,phenolics and saponins.The presence and abundance of each phytochemical regarding each ripeness stage should be considered.
