Pancreatic cancer is the 7th leading cause of death due to cancer in industrializedcountries and the 11th most common cancer globally, with 458918 new cases (2.5%of all cancers) and 432242 deaths (4.5% of all cancer deaths) in 2018. Unfortunately,80% to 90% of the patients present with unresectable disease, and thereported 5-year survival rate range between 10% and 25%, even after successfulresection with tumor-free margins. Systemic chemotherapy, radiotherapy, andminimally invasive image-guided procedures that have emerged over the pastyears, are used for the management of non-operable PC. This review focuses oncurrently available non-surgical options of locally advanced pancreatic cancer.

Background: Fruit pomaces are by-products rich in polyphenol compounds and dietary fiber. They seem to play an important role in regulating the gut microbiota, morphology and physiology. The aim of this study was to assess whether apple(A), blackurrant(B) or strawberry(S) pomaces could be suitable ingredients in broiler diets and their effect on gut health. A total of 480 male broilers were randomly allotted to 8 dietary treatments with lower(3%-L) or higher(6%-H) dietary fiber content: two control groups(CL/CH), two A diets(AL/AH), two B diets(BL/BH), two S diets(SL/SH). Diet and fruit pomaces were chemically analyzed to assess polyphenol concentration and fibre fraction content. After the evaluation of growth performance, 6 birds/group were slaughtered at 35 days of age. Morphometric and histopathological investigations were performed on duodenum, jejunum and *** were collected to perform microbiota evaluation by 16 S DNA sequencing. Weight, viscosity, enzymatic activity, short chain fatty acid(SCFAs) and ammonia concentration were determined in ileum and/or ceca ***: A pomace and A diets showed the lowest polyphenol content and the highest content of soluble fibre fraction. No significant differences were observed for growth performance, gut morphometry and histopathology(P > 0.05). This study aims at assessing whether a significant within-year seasonality exists in the loan loss provisioning behavior of European listed banks observed in the period from 2004 to 2013. Since the accuracy of auditing processes and the level of disclosure requirements in financial reports differ among quarters, during the year, banks may have a leeway to underestimate and postpone the complete provisioning of loan losses in the less regulated and less audited quarters. We hypothesize that those differences are relevant factors which determine non-lower or significantly higher average levels of loan loss provisions in the half-yearly and especially in the annual financial reports than in the interim management statements disclosed in the first and the third quarters of the year. We also investigate the impact of the recent financial crisis and develop a special analysis for the ltalian banks＇ case. The empirical results support our hypotheses, suggesting that, in some cases, a convergence among quarterly levels of auditing processes and disclosure requirements may be needed. Our work contributes to the existing literature by providing additional evidences and considerations on the within-year seasonality in the loan loss provisioning behavior of European listed banks observed in the last decade.

Didanosine is an effective antiviral drug in untreated and antiretroviral therapy-experienced patients with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). An automated system using on-line solid extraction and High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) with ultraviolet (UV) detection was developed and validated for pharmacokinetic analysis of didanosine in dog plasma. Modifications were introduced on a previous methodology for simultaneous analysis of antiretroviral drugs in human plasma. Extraction was carried out on C18 cartridges, with high extraction yield as stationary phase, whereas mobile phase consisted of a mixture of 0.02 M potassium phosphate buffer, acetonitrile (KH2PO4: acetonitrile: 96:4, v/v) and 0.5% (w/v) of heptane sulphonic acid. The pH was adjusted to 6.5 with triethylamine. All samples and standard solutions were chromatographed at 28 1C. For an isocratic run, the fiux was 1.0 mL/min, detection was at 250 nm and injected volume was 20 mL. The method was selective and linear for concentrations between 50 and 5000 ng/mL. Drug stability data ranged from 96% to 98%, and limit of quantification was 25 ng/mL. Extraction yield was up to 95%. Drug stability in dog plasma was kept frozen at 20 1C for one month after three freeze–thaw cycles, and for 24 h after processing in the auto sampler. Assay was successfully applied to measure didanosine concentrations in plasma dogs.

In the last few years, a new nomenclature has been proposed for the disease induced by the ingestion of gluten, a protein present in wheat, rice, barley and oats. Besides celiac disease and wheat allergy, the most studied forms of gluten-related disorders characterized by an evident immune mechanism(autoimmune in celiac disease and Ig E-mediated in wheat allergy), a new entity has been included, apparently not driven by an aberrant immune response: the non-celiac gluten sensitivity(NCGS). NCGS is characterized by a heterogeneous clinical picture with intestinal and extraintestinal symptoms arising after gluten ingestion and rapidly improving after its withdrawal from the diet. The pathogenesis of NCGS is largely unknown, but a mixture of factors such as the stimulation of the innate immune system, the direct cytotoxic effects of gluten, and probably the synergy with other wheat molecules, are clues for the complicated puzzle. In addition, the diagnostic procedures still remain problematic due to the absence of efficient diagnostic markers; thus, diagnosis is based upon the symptomatic response to a gluten-free diet and the recurrence of symptoms after gluten reintroduction with the possibility of an important involvement of a placebo effect. The temporary withdrawal of gluten seems a reasonable therapy, but the timing of gluten reintroduction and the correct patient management approach are have not yet been determined.

Exocrine pancreatic neoplasms represent up to 95%of pancreatic cancers(PCs)and are widely recognized among the most lethal solid cancers,with a very poor 5-year survival rate of 5%-10%.The remaining<5%of PCs are neuroendocrine tumors that are usually characterized by a better prognosis,with a median overall survival of 3.6 *** most common type of PC is pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC),which accounts for roughly 85%of all exocrine *** up to 10%of exocrine PCs have rare histotypes,which are still poorly *** subtypes can be distinguished from PDAC in terms of pathology,imaging,clinical presentation and ***,due to their rarity,any knowledge regarding these specific histotypes is mostly based on case reports and a small series of retrospective ***,treatment strategies are generally deduced from those used for PDAC,even if these patients are often excluded or not clearly represented in clinical trials for *** these reasons,it is essential to collect as much information as possible on the management of PC,as assimilating it with PDAC may lead to the potential mistreatment of these ***,we report the most significant literature regarding the epidemiology,typical presentation,possible treatment strategies,and prognosis of the most relevant histotypes among rare PCs.

Liver ischemia-reperfusion injury(IRI) is an inherent feature of liver surgery and liver transplantation in which damage to a hypoxic organ(ischemia) is exacerbated following the return of oxygen delivery(reperfusion). IRI is a major cause of primary nonfunction after transplantation and may lead to graft rejection, regardless of immunological considerations. The immediate response involves the disruption of cellular mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation and the accumulation of metabolic intermediates during the ischemic period, and oxidative stress during blood flow restoration. Moreover, a complex cascade of inflammatory mediators is generated during reperfusion, contributing to the extension of the damage and finally to organ failure. A variety of pharmacological interventions(antioxidants, anticytokines, etc.) have been proposed to alleviate graft injury but their usefulness is limited by the local and specific action of the drugs and by their potential undesirable toxic effects. Polyethylene glycols(PEGs), which are non-toxic water-soluble compounds approved by the FDA, have been widely used as a vehicle or a base in food, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, and also as adjuvants for ameliorating drug pharmacokinetics. Some PEGs are also currently used as additives in organ preservation solutions prior to transplantation in order to limit the damage associated with cold ischemia reperfusion. More recently, the administration of PEGs of different molecular weights by intravenous injection has emerged as a new therapeutic tool to protect liver grafts from IRI. In this review, we summarize the current knowledge concerning the use of PEGs as a useful target for limiting liver IRI.
