A 1-year-old male meerkat was found dead by the *** animal was clinically healthy and was regularly vaccinated for distemper *** revealed multifocal to confluent dry white areas in the myocardium,pneumonia and congestive *** the other organs,including gross vessels,were macroscopically *** heart showed histologically large,multifocal to confluent areas of mineralization of the myocardium and the wall of small coronary *** calcifications were also observed in the hepatic portal tracts and kidneys arteries of small/medium *** arterial lumen appeared narrowed and the wall thickened due to the calcification of the tunica *** veterinary medicine,arterial mineralization is regarded as a metastatic calcification,as the result of hypercalcemia and/or ***,today,the pathogenesis of medial artery calcification in humans seems to be the results of an active process resembling embryonic osteogenesis,rather than a mere passive process.

At the late stage of transitional boundary layers, the nonlinear evolution of the ring-like vortices and spike structures and their effects on the surrounding flow were studied by means of direct numerical simulation with high order accuracy. A spatial transition of the flat-plate boundary layers in the compressible flow was conducted. Detailed numerical results with high resolution clearly represented the typical vortex structures, such as ring-like vortices and so on, and induced ejection and sweep events. It was verified that the formation of spike structures in transitional boundary layers had close relationship with ring-like vortices. Especially, compared to the newly observed positive spike structure in the experiments, the same structure was found in the present numerical simulations, and the mechanism was also studied and analyzed.

Bioplastics were first introduced as environmentally friendly materials,with properties similar to those of conventional plastics.A bioplastic is defined as biodegradable if it can be decomposed into carbon dioxide under aerobic degradation,or methane and CO_(2)under anaerobic conditions,inorganic compounds,and new cellular biomass,by the action of naturally occurring *** definition however does not provide any information on the environmental conditions,timescale and extent at which decomposition processes should *** regard to the aquatic environment,recognized standards have been established to assess the ability of plastics to undergo biodegradation;however,these standards fail to provide clear targets to be met to allow labelling of a bioplastic as ***,these standards grant the user an extensive leeway in the choice of process *** these reasons,the comparison of results deriving from different studies is *** authors analysed and discussed the degree of biodegradability of a series of biodegradable bioplastics in aquatic environments(both fresh and salt water)using the results obtained in the laboratory and from on-site testing in the context of different research *** Oxygen Demand(BOD),CO_(2)evolution,surface erosion and weight loss were the main parameters used by researchers to describe the percentage of *** results showed a large variability both in weight loss and BOD,even when evaluating the same type of *** confirms the need for a reference range of values to be established with regard to parameters applied in defining the biodegradability of bioplastics.

Purpose of this study was to compare different Machine Learning classifiers (C4.5, Support Vector Machine, Naive Bayes, K-NN) in the early prediction of outcome of the subjects in vegetative state due to traumatic brain injury. Accuracy proved acceptable for all compared methods (AUC > 0.8), but sensitivity and specificity varied considerably and only some classifiers (in particular, Support Vector Machine) appear applicable models in the clinical routine. A combined use of classifiers is advisable.

Effect of Milling and Parboiling Processes on Arsenic Species Distribution in Rice Grains

This study identified the role of milling and parboiling on arsenic(As)content and its species in large numbers of rice *** As contents were 108±33μg/kg in polished rice grains(PR),159±46μg/kg in unpolished rice grains(UR),145±42μg/kg in parboiled polished rice grains(PPR)and 145±44μg/kg in parboiled unpolished rice grains(PUR).The percentages of inorganic As(iAs)were 66%±8%in PR and from 72%to 77%in other grain *** polishing process reduced the As content in the rice grains,removing outer part of the UR with high amount of As,whereas the parboiling technique transferred the semimetal content within the *** As and iAs contents were not significantly different in UR,PPR and PUR,homogenizing its distribution inside the *** results allowed to understand how different operations affect As fate and its chemical forms in grains.

Over the last few decades, a diverse and expanded practice has emerged from the increasingly collaborative work developed among architects, urbanists, artists, and media designers. This collaboration has more and more developed a particular landscape of projects which share the same operative principles and modes of operation. The city at large has been the context where these projects have been implemented and developed with the will of bringing these types of experimentation to the people and to the public and social scale. Cities are continuously produced through entropic processes that mediate between complexity and immediacy. Information technology operates as a linkage able to set up new rules for communication between man and matter. In this framework, by looking at spatial interventions in the urban space, the aim of the paper is to dissect the modes in which spatial practitioners operate in the digital city through ＂Urban Machines＂ and how information technology becomes a tool for place-making. The paper looks at integrated systems or machines that have spatial, social, and environmental implication in how we experience the city. Machines imply ＂something that has been constructed＂ and ＂function with a specific purpose＂ while being composed by parts that respond to a ＂functioning whole＂. These interventions start from sharing the same principle： How do we generate through technologically mediated experiences opportunities for new types of production of（social）space？; How such systems shape our urban experience and deploy forms of participation in civic life？.

The female reproductive system consists of the ovaries,the female gonads,and the reproductive tract organs of the fallopian tubes,uterus,cervix,and *** functions to provide hormonal support and anatomical structure for the production of new offspring.A number of endogenous and exogenous factors can impact female reproductive health and fertility,including genetic vulnerability,medications,environmental exposures,age,nutrition,and *** date,due to the ethical concerns of using human subjects in biomedical research,the majority of studies use in vivo animal models and 2D cell/tissue culture models to study female ***,the complexity and species difference of the female reproductive system in humans make it difficult to compare to those of ***,the monolayered cells cultured on flat plastics or glass lose their 3D architecture as well as the physical and/or biochemical contacts with other cells in ***,all reproductive organs do not work alone but interconnect with each other and also with non-reproductive organs to support female reproductive,endocrine,and systemic *** facts suggest that there is an urgent and unmet need to develop representative,effective,and efficient in vitro models for studying human female *** prodigious advancements of bioengineering(e.g.,biomaterials,3D printing,and organ-on-a-chip)allow us to study female reproduction in an entirely new ***,we review recent advances that use bioengineering methods to study female reproduction,including the bioengineering models of the ovary,fallopian tube,uterus,embryo implantation,placenta,and reproductive disease.
