Assessment of Cancer-Related Fatigue Expression:Comparing the Expression of Fatigue in Patients with a History of Cancer,Patients with Other Chronic diseases,and Healthy Individuals

Aims:We aimed to compare cancer survivors’fatigue expression with that of the general population and examine psychobiological factors associated with ***:In this quantitative,transversal study,we analyzed clinical and sociodemographic indicators of 389 participants(68.38%females):148 cancer survivors on active treatment,55 disease-free survivors,75 patients with another chronic disease,and 111 healthy ***:Fatigue was expressed dissimilarly in patients with a previous history of cancer and participants without a history of *** on active treatment reported significantly higher levels of fatigue than the other clinical status ***,some level of cancer-related fatigue persisted,in a similar pattern,after active treatment into the survivorship ***-free survivors showed significantly lower vigor levels when compared to patients with other chronic *** distress and daytime sleepiness emerged as transdiagnostic factors associated with ***:Cancer-related fatigue may have a unique pattern,characterized by reduced endurance and muscle *** the present study,psychological distress and daytime sleepiness are associated with cancer-related *** findings suggest the pertinence of future studies examining whether interventions targeting those factors may help manage this burdensome complaint.

Lanthanide complexes with β-diketones and coumarin derivates:synthesis,thermal behaviour,optical and pharmacological properties and immobilisation

The paper presents the results of the synthesis of complexes of the ty pe Eu(dBM) 3 and Eu(dBM) 3·Q(dBM-dibenzoylmethane,Q-1,10-phenantroline or 4,7-d iphenyl-1,10-phenantroline) and of Tb-and Nd-complexes with the newly-synthesis ed coumarin derivates 3,3’-[(4-chlorphenyl) methylene) bis(4-hydroxy-2H-chromen-2-one) ,3,3’-[(3,5-dimethoxy-4-hydroxy) methylene) bis(4-hydroxy-2H-chromen-2-one) ,etc. Elemental and thermogravimetric analysis,IR,UV,NMR and fluorescence spe ctroscopy and X-ray analysis were applied for characterisation of the complexes. Some peculiarities of the synthetic procedures for both types of complexes were discussed and the influence of the synthetic approach,pH of the reaction mediu m,temperature of synthesis and drying of the complexes on the composition,stab ility and optical properties was reported. The immobilisation of the complexes i n thin films based on sol-gel produced SiO2 and on polymethylmethacrylate was st udied. The optimal conditions for preparation of the matrices(composition of th e starting system,temperature and time of sol aging,etc.) were recommended. Th e film morphology was evaluated by fluorescence,scanning electron and atomic fo rce microscopy. The interaction of the lanthanide ions with the matrices and the influence of their nature,the effect of the in-situ polymerisation and other f actors on photoluminescent excitation and emission spectra and excited state lif e-times of the complexes were followed. The effect of the second ligand on the p hotoluminescence properties of the immobilised diketonates was further elucidate d. Processes involved in the thermal decomposition of the complexes and microcom posites produced on their base were proposed. Preliminary results on the pharmac ological properties of the coumarin complexes reported showed unambiguously high er cytotoxicity of the Nd complex in comparison with that of the respective ligand.

Neo-adjuvant chemo(radio)therapy in gastric cancer: Current status and future perspectives

In the last 20 years, several clinical trials on neoadjuvant chemotherapy and chemo-radiotherapy as a therapeutic approach for locally advanced gastric cancer have been performed. Even if more data are necessary to define the roles of these approaches, the results of preoperative treatments in the combined treatment of gastric adenocarcinoma are encouraging because this approach has led to a higher rate of curative surgical resection. Owing to the results of most recent randomized phase III studies, neoadjuvant chemotherapy for locally advanced resectable gastric cancer has satisfied the determination of level I evidence. Remaining concerns pertain to the choice of the optimal therapy regimen, strict patient selection by accurate pre-operative staging, standardization of surgical procedures, and valid criteria for response evaluation. New well-designed trials will be necessary to find the best therapeutic approach in pre-operative settings and the best way to combine old-generation chemotherapeutic drugs with new-generation molecules.

This paper examines the influence of the thermal and lighting performance in classrooms on the cognitive productivity of students attending public schools in the principal three cities of Colombia:Bogota,Medellin and *** methodology used involves the application of cognitive performance tests and thermal and visual perception surveys,along with measurements of climatic parameters in 34 classrooms of 14 schools in 2017 and *** results were analyzed using transversal correlational *** the conclusions,this study found that the operative temperature turned out to be the most conclusive variable explaining cognitive performance relationships.

Increased virulence of the oral microbiome in oral squamous cell carcinoma revealed by metatranscriptome analyses

Oral squamous cell carcinoma(OSCC) is the most prevalent and most commonly studied oral cancer. However, there is a void regarding the role that the oral microbiome may play in OSCC. Although the relationship between microbial community composition and OSCC has been thoroughly investigated, microbial profiles of the human microbiome in cancer are understudied. Here we performed a small pilot study of community-wide metatranscriptome analysis to profile mRNA expression in the entire oral microbiome in OSCC to reveal molecular functions associated with this disease. Fusobacteria showed a statistically significantly higher number of transcripts at tumour sites and tumour-adjacent sites of cancer patients compared to the healthy controls analysed. Regardless of the community composition, specific metabolic signatures were consistently found in disease. Activities such as iron ion transport, tryptophanase activity, peptidase activities and superoxide dismutase were over-represented in tumour and tumour-adjacent samples when compared to the healthy controls. The expression of putative virulence factors in the oral communities associated with OSCC showed that activities related to capsule biosynthesis, flagellum synthesis and assembly, chemotaxis, iron transport, haemolysins and adhesins were upregulated at tumour sites. Moreover, activities associated with protection against reactive nitrogen intermediates, chemotaxis, flagellar and capsule biosynthesis were also upregulated in non-tumour sites of cancer patients. Although they are preliminary, our results further suggest that Fusobacteria may be the leading phylogenetic group responsible for the increase in expression of virulence factors in the oral microbiome of OSCC patients.

Contribution of the ear and the flag leaf to grainfilling in durum wheat inferred from the carbon isotope signature: Genotypic and growing conditions effects

The ear, together with the flag leaf, is believed to play a major role as a source of assimilates during grain filling in C3cereals. However, the intrusive nature of most of the available methodologies prevents reaching conclusive results in this regard. This study compares the carbon isotope composition（d13C） in its natural abundance in the water‐soluble fractions of the flag leaf blade and the ear with the d13C of mature kernels to assess the relative contribution of both organs to grain filling in durum wheat（Triticum turgidum L. ***）. The relative contribution of the ear was higher in landraces compared to modern cultivars, as well as in response to nitrogen fertilization and water stress. Such genotypic and environmentally driven differences were associated with changes in harvest index（HI）, with the relative contribution of the ear being negatively associated with HI. In the case of the genotypic differences, the lower relative contribution of the ear in modern cultivars compared with landraces is probably associated with the appearance in the former of a certain amount of source limitation driven by a higher HI. In fact, the relative contribution of the ear was far more responsive to changes in HI in modern cultivars compared with landraces.

Uncovering electron scattering mechanisms in NiFeCoCrMn derived concentrated solid solution and high entropy alloys

Whilst it has long been known that disorder profoundly affects transport properties,recent measurements on a series of solid solution 3d-transition metal alloys reveal two orders of magnitude variations in the residual *** ab initio methods,we demonstrate that,while the carrier density of all alloys is as high as in normal metals,the electron mean-free-path can vary from~10Å(strong scattering limit)to~103Å(weak scattering limit).Here,we delineate the underlying electron scattering mechanisms responsible for this disparate *** site-diagonal,spin dependent,potential scattering is always dominant,for alloys containing only Fe,Co,and Ni the majority-spin channel experiences negligible disorder scattering,thereby providing a short circuit,while for Cr/Mn containing alloys both spin channels experience strong disorder scattering due to an electron filling *** surprisingly,other scattering mechanisms-including displacement,or size effect,scattering which has been shown to strongly correlate with such diverse properties as yield strength—are found to be relatively weak in most cases.

Temperature effect on the sensitivity of the copepod Eucyclops serrulatus （Crustacea, Copepoda, Cyclopoida） to agricultural pollutants in the hyporheic zone

The sensitivity of freshwater invertebrates to agricultural pollutants is supposed to increase with rising temperature due to global warming. The aim of this study was to measure the effect of temperature on the lethal toxicity of ammonia-N, the herbicide Imazamox and the mixture of the two chemicals, in the adults and the juveniles of a population of the copepod Eucyc- lops serrulatus. This is a widely distributed species found in surface waters, in transitional habitats between surface water and groundwater, and in genuine groundwater environments. We tested the sensitivity by short-term bioassays （96 h） at 15℃ and 18℃, respectively. Our results highlighted the following：（1） increasing temperature affected the sensitivity of the adults to am- monia-N and of the juveniles to the mixture, all of which were more sensitive to its detrimental effects at 18~C; （2） the juvenile stages were more sensitive than the adults to all toxicants, and （3） for all combinations of chemicals and temperatures, the effects were synergistic and approximately one order of magnitude greater than those expected according to a concentration addition model when comparing the LC50 for each chemical in the mixture with the LC50s of chemicals individually assayed. Overall, in a context of global change, ammonia-N and mixtures of agricultural pollutants may affect the survival rate of species that spend a part or the whole life-cycle in the hyporheic habitat, with detrimental effects to biodiversity and ecosystem services provided by the hyporheic biota [Current Zoology 61 （4）： 629~540, 2015].
