In the last 30 years,the scientific community has developed and proposed different models and numerical approaches for the study of vibrations induced by railway *** of them are formulated in the frequency/wave number domain and with a 2.5D ***-dimensional numerical models formulated in the time/space domain are less frequently used,mainly due to their high computational ***,these models present very attractive characteristics,such as the possibility of considering nonlinear behaviors or the modelling of excess pore pressure and non-homogeneous and non-periodic geometries in the longitudinal direction of the *** this study,two 3D numerical approaches formulated in the time/space domain are compared and experimentally *** first one consists of a finite element approach and the second one of a finite difference *** experimental validation in an actual case situated in Carregado(Portugal)shows an acceptable fitting between the numerical results and the actual measurements for both ***,there are some differences among *** study therefore includes some recommendations for their use in practical soil dynamics and geotechnical engineering.

Objective:To determine an algorithm for molecular diagnosis of visceral leishmaniasis(VL)by kinetoplast DNA(kDNA)(RV1/RV2)and internal transcriber spacer(ITs1)(LITsR/L5.8 s)polymerase chain reaction(PCR),complemented by ITs 1 PCR restriction fragment length polymorphism(RFLP),using peripheral blood or bone marrow aspirate from patients with suspected ***:Biological samples were submitted to the gold standard for the diagnosis of VL and molecular diagnosis represented by ITs 1 PCR,kDNA PCR,and ITs 1 PCR *** samples were obtained from seven groups:groupⅠ,82 samples from patients with confirmed VL;groupⅡ,16 samples from patients under treatment for VL;groupⅢ,14 samples from dogs with canine visceral leishmaniasis(CVL);groupⅣ,a pool of six experimentally infected sandflies(Lutzomya longipalpis);group V,18 samples from patients with confirmed tegumentary leishmaniasis(TL)and groupsⅥandⅦwere from control groups without ***:The following gold standard and molecular examination results were obtained for each of the seven groups:groupⅠ:parasitologic and immunochromatographic tests showed a sensitivity of 76.3%(61 of 80)and 68.8%(55 of 80),respectively,and a sensitivity of 97.6%(80 of 82)and 92.7%(76 of 82)by ITs1 and kDNA PCR,*** ITs1 PCR RFLP(HaeⅢ)analysis of the 80 positive samples,52.5%(42 of 80)generated three fragments of 180,70,and 50 bp,corresponding to the pattern of Leishmania infantum infantum;groupⅡ:negative for the parasitologic methods and positive for IrK39(100%,16 of 16),presented 12.5%(2 of 16)of positivity by ITs 1 PCR and 25.0%(4 of 16)by kDNA PCR;groupⅢ:positive in the parasitologic and serologic tests(100%,14 of 14),presented 85.7%(12 of 14)of positivity by ITs1 PCR and kDNA ***1 PCR RFLP showed that 83.3%(10 of 12)of the canine samples contained parasites with profiles similar to ***;groupⅣpresented amplifications by ITs1 PCR and kDNA ***1 PCR products were analyzed by RFLP,generating a profile similar to

AIM： To simulate and compare accommodation in accommodative and non-accommodative human eye ***： Ray tracing and optical design program was used. Three eye models were designed and studied： the Navarro, the Arizona and the Liou-Brennan. In order to make the Navarro and Liou-Brennan models to accommodate, specific geometric parameters of the models were altered with values that were chosen from the literature. For the Arizona model, its’ mathematical functions for accommodation were used for the same accommodative demands. The simulation included four distances of accommodation for each model： at infinity, 3, 1 and 0.5 *** results were diffraction images of a “letter F” for graphical comparison, spot diagrams on the retinal field and Modulation Transfer Function （MTF） ***：Zernike coefficients for the aberrations, Airy disk diameter, root mean square （RMs） error diameter and total axial length of the model were provided from the program. These were compared between them in all distances. The Navarro model had the smallest axial length change as a simple model. The Arizona did not change its axial length because it is designed to be accommodative. The Liou-Brennan model had different results concerning the aberrations because of the decentration of the pupil. The MTF graphs showed small differences between the models because of the differences in their ***： All the three models are able to simulate accommodation with the expected results. There is no model that can be assumed as the best choice. Accommodation can be simulated in non-accommodativemodels and in customized ones.

Didanosine is an effective antiviral drug in untreated and antiretroviral therapy-experienced patients with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). An automated system using on-line solid extraction and High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) with ultraviolet (UV) detection was developed and validated for pharmacokinetic analysis of didanosine in dog plasma. Modifications were introduced on a previous methodology for simultaneous analysis of antiretroviral drugs in human plasma. Extraction was carried out on C18 cartridges, with high extraction yield as stationary phase, whereas mobile phase consisted of a mixture of 0.02 M potassium phosphate buffer, acetonitrile (KH2PO4: acetonitrile: 96:4, v/v) and 0.5% (w/v) of heptane sulphonic acid. The pH was adjusted to 6.5 with triethylamine. All samples and standard solutions were chromatographed at 28 1C. For an isocratic run, the fiux was 1.0 mL/min, detection was at 250 nm and injected volume was 20 mL. The method was selective and linear for concentrations between 50 and 5000 ng/mL. Drug stability data ranged from 96% to 98%, and limit of quantification was 25 ng/mL. Extraction yield was up to 95%. Drug stability in dog plasma was kept frozen at 20 1C for one month after three freeze–thaw cycles, and for 24 h after processing in the auto sampler. Assay was successfully applied to measure didanosine concentrations in plasma dogs.

Currently, there are significant investments in the study of distributed generation, including solar energy by the photovoltaic conversion method. Basically, a cell directly converts solar energy to electricity. For this, static converters are required. However, relevant issues arise in this process: point of maximum efficiency of module generation, strategy of control of the flow of energy to the network. The aim of this work is to monitor the main variables of a photovoltaic system, specifically the voltage and current module and their derivates. The goal is to implement the maximum power tracking technique using Fuzzy logic. In addition, the energy provided by the cell will be employed in an inverter stage that can operate as an active filter, voltage regulator, or generator of reactive and active power. The feasibility of using Fuzzy logic will also be studied. The first stage of this work involves parameterization and simulation of photovoltaic modules. The initial study examines the compatibility of a commercial module and its catalog data with the results of simulation. The simulated I-V characteristics show almost identical results to the catalog data. In sequence, a boost or lift DC-DC converter is employed to emulate variable load for maximum power transfer.

Background: Colles’ fracture is a type of fracture of the distal third of the radius and its most common cause is falling from patient’s own height and, epidemiologically, it is more common in the elderly. Objectives: The main objective of this study is to analyze the epidemiology of Colles’ fracture retrospectively, in patients admitted to Fernandes Távora Hospital. Materials and Methods: This retrospective study conducted at the Fernandes Távora Hospital used 1030 radiographic images of patients with wrist fractures. Results: (After a careful analysis) It was found that this type of fracture occurred with a greater frequency in age groups of 50 to 69, 60 to 69, and 40 to 49 years old, which corresponds to 59.5% of patients and the most affected sex were females (51.1%). Conclusion: The study concluded that this type of bone injury is more common in people aged 40 to 69 years old, especially in women, because of their geometry and bone composition. It is evident that Colles’ fracture impacts the life of the affected person, therefore, an adequate diagnosis and treatment having utmost importance.
