The differentiation syndrome is an inflammatory reaction with increased capillary permeability that occurs in up to 25% of patients with acute promyelocytic leukemia treated with all-trans retinoic acid. A 50-year-old man with acute promyelocytic leukemia underwent chemotherapy with idarubicin and all-trans retinoic acid. On day +21 the patient developed pruritic prepatelar papules as well as several 10 mm subcutaneous nodules in both thighs accompanied by persistent fever. On the day +25 the patient presented with bilateral pulmonary crackles, infiltrates in the right lower lobe and severe hypotension which required dopamine infusion. Biopsy of one of the thighs nodules was performed. A Sweet syndrome associated to a differentiation syndrome was suspected. All-trans retinoic acid therapy was discontinued and dexamethasone was administered. In 48 h the patient showed remission of the fever and the infiltrates and the skin lesions acquired a residual aspect. It is debatable whether these two syndromes are distinct entities with common mechanisms or whether they are poles of the same spectrum. Dermatologists and hematologists must be aware of these two syndromes and its pathophysiologic association.

AIM To investigate the effect of probiotic supplementation during the development of an experimental model of colitis associated colon cancer(CAC). METHODS C57 BL/6 mice received an intraperitoneal injection of azoxymethane(10 mg/kg), followed by three cycles of sodium dextran sulphate diluted in water(5% w/v). Probiotic group received daily a mixture of Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacil us rhamnosus and Bifidobacterium bifidum. Microbiota composition was assessed by 16 Sr RNA Illumina Hi Seq sequencing. Colon samples were collected for histological analysis. Tumor cytokines was assessed by Real Time-PCR(Polymerase Chain Reaction); and serum cytokines by Multiplex assay. All tests were two-sided. The level of significance was set at P < 0.05. Graphs were generated and statistical analysis performed using the software Graph Pad Prism 5.0. The project was approved by the institutional review board committee. RESULTS At day 60 after azoxymethane injection, the mean number of tumours in the probiotic group was 40% lower than that in the control group, and the probiotic group exhibited tumours of smaller size(< 2 mm)(P < 0.05). There was no difference in richness and diversity between groups. However, there was a significant difference in beta diversity in the multidimensional scaling analysis. The abundance of the genera Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium, Allobaculum, Clostridium XI and Clostridium XVⅢ increased in the probiotic group(P < 0.05). The microbial change was accompanied by reduced colitis, demonstrated by a 46% reduction in the colon inflammatory index; reduced expression of the serum chemokines RANTES and Eotaxin; decreased p-IKK and TNF-α and increased IL-10 expression in the colon. CONCLUSION Our results suggest a potential chemopreventive effect of probiotic on CAC. Probiotic supplementation changes microbiota structure and regulates the inflammatory response, reducing colitis and preventing CAC.

This experiment aims to test the traits responsible for the increase in yield potential of winter wheat released in Henan Province, China. Seven established cultivars released in the last 20 years and three advanced lines were assayed. The results showed that grain yield was positively correlated with harvest index（HI）, kernel number per square meter, and aboveground biomass. In addition, the HI and aboveground biomass showed an increasing trend with the year of ***, we can conclude that bread wheat breeding advances during recent decades in Henan Province, China,have been achieved through an increase in HI, kernel number per square meter, and aboveground biomass. A higher d13C seems also to be involved in these advances, which suggests a progressive improvement in constitutive water use efficiency not associated with a trend towards lower stomatal conductance in the most recent genotypes. However, genetic advance Researchdoes not appear related to changes in photosynthesis rates on area basis when measured in the flag leaf or the spike,but only to a higher, whole‐spike photosynthesis. Results also indirectly support the concept that under potential yield conditions, the spike contributed more than the flag leaf to kernel formation.

AIM: To investigate the plasma levels of betatrophin in patients with ***: Forty patients diagnosed at the clinic with liver cirrhosis according to biological, ultrasonographic,or histological criteria were *** severity of cirrhosis was classified according to Pugh's modification of Child's classification and MELD score. Insulin resistance(IR) was assessed by the Homeostasis Model Assessment. A total of 20 patients showed a MELD score higher than 14. The control group consisted in 15 sex-and aged-matched *** blood samples were obtained for subsequent analysis. Serum insulin was determined by Liaison automated immune chemiluminiscence assay(DiaSorin S.p.A.) using a sandwich assay. The sensitivity of the assay was 0.2 μU/mL. The intra and interassay variation coefficients were < 4% and < 10%,respectively. The normal values were between 2 and17 μU/mL. Human active betatrophin was analyzed by specific quantitative sandwich ELISA(Aviscera Bioscience). The sensitivity of the assay was 0.4 ng/mL, and the intra and interassay reproducibility were< 6% and < 10%, ***: Plasma betatrophin levels were significantly increased in patients with cirrhosis compared with those in healthy subjects(P = 0.0001). Betatrophin levels were also associated with disease severity, being higher in Child-Pugh C patients compared to Child-Pugh B(P< 0.0005) and in patients who displayed a MELD score higher than 14 points compared to patients with lower punctuation(P = 0.01). In addition, we found a positive correlation between plasma betatrophin levels and the severity of cirrhosis according to Child-Pugh classification(r = 0.53; P < 0.01) or MELD score(r = 0.45; P <0.01). In the overall cohort, a moderate correlation between serum betatrophin and plasmatic bilirrubin(r= 0.39; P < 0.01) has been observed, as well as an inverse correlation between betatrophin and albumin(r =-0.41; P < 0.01) or prothrombin time(r =-0.44;P <0.01). The CaO-P_(2)O_(5)-SiO_(2)-MgO system presents several compounds used as biomaterials such as hydroxyapatite(HA),tricalcium phosphate(TCP)and TCP with magnesium substituting partial calcium(TCMP).Theβ-TCMP phase with whitlockite structure has interesting biological features and mechanical properties,meeting the requirements of a bioactive material for bone *** this work,the production of Mg-doped TCP,β-TCMP,has been investigated by crystallization from a glass composed of 52.75 wt%3CaO·P_(2)O_(5),30 wt%SiO_(2)and 17.25 wt%MgO(i.e.,31.7 mol%CaO,10.6 mol%P_(2)O_(5),26.6 mol%MgO and 31.1 mol%SiO_(2))using heat treatments between 775℃and 1100℃for up to 8 *** devitrification process of the glass has been accompanied by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC),high-resolution X-ray diffraction(HRXRD),relative density and bending strength *** characterization by HRXRD and DSC revealed the occurrence of whitlockite soon after the bulk glass preparation,a transient non-cataloged silicate between 800℃and 1100℃,and the formation of diopside in samples treated at 1100℃as crystalline *** overall crystalline fraction varied from 26%to 70%depending on the heat ***,contraction of the a-axis lattice parameter and expansion of the c-axis lattice parameter of the whitlockite structure have been observed during the heat treatments,which were attributed to theβ-TCMP formation with the partial substitution of Ca^(2+)by Mg^(2+).Relative densities near 99%and 97%for the glass and glass-ceramics respectively indicated a discrete reduction as a function of the devitrification *** strengths of 70 MPa and 120 MPa were determined for the glass and glass-ceramic material crystallized at 975℃for 4 h,respectively.

Arachis retusa Krapov. et W. C. Gregory et Valls is endemic in the West-central region of Brazil, occurring In areas endangered by human actions. The establishment of in vitro preservation methods for wild species of Arachis is an alternative to seed banks for germplasm storage, multiplication and distribution. The risk of genetic changes Induced by tissue culture and the monitoring of the genetic stability of the biological material before, during and after storage must be considered In the context of conservation. Random amplified polymorphlc ONA （RAPO） and amplified fragment length polymorphism （AFLP） fingerprinting were used to evaluate the genetic stability of in vitro plants originated from cotyledons and embryo axes of A. retusa. Cotyledons originated shoots through direct organogenesls and embryo axes displayed muItishoot formation Induced by 110 mmol/L and 8.8 mmol/L BAP, respectively. Ninety genomlc regions （loci） generated from RAPO and 372 from AFLP analyses were evaluated. All amplified fragments detected by both techniques in plants derived from the two explant types were monomorphic. The results Indicate that the recovered shoots are genetically stable at the assessed genomic regions.

We report on the unconventional optical properties exhibited by a two-dimensional array of thin Si nanowires arranged in a random fractal geometry and fabricated using an inexpensive,fast and maskless process compatible with Si *** structure allows for a high light-trapping efficiency across the entire visible range,attaining total reflectance values as low as 0.1%when the wavelength in the medium matches the length scale of maximum heterogeneity in the *** show that the random fractal structure of our nanowire array is responsible for a strong in-plane multiple scattering,which is related to the material refractive index fluctuations and leads to a greatly enhanced Raman scattering and a bright *** strong emissions are correlated on all length scales according to the refractive index *** relevance and the perspectives of the reported results are discussed as promising for Si-based photovoltaic and photonic applications.

Coupling together the ferroelectric,pyroelectric,and photovoltaic characteristics within a single material is a novel way to improve the performance of *** this work,we take advantage of the triple multifunctionality shown by 0.5Ba(Zr_(0.2)Ti_(0.8))O_(3)-0.5(Ba_(0.7)Ca_(0.3))TiO_(3)(BCZT),as demonstrated in an Al/Si/SiOx/BCZT/ITO thin-film *** Si/SiOx acts as an n-type layer to form a metal-ferroelectric-insulator-semiconductor heterostructure with the BCZT,and with Al and ITO as *** photo-response of the device,with excitation from a violet laser(405 nm wavelength),is carefully investigated,and it is shown that the photodetector performance is invariant with the chopper frequency owing to the pyro-phototronic effect,which corresponds to the coupling together of the pyroelectric and photovoltaic ***,the photodetector performance was significantly better than that of the devices operating based only on the pyro-phototronic effect by a factor of 4,due to the presence of ferroelectricity in the ***,after a poling voltage of−15 V,for a laser power density of 230mW/cm^(2)and at a chopper frequency of 400Hz,optimized responsivity,detectivity,and sensitivity values of 13.1mA/W,1.7×10^(10)Jones,and 26.9,respectively,are ***,ultrafast rise and fall times of 2.4 and 1.5μs,respectively,are obtained,which are 35,000 and 36,000 times faster rise and fall responses,respectively,than previous reports of devices with the ferro-pyro-phototronic *** is understood based on the much faster ferroelectric switching in ferroelectric thin films owing to the predominant 180°domains in a single direction out of plane.
