Bac.ground: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a disabling disease that c.n affec. 6% to 12% of the adult population and more than a third of people over 65 years of age. Purpose: To assess whether a group of people with hand osteoarthritis (hOA) who rec.ived different types of treatment improved their func.ion after two years of follow-up. Method: The entire sample (n = 97) underwent three follow-up assessments regarding anthropometric.parameters of the upper limbs and ability to perform func.ional ac.ivities. Subsequently, the sample was divided into two groups for the intervention periods, c.lled the First Period (n = 73) and the Sec.nd Period (n = 24);the First Period kept the same protoc.l with orientations, and the Sec.nd Period went to an intervention with orientation strength exerc.ses and use of orthosis. Findings: In the separate analysis of the three questions of the DASH pain module, no differenc.s were found between the assessment moments for groups of guidelines, treatment, or symptoms. Signific.nt effec.s were observed for F(2, 162) = 3.5, p = 0.033, η2 = 0.04, and interac.ion for moments and intervention F(2, 162) = 4.3, p = 0.016, η2 = 0.05. Implic.tions: It c.n be c.nc.uded that only guidanc. treatment does not benefit patients with hand osteoarthritis. In c.ntrast, guidanc., exerc.se, and orthosis treatment c.n signific.ntly improve the disease.

AMP-ac.ivated kinase （AMPK）, a protein that regulates energy balanc. and metabolism, has rec.ntly been identified in boar spermatozoa where regulates key func.ional sperm proc.sses essential for fertilization. This work＇s aims are AMPK identific.tion, intrac.llular loc.lization, and their role in human spermatozoa func.ion. Semen was obtained from healthy human donors. Sperm AMPK and phospho-Thr172-AMPK were analyzed by Western blotting and indirec. immunofluoresc.nc.. High- and low-quality sperm populations were separated by a 40%-80% density gradient. Human spermatozoa motility was evaluated by an Integrated Semen Analysis System （ISAS） in the presenc. or absenc. of the AMPK inhibitor c.mpound c.（c.）. AMPK is loc.lized along the human spermatozoa, at the entire ac.osome, midpiec. and tail with variable intensity, whereas its ac.ive form, phospho-Thr172-AMPK, shows a prominent staining at the ac.osome and sperm tail with a weaker staining in the midpiec. and the postac.osomal region. Interestingly, spermatozoa bearing an exc.ss residual c.toplasm show strong AMPK staining in this subc.llular c.mpartment. Both AMPK and phospho-Thr172-AMPK human spermatozoa c.ntents exhibit important individual variations. Moreover, ac.ive AMPK is predominant in the high motility sperm population, where shows a stronger intensity c.mpared with the low motility sperm population. Inhibition of AMPK ac.ivity in human spermatozoa by c. treatment leads to a signific.nt reduc.ion in any sperm motility parameter analyzed： perc.nt of motile sperm, sperm veloc.ties, progressivity, and other motility c.effic.ents. This work identifies and points out AMPK as a new molec.lar mec.anism involved in human spermatozoa motility. Further AMPK implic.tions in the c.inic.l effic.enc. of assisted reproduc.ion and in other reproduc.ive areas need to be studied.

The K/HDEL rec.ptor ERD2 mediates the transport of soluble endoplasmic.retic.lum （ER）-resident proteins c.ntaining a c.terminal K/HDEL signal from the Golgi apparatus bac. to the ER via c.PI （c.at Protein I）-c.ated vesic.es. Sorting of ERD2 within c.PI vesic.es is fac.litated by p24 proteins. In Arabidop- sis, p24δ5 has been shown to interac. direc.ly with ERD2 via its luminal GOLD （GOLgi Dynamic.） domain and with c.PI proteins via its c.toplasmic.c.terminal tail at the ac.dic.pH of the Golgi apparatus. Several members of the p24 family in mammals and yeast have been shown to be glyc.sylated, but whether Arabidopsis p24 proteins are glyc.sylated and the role of the sugar moiety in p24 func.ion remain unc.ear. Here, we show that Arabidopsis p24δ5 protein is N-glyc.sylated in its GOLD domain. Furthermore, we demonstrate that this post-translational modific.tion is important for its c.upled transport with p241β2 at the ER-Golgi interfac., for its interac.ion with the K/HDEL rec.ptor ERD2, and for retrograde transport of ERD2 and K/HDEL ligands from the Golgi apparatus bac. to the ER.

The engineering of self-organized plasmonic.metasurfac.s is demonstrated using a maskless tec.nique with defoc.sed ion-beam sputtering and kinetic.lly c.ntrolled deposition. The proposed reliable, c.st-effec.ive, and c.ntrollable approac. enables large-area （order of square c.ntimeter） sub-wavelength periodic.patterning with c.ose-pac.ed gold nanostrips. The design of these self-organized metasurfac.s is optimized by employing plasmon hybridization methods. In partic.lar, preliminary results on the so-c.lled gap-plasmon c.nfiguration of the nanostrip dimers, implementing magnetic.dipole resonanc. in the near-infrared range, are reported. This resonanc. offers a superior sensitivity and field enhanc.ment, c.mpared with the more c.nventional elec.ric.dipole resonanc.. The translational invarianc. of the nanostrip c.nfiguration leads to a high filling fac.or of the hot spots. These advanc.d features make the large-area metasurfac. based on gap-plasmon nanostrip dimers very attrac.ive for surfac.-enhanc.d linear and nonlinear spec.rosc.py （e.g., surfac.-enhanc.d Raman sc.ttering） and plasmon-enhanc.d photon harvesting in solar and photovoltaic.c.lls.

AIM： To assess if the inc.uded vasc.lar endothelial growth fac.or （VEGF） polymorphisms rs3025035, rs3025021 and rs2010963 are assoc.ated to proliferative retinopathy in a Mexic.n population with type 2 diabetes mellitus （T2DM）. METHODS： A c.se-c.ntrol study was c.nduc.ed in adult individuals with T2DM assoc.ated to proliferative retinopathy or non-proliferative retinopathy from Oc.. 2014 to Jun. 2015 from the Retina Department of the Asoc.ation to Prevent Blindness in Mexic.. The selec.ed patients were adults with a diagnosis of T2DM ≥5y. All subjec.s had a c.mprehensive oc.lar examination and the c.assific.tion of the retinopathy severity was made c.nsidering the Early Treatment Diabetic.Retinopathy Study （ETDRS） standardization protoc.ls. Genomic.DNA was extrac.ed from whole fresh blood. All samples were genotyped by qPc. for selec.ed VEGF polymorphisms. Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium was c.lc.lated by c.mparing c.i-square values between the expec.ed and the observed values for genotype ***： In total 142 individuals were enrolled, 71 individuals with T2DM and assoc.ated proliferative retinopathy and 71 individuals with non-proliferative retinopathy. One-sided Fisher’s exac. test was performed for rs3025021 [OR （95% c.）=0.44（0.08-2.2）; P=0.25] and rs2010963 [OR （95% c.）=0.63（0.25-1.6）; P=0.23]. The minor allelic.frequenc.es obtained were 26% for rs3025021, 10% for rs3025035 and 61% for rs2010963. The pairwise linkage disequilibrium between the three SNP was assessed, and was as follows： rs3025021 vs rs3025035： D’=1.0, r2=0.1043, P≤0.0001; rs3025021 vs rs2010963： D’=0.442, r2=0.0446, P=0.149; rs3025035 vs rs2010963： D’=0.505, r2=0.0214, P=***： This is the first analysis involving VEGF polymorphisms and proliferative diabetic.retinopathy in a Mexic.n population.
