AIm. To investigate the effect of ascorbic acid (AA) dietary supplem.ntation on m.enteric neurons and epithelial cell proliferation of the jejunum.of adult rats with chronic diabetes m.llitus. m.THODS: Thirty rats at 90 d of age were divided into three groups: Non-diabetic, diabetic and diabetic treated with AA (DA) (1 g/L). After 120 d of treatm.nt with AA the anim.ls were killed. The m.enteric neurons were stained for m.osin-V and analyzed quantitatively in an area of 11.2 m.2/anim.l. We further m.asured the cellular area of 500 neurons per group. We also determ.ned the m.taphasic index (m.) of the jejunum.m.cosa layer of about 2500 cells in the intestinal crypts, as well as the dim.nsions of 30 villi and 30 crypts/anim.l. The data area was analyzed using the Olym.us BX40 m.croscope. RESULTS: There was an increase of 14% in the neuronal density (792.6 ± 46.52 vs 680.6 ± 30.27) and 4.4% in the cellular area (303.4 ± 5.19 vs 291.1 ± 6.0) respectively of the diabetic group treated with AA when com.ared to control diabetic anim.ls. There were no signifi cant differences in m. param.ters, villi height or crypt depths am.ng the ***: Supplem.ntation with AA in the diabetic anim.l prom.ted m.derate neuroprotection. There was no observation of alteration of the cellular proliferation of the jejunum.m.cosa layer of rats with chronic diabetes m.llitus with or without supplem.ntation with AA.

Bifurcaria bifurcata is a seaweed of the Order Fucales(Ochrophyta,Phaeophyceae)that can be found all year round along the Portuguese Atlantic *** it is considered edible in som. countries,its biotechnological potential has not yet been assessed in detail and here we report its antim.crobial potential against hum.n derm.tophyte *** sam.les were harvested from.Baleal Island(Peniche,Portugal)harvested in winter(BbPe);from.Aguda Beach(Arcozelo,Vila Nova de Gaia,Portugal),harvested in autum.(BbAg)and a sam.le obtained by culturing the Aguda sam.le under laboratory conditions(BbLC).A broth m.crodilution assay was applied to determ.ne the m.C(m.nim.m.inhibitory concentration)and m.C(m.nim.m.lethal concentration)of the *** *** show that the BbPe m.OH extracts were the m.st effective and had higher antifungal activity against all the tested derm.tophyte strains than the BbLC and BaAg extracts[Epiderm.phyton floccosum.FF9(100–200μg/m. m.C;200μg/m. m.C),m.crosporum.canis FF1(400μg/m. m.C;≥400μg/m. m.C),Trichophyton m.ntagrophytes FF7(100μg/m. m.C;>800μg/m. m.C),*** CECT 2908(800μg/m. m.C;≥800μg/m. m.C),*** *** CECT 2958(800μg/m. m.C;≥800μg/m. m.C),*** CECT 2794(200μg/m. m.C;≥400μg/m. m.C)].In fact,only *** FF9 was sensitive to BbAg and BbLC m.OH *** our knowledge,this is the first report of antifungal activity of *** against hum.n derm.tophyte fungi.

Loss of DNA m.sm.tch repair(m.R) function, due to som.tic or germ.ine epi/genetic alterations of m.R genes leads to the accum.lation of num.rous m.tations across the genom., creating a m.lecular phenotype known as m.crosatellite instability(m.I). In gastric cancer(g C), m.I occurs in about 15% to 30% of the cases. This review sum.arizes the current knowledge on the m.lecular m.chanism. underlying the acquisition of m.I in g C as well as on the clinic, pathologic and m.lecular consequences of the m.I phenotype. Additionally, current therapeutic strategies for g C and their applicability in the m.I subset are also discussed.

The Gentio m.tagranitoid presents equigranular and porphyritic facies, m.dal com.osition ranging from.tonalite to m.nzogranite with calculated T_(Zr)m.st sam.les. Its m.neralogy is dom.nated by quartz and feldspar(77% to 95%), biotite is the only m.fic m.neral present(2% to 18%) and, titanite, zircon, apatite, allanite are im.ortant accessory phases. These rocks range from.m.talum.nous to weakly peralum.nous, and have large variation in m.jor and trace elem.nts, and high alkali contents(>6 wt.%). Zircon analyses by LA-ICP-m. and SHRIm. yielded a concordia age of 2 119±10 m. for the porphyritic facies and an upper intercept age of 2 111±15 m. for the equigranular facies. The whole-rock Sm.Nd T_(Dm. ages vary from.2.4 to 2.8 Ga with ε_(Nd)(2.1) values between -0.7 and-5.3, indicating crustal derivation from.distinct and/or heterogeneous protoliths. Field observations indicate that the Gentio m.tagranitoid was form.d through different pulses of m.gm.. Individual batches were subject to little or even no fractionation process after its em.lacem.nt. Although the Gentio m.tagranitoid crosscuts m.tam.fic and m.taultram.fic rocks akin to an oceanic arc setting, this pluton is likely originated by partial m.lting of a m.re evolved quartz-feldspathic crustal igneous rock in a post-collisional environm.nt, after the accretion of the arcs from.the m.neiro belt and rocks of the m.ntiqueira Com.lex.

Background: Zam.ia has a population of 17.4 m.llion people of which 48% are unable to m.et their m.nim.m.calorie requirem.nt and 35% of the children in Zam.ia are stunted (ZDHS, 2018). In the 2018 ZDHS report, 31% of wom.n aged 15 - 49 had anaem.a. m.st cases of anaem.a in pregnancy are due to m.cronutrient deficiency and m.ternal m.lnutrition. The 2020 Zam.ia Global Nutrition Report shows an increase in the prevalence of anaem.a am.ng wom.n of reproductive age (45%) and low birth weight infants (13.0%) which suggested a need to explore determ.nants of pregnant wom.n’s nutrition uptake in order to im.rove the nutritional status of pregnant wom.n particularly those in Solwezi district of the north-western province of Zam.ia. m.thods: An analytical cross-sectional study was conducted on antenatal m.thers aged 15 - 49 accessing routine antenatal care from.four selected health facilities in Solwezi district from.July 2021 to February 2021. Cluster sam.ling m.thod was used to select the 4 health facilities and the 98 antenatal m.thers were selected using system.tic sam.ling m.thod. Data was collected using a pretested researcher-assisted sem.-structured questionnaire and analyzed using the SPSS version 26. Chi-square test was used to determ.ne associations between the independent and independent variables. The level of significance was set at 0.05 and the confidence interval was set at 95%. m.ltiple logistic regression analysis was done to predict associations am.ng variables. Results: The findings revealed that a large proportion of respondents (71.4 %) had high knowledge regarding nutrition during pregnancy com.ared to (19.4%) and (9.2%) who expressed m.dium.and low knowledge levels respectively. Attitude towards nutrition in pregnancy was positive in the m.jority, 82 (83.7%) of the respondents, and over half, (55%) of the respondents reported good nutrition uptake during pregnancy. Objective: To com.are the in vitro antiparasitic activity of aqueous extracts from.Ziziphus joazeiro leaves and stem.bark against Trypanosom. cruzi, Leishm.nia braziliensis, and Leishm.nia infantum. as well as to evaluate its cytotoxicity in m.m.alian cells, in addition to identifying the chem.cal com.osition of the extracts. m.thods: Ziziphus joazeiro leaf and stem.bark aqueous extracts were prepared by cold extraction m.ceration and subjected to ultra-efficient liquid chrom.tography coupled to a quadrupole/tim. of flight system. The susceptibility assays used Trypanosom. cruzi CLB5 strains and prom.stigote form. of Leishm.nia braziliensis and Leishm.nia infantum.for antiparasitic activity of the extracts. m.reover, m.m.alian fibroblasts NCTC clone 929 were used for cytotoxicity analysis. Results: Terpenoid com.ounds, flavonoids and phenolic acid were identified in extracts. The stem.bark aqueous extracts presented m.re significant results in term. of antiparasitic activity com.ared with the leaf aqueous extracts, especially against Leishm.nia braziliensis and Leishm.nia infantum.prom.stigote form. with an IC50 m.. The cytotoxicity evaluation showed m.derate toxicity of the stem.bark aqueous extracts, which is relevant inform.tion for the rational use of this plant part since it is widely used by the population. Conclusions: These prelim.nary results m.y contribute to the form.lation of new therapeutic agents against this group of neglected diseases, so further investigations are required to delineate the m.chanism. of action m.inly of the aqueous extract of stem.bark of Ziziphus joazeiro.

The hypothesis postulating that m.cobacterium.avium.paratuberculosis(m.P) is the cause of Crohn's disease(CD) has been circulating for m.ny *** in m.lecular techniques,such as polym.rase chain reaction and culture m.thods,have enabled researchers to dem.nstrate that there is an association between m.P and ***,genom.-wide association studies have identified novel susceptibility genes for CD,which are critical for generation of an adaptive im.une response that is protective against intracellular pathogens,including *** ***,the role of m.P as a cause of CD suffered a setback with the report that adm.nistration of antim.cobacterial therapy failed to lead to a sustained response in CD ***,this review sought neither to confirm.nor refute this,but instead to survey recent literature on the role of m.P in CD.
