The authors prepared,characterized and preliminary studied the properties of some neoteric solvents-ionic liquids based on choline chloride,i.e.,three ionic liquids based on the eutectics of choline chloride（2-hydroxyN,N,N-trimethylethanaminium chloride） with,respectively,urea,malonic acid and citric *** obtained mixtures were clear and colorless ionic liquids at room *** thermophysical properties,namely,density,viscosity,and electrical conductivity of these mixtures were investigated as a function of temperature within a range of 298-353 *** for the temperature dependence of the measured properties were generated and discussed in terms of Arrhenius *** the electrochemical windows of the eutectic liquids were determined.

Progress in the characterization of genes involved in the control of iron homeostasis in humans and in mice has improved the definition of iron overload and of the cells affected by it. The cell involved in iron overload with the greatest effect on immunity is the macrophage. Intriguing evidence has emerged, however, in the last 12 years indicating that parenchymal iron overload is linked to genes classically associated with the immune system. This review offers an update of the genes and proteins relevant to iron metabolism expressed in cells of the innate immune system, and addresses the question of how this system is affected in clinical situations of iron overload. The relationship between iron and the major cells of adaptive immunity, the T lymphocytes, will also be reviewed. Most studies addressing this last question in humans were performed in the clinical model of Hereditary Hemochromatosis. Data will also be reviewed demonstrating howthe disruption of molecules essentially involved in adaptive immune responses result in the spontaneous development of iron overload and how they act as modifiers of iron overload.

Unsaturated shallow soil deposits may be affected by either superficial soil erosion or shallow landslides in adjacent or overlapping source areas and in different seasons when a different soil suction *** triggering analysis of both these processes is a relevant issue for the hazard analysis while the literature mostly provides specific approaches for erosion or for *** paper proposes a largearea analysis for a case study of Southern Italy,consisting of unsaturated shallow deposits of loose pyroclastic(air-fall) volcanic soils that have been repeatedly affected by erosion and landslides in special *** a past catastrophic event, the simulated source areas of shallow landslides are smaller than those observed in the field while the simulated eroded areas with thickness greater than 5cm are comparable with the in-situ evidences, if the analysis takes into account high rainfall intensity and a spatially variable soil cover *** in general, the results of the paper are consistent with the previous literature and also provide a methodological contribution about the application of distinct tools over large *** added value is that the paper shows how the combination of distinct large-area analyses may help with understanding the dominant slope instability *** once this goal is fully achieved, can specific physically-based analyses be confidently performed at detailed scales and for smaller specific areas.

Several studies have characterized the cellular and molecular mechanisms of hepatocyte injury caused by the retention of hydrophobic bile acids （BAs） in cholestatic diseases. BAs may disrupt cell membranes through their detergent action on lipid components and can promote the generation of reactive oxygen species that, in turn, oxidatively modify lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids, and eventually cause hepatocyte necrosis and apoptosis. Several pathways are involved in triggering hepatocyte apoptosis. Toxic BAs can activate hepatocyte death receptors directly and induce oxidative damage, thereby causing mitochondrial dysfunction, and induce endoplasmic reticulum stress. When these compounds are taken up and accumulate inside biliary cells, they can also cause apoptosis. Regarding extrahepatic tissues, the accumulation of BAs in the systemic circulation may contribute to endothelial injury in the kidney and lungs. In gastrointestinal cells, BAs may behave as cancer promoters through an indirect mechanism involving oxidative stress and DNA damage, as well as acting as selection agents for apoptosis-resistant cells. The accumulation of BAs may have also deleterious effects on placental and fetal cells. However, other BAs, such as ursodeoxycholic acid, have been shown to modulate BA-induced injury in hepatocytes. The major beneficial effects of treatment with ursodeoxycholic acid are protection against cytotoxicity due to more toxic BAs; the stimulation of hepatobiliary secretion; antioxidant activity, due in part to an enhancement in glutathione levels; and the inhibition of liver cell apoptosis. The paper extends basic Einstein–Hilbert action by incorporating an invariant derived from a specific contraction between the Einstein tensor and energy momentum *** represents a non–minimal coupling between the space–time geometry and matter *** fundamental Einstein–Hilbert action is extended by considering a generic function f(R,GμνTμν).This function is subsequently dissected into its primary components:a geometric part reliant on the scalar curvature,and another segment encapsulating the interaction between geometry and matter *** cosmological models are formulated at the backdrop of these dynamics,rooted in specific associations between the matter energy-momentum tensor and Einstein *** deriving the consequent field equations,the cosmological model's physical implications are explored through a dynamical system analysis applied to diverse coupling *** exploration reveals that the current model aligns with various phases in the Universe's evolution,potentially elucidating several late-time historical epochs.

The research describes for the first time a possible case of pituitary gigantism in fossil mammals,precisely in *** pathology was detected in 2 long bones(tibia and metatarsus)belonging to an individual of an unusual large size found at the Bate cave(Rethymnon,Northern Crete).It formed the basis of Candiacervus major,the largest among the endemic deer species recorded in the Pleistocene-Early Holocene of *** and histomorphological examinations highlighted a reduction in cortical bone thickness and the presence of wide lacunae inside of the bone *** pathological conditions suggest a pituitary gigantism diagnosis also supported by some morphological evidence,such as the extremely elongated distal part of the metatarsal diaphysis,the proportionally small proximal epiphysis,and some bone *** diagnosis of a case of pituitary gigantism as presumed responsible for the extraordinary elongation of the tibia and the metatarsal bone is intriguing as they are,respectively,the paratype and the holotype of the *** species represents a case of a deviation from the“island rule”in Pleistocene large *** new evidence recommends a taxonomic and nomenclatural revision of this *** main outcomes of this research are as follows:(i)a case of pituitary gigantism is described for the first time in an extinct mammal;(ii)it is underlined that paleohistology may provide interesting clues for disentangling taxonomic and nomenclatural issues;(iii)one of the very few cases of gigantism in insular mammals is being questioned.

Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy （CIPN） is one of the most common and severe adverse effects related to cancer treatment. Unfortunately, although several agents and protocols have been proposed, no prophylactic strategies have yet to be proven useful. Therefore, new alternative therapies have been considered for CIPN prevention. Herbal medicine in Japan, called Kampo medicine, is derived from traditional Chinese medicine. Goshajinkigan （GJG） is a Kampo medicine, that is comprised of ten herbs. The aim of this work is to analyse the results of pre-clinical and clinical studies on the potential applications of GJG in CIPN prevention.

A variety of methods have been developed to use bovid postcranial elements in the functional morphology approach to paleohabitat *** study represents a first attempt at testing morphometric methods based on astragalus and phalanges on extant mountain-dwelling bovids and insular fossil bovids from Sardinia assigned to the so-called‘Nesogoral group’,already regarded as close to the Caprini *** intended to answer the questions whether a classic four-habitats model could be successfully applied to extant mountain-dwelling bovids,and whether results obtained could support the hypothesis of a radiative evolution for the Sardinian *** obtained,on the one hand,highlighted some inadequacies of the method if not applied to African bovids;on the other hand,they stressed the difficulties of discriminating habitat preferences of Sardinian taxa only based on biometry of astragalus and ***,statistical habitat predictions suggest the contemporaneous presence in Sardinia of bovids having about the same size,but inhabiting different environments,giving support to the hypothesis that Sardinian representatives of the genus Nesogoral originated from a still unknown ancestor by an adaptive radiation evolutionary process.
