Objective:To evaluate in ritro antimicrobial activities of selected 58 ethno-medicinal plant extracts with a view to assess their therapeutic ***:A total of 58 traditional Chinese medicinal plants were carefully selected based on the literature review and their traditional *** antimicrobial activities of ethanol extracts of these medicinal plants were tested against fungi(Aspergillus funigaius),yeast(Candida albicans),gram-negative(Acirelobacter haumannii and Pseudornnruis aeruginosa)and gram-positive bacteria(Staphglococcus aureus).The activities were tested at three different concentrations of 1.00,0.10 and 0.01 mg/*** data was analysed using Gene data Screener ***:The measured antimicrobial activities indicated that out of the 58 plant extracts,15 extracts showed anti-fungal activity and 23 extracts exhibited anti-bacterial *** plant extracts have exhibited both anti-bacterial and anti-fungal *** instance,Eucommia ulmoides,Pohgonum cuspidcrtum,Poria cocas and Uncaria rhineophylla showed activity against both bacterial and fungal strains,indicating their broad spectrum of ***:The results revealed that the ethanol extracts of 30 plants out of the selected 58 possess significant antimicrobial *** is interesting to note that the findings from the current study are consistent with the traditional use.A clear correlation has also been found between the antimicrobial activity and the flavonoid content of the plant extracts which is in agreement with the *** results presented here can be used to guide the selection of potential plant species for the isolation and structure elucidation of novel antimicrobial compounds in order to establish the structure-activity *** in turn is expected to lead the way to the discovery of novel antimicrobial agents for therapeutic use.

Ultramafic(dunite-clinopyroxenite) complexes with platinum mineralization are common in different tectonic settings. Among them are zoned complexes of the Ural-Alaskan type, zoned complexes of platforms(Konder massif, Siberia), as well as layered intrusion complexes(Gulin massif, Siberia). In determining the genesis of these formations, an important role belongs to the study of melt inclusions and rock-forming minerals, including clinopyroxene. Clinopyroxenes of the ultramafic complexes exhibit a general trend of evolution, expressed as a decrease in magnesium content(Mg# = 0.95 to 0.7) and an increase in the contents of titanium and aluminum oxide(0–4.5% and 0.5–7.0%, respectively) in the dunite-clinopyroxenite series. In the coordinates of Ti-AL(IV) the clinopyroxenes of the Ural-Alaskan complexes of the Platinum belt form a linear trend of compositions with a slight increase(0–0.03 f.u.) in the titanium contents. In comparison with them the clinopyroxenes of the zoned platform complexes(Konder massif) demonstrate a shift in the trend of compositions, due to an increase in the titanium content to the moderate(0.05 f.u.) values. For the layered intrusions(Gulin pluton), it is typical another trend of clinopyroxene compositions with significantly higher titanium contents(0.04–0.12 f.u.) at the similar level of aluminum. Clinopyroxene compositions of zoned complexes of the Platinum belt are "controlled" by the area of boninites and tholeites of island arcs, and the zoned complexes of platforms by the areas of island arc tholeites and sub-alkaline intraplate basalts. Clinopyroxenes of the layered intrusions are located in the field of compositions of alkaline intraplate or MORB basalts. During our studies on separation of rare earth complexes with aminopolycarboxylic acids on anion-exchangers, it is found that the affinity series of these elements with IMDA (Ln 3+ ∶IMDA=1∶2) for the anion-exchanger Dowex 1 in the acetate and IMDA forms is non-typical: Dy 3+ > Ho 3+ > Gd 3+ >Eu 3+ >Er 3+ >Y 3+ >Sm 3+ >Tm 3+ >Nd 3+ >Pr 3+ >>la 3+ . In the affinity series la 3+ is characterised as the lowest affinity in comparison with other rare earth elements, which indicates possibility of purification of la 3+ from all remaining lanthanides as well as Pr 3+ in the macro-micro systems by the frontal analysis technique. In the investigations strongly basic gel anion-exchangers Dowex 1×8 (type 1) and Dowex 2×8 (type 2) and strongly basic and weakly basic macroporous anion-exchangers Dowex MSA-1 and Dowex MWA 1 were used. Macroporous ion-exchangers have a sponge-like matrix which contains pores larger than molecules in size and the exchange of large ions is faster. The studies indicate that both the gel and macroporous anion-exchangers are useful for purification of la 3+ from Pr 3+ complexes with iminodiacetic acid.

Acoustic scattering cross sections of smart furtive obstacles are studied and discussed.A smart furtive obstacle is an obstacle that,when hit by an incoming field,avoids detection through the use of a pressure current acting on its boundary.A highly parallelizable algorithm for computing the acoustic scattering cross section of smart obstacles is *** a case study,this algorithm is applied to the(acoustic)scattering cross section of a"smart"(furtive)simplified version of the NASA space shuttle when hit by incoming time-harmonic plane waves,the wavelengths of which are small compared to the characteristic dimensions of the *** solution to this numerically challenging scattering problem requires the solution of systems of linear equations with many unknowns and *** to the sparsity of these systems of equations,they can be stored and solved using affordable computing resources.A cross section analysis of the simplified NASA space shuttle highlights three findings:i)the smart furtive obstacle reduces the magnitude of its cross section compared to the cross section of a corresponding"passive"obstacle;ii)several wave propagation directions fail to satisfactorily respond to the smart strategy of the obstacle;iii)satisfactory furtive effects along all directions may only be obtained by using a pressure current of considerable *** experiments and virtual reality applications can be found at the website:http://***/ceri/zirilli/w7.

In this article,we provide an impact evaluation of an intervention in Peru regarding preparedness for El Nino impacts in Picsi District of Chiclayo Province in Peru’s northwestern coastal lambayeque *** effort involved the provision of special kits that reduce the potential damage to homes as a consequence of rainfall and floods associated with an El Nino-Southern Oscillation *** was collected in 2016 when this Forecast-based Financing early action was activated by an El Nino forecast,and after a coastal El Nino actually struck in *** dual database permits us to estimate the impact of the intervention on the damage level of homes by comparing those homes supported by the program with those homes not receiving pilot-program *** comparison is achieved by using propensity score matching techniques,which identify the most comparable homes to the ones that were supported by the *** main findings of the study suggest a positive impact of the program in terms of its effectiveness in mitigating the damage caused by the 2017 El Ni?*** results suggest a drop in the scale of house damage(less damage)by around 63%for a home that received the modular kit *** considering other specifications of the model,the decrease in the scale of house damage improves up to approximately 66%.

With the growing interest in the applications of gold nanoparticles in biotechnology and their physiological effects, possible toxicity of gold nanoparticles is becoming an increasingly important issue. A large number of studies carried out over the past few years under a variety of experimental conditions and following different protocols have produced conflicting results, leading to divergent views about the actual safety of gold nanoparticles in human applications. This work is intended to provide an overview of the most recent experimental results and thereby summarize current state-of-the-art. rather than presenting a comprehensive review of the available literature in this field, which would be impractically broad, we have selected representative examples of both in vivo and in vitro studies, which clearly demonstrate the need for urgent and rigorous standardization of experimental protocols. Despite their significant potential, the safety of gold nanoparticles is highly controversial at this time, and important concerns have been raised that need to be properly addressed. Factors such as shape, size, surface charge, coating, and surface functionalization are expected to influence the interactions of particles with biological systems to a different extent, resulting in different outcomes and influencing the potential of gold nanoparticles for biomedical applications. Moreover, despite continuous attempts to establish a correlation between structure of the particles and their interactions with biological systems, we are still far from elucidating the toxicological profile of gold nanoparticles in an indisputable manner. This review is intended to contribute towards this goal, offering a number of suggestions on how to achieve the systematization of data on the most relevant physico-chemical parameters, which govern and control the toxicity of ~old nanot^articles at cellular and whole-organism levels.

Hepatocellular carcinoma （HCC） is a heterogeneous disease with a poor prognosis and limited markers for predicting patient survival. Because chemokines and chemokine receptors play numerous and integral roles in HCC disease progression, the CXCR4-CXCL12-CXCR7 axis was studied in HCC patients. CXCR4 and CXCR7 expression was analyzed by immunohistochemistry in 86 HCC patients （training cohort） and validated in 42 unrelated HCC patients （validation cohort）. CXCR4 levels were low in 22.1% of patients, intermediate in 30.2%, and high in 47.7%, whereas CXCR7 levels were low in 9.3% of patients, intermediate in 44.2% and high in 46.5% of the patients in the training cohort. When correlated to patient outcome, only CXCR4 affected overall survival （P=-O.03）. CXCR4-CXCL12-CXCR7 mRNA levels were examined in 33/86 patients. Interestingly, the common CXCR4-CXCR7 ligand CXCL12 was expressed at significantly lower levels in tumor tissues compared to adjacent normal liver （P=0.032）. The expression and function of CXCR4 and CXCR7 was also analyzed in several human HCC cell lines. CXCR4 was expressed in Huh7, Hep3B, SNU398, SNU449 and SNU475 cells, whereas CXCR7 was expressed in HepG2, Huh7, SNU449 and SNU475 cells. Huh7, SNU449 and SNU475 cells migrated toward CXCL12, and this migration was inhibited by AMD3 lO0/anti-CXCR4 and by CCX771/anti-CXCR7. Moreover, SNU449 and Huh7 cells exhibited matrix invasion in the presence of CXCL12 and CXCL11, a ligand exclusive to CXCR7. In conclusion, CXCR4 affects the prognosis of HCC patients but CXCR7 does not. Therefore, the CXCR4-CXCL12-CXCR7 axis plays a role in the interaction of HCC with the surrounding normal tissue and represents a suitable therapeutic target.

Multitoxin Bt-crops expressing insecticidal toxins with different modes of action, for example, Cry and Vip, are expected to improve resistance management in target pests. While Cry1A resistance has been relatively well characterized in some insect species, this is not the case for Vip3A, for which no mechanism of resistance has yet been identified. Here we applied HT-SuperSAGE to analyze the transcriptome of the gut tissue of tobacco budworm Heliothis virescens (F.) laboratory-selected for Vip3Aa resistance. From a total of 1 324 252 sequence reads, 5 895 126-bp tags were obtained representing 17 751 nonsingleton unique transcripts (UniTags) from genetically similar Vip3Aa-resistant (Vip- Sel) and susceptible control (Vip-Unsel) strains. Differential expression was significant (≥2.5 fold or ≤0.4;P laSTN searches mapped 419 UniTags to H. virescens sequence contigs, of which, 416 (106 OE and 310 UE) were unambiguously annotated to proteins in NCBI nonredundant protein databases. Gene Ontology distributed 345 of annotated UniTags in 14 functional categories with metabolism (including serine-type hydrolases) and translation/ribosome biogenesis being the most prevalent. A UniTag homologous to a particular member of the REsponse to PAThogen (REPAT) family was found among most overexpressed, while UniTags related to the putative Vip3Aa-binding ribosomal protein S2 (RpS2) were underexpressed. qRT-PCR of a subset of UniTags validated the HT-SuperSAGE data. This study is the first providing lepidopteran gut transcriptome associated with Vip3Aa resistance and a foundation for future attempts to elucidate the resistance mechanism.
