Protein profile of leprosy patients with plantar ulcers from.the Eastern Am.zon region

Background:Studies investigating the nutritional status of patients with leprosy and plantar ulcers are ***,the objective of this study was to describe the protein profile of leprosy patients with plantar ulcers from.the Eastern Am.zon ***:A case record form.was created for 75 patients with leprosy(31 with plantar ulcers and 44 without plantar ulcers)with the following data:sociodem.graphic characteristics,clinical form.of leprosy,presence or absence of plantar ulcers,and nutritional assessm.nt using anthropom.try consisting of the m.asurem.nt of body m.ss index,arm.circum.erence,arm.m.scle circum.erence,and triceps *** of blood album.n,transferrin,and C-reactive protein(CRP)were also *** regarding protein intake were obtained using a Food Frequency ***:Plantar ulcers occurred m.re frequently in m.le patients(67.7%),patients aged 40-49 years(m.an±SD:47.3±8.0 years),and patients receiving 300 or 600 USD(71.0%).The m.an weight and height of patients were 71.6±11.4 kg and 1.62±0.1 m.*** levels of CRP were detected in 51.6%of leprosy patients with plantar ulcers and only 9.1%of patients without plantar ulcers(Pdepletion of transferrin was observed in 14.3%of patients with paucibacillary leprosy and 44.3%of patients with m.ltibacillary leprosy(P=0.0447).m.st patients had norm.l levels of serum.album.n(74.2%with plantar ulcers and 77.3%without plantar ulcers).Conclusions:m.st leprosy patients with plantar ulcers have norm.l levels of serum.album.n and transferrin and high CRP levels,which indicates the presence of an inflam.atory *** findings suggest the need to m.nitor patients with leprosy to prevent the occurrence of plantar ulcers and to provide adequate treatm.nt for patients with existing plantar ulcers.

Background： The aim.of this study was to estim.te variance com.onents and to identify genom.c regions and pathways associated with resistance to gastrointestinal parasites, particularly Haem.nchus contortus, in a breed of sheep adapted to tropical clim.te. Phenotypes evaluations were perform.d to verify resistance to gastrointestinal parasites, and were divided into two categories： i） farm.phenotypes, assessing body condition score（BCS）, degree of anem.a assessed by the fam.cha chart（FAm., fur score（FS） and feces consistency（FC）; and ii） lab phenotypes,com.rising blood analyses for hem.tocrit（HCT）, white blood cell count（WBC）, red blood cell count（RBC）,hem.globin（HGB）, platelets（PLT） and transform.d（log10） egg per gram.of feces（EPG_（log））. A total of 576 anim.ls were genotyped with the Ovine SNP12k Bead Chip（Illum.na, Inc.）, that contains 12,785 bialleleic SNP m.rkers. The variance com.onents were estim.ted using a single trait m.del by single step genom.c BLUP ***： The overall linkage disequilibrium.LD） m.an between pairs of m.rkers m.asured by r2 was 0.23. The overall LD m.an between m.rkers considering windows up to 10 m. was 0.07. The m.an LD between adjacent SNPs across autosom.s ranged from.0.02 to 0.10. Heritability estim.tes were low for EPG_（log）（0.11）, m.derate for RBC（0.18）, PLT（0.17） HCT（0.20）, HGB（0.16） and WBC（0.22）, and high for FAm.0.35）. A total of 22, 21, 23, 20, 26, 25 and 23 windows for EPG_（log）for FAm. WBC, RBC, PLT, HCT and HGB traits were identified, respectively. Am.ng the associated windows, 10 were shown to be com.on to HCT and HGB traits on OAR1, OAR2, OAR3, OAR5, OAR8 and ***： The traits indicating gastrointestinal parasites resistance presented an adequate genetic variability to respond to selection in Santa Inês breed, and it is expected a higher genetic gain for FAm.trait when com.ared to the others. To determ.ne if reduced tree densities(num.er of trees per unit area) lead to changes in m.cro-m.teorological and tree physiological characteristics, two areas with different tree densities were assessed. One was an agrosilvopastoral system.AGP) with low tree density, and the other, a secondary forest(SF) with greater tree num.ers, both located in a sem.arid region of Brazil. Data were collected sim.ltaneously by two autom.ted weather stations: rainfall, air(T_a) and soil tem.eratures(T_(s5 cm.), relative hum.dity(RHair), photosynthetically active radiation(PAR), soil m.isture at two depths(m.(s30 cm.and m.(s50 cm.),and wind velocity(Vw). Net photosynthesis in Cordia oncocalyx Allem.?o trees was m.asured with an infrared gas analyzer in February, m.rch, m.y, July, August and Septem.er 2011, which encom.asses a rainy period followed by a dry period. Average values of Ta, T_(s5 cm., Vwand PAR were greater and average values of RHairand m.(s50 cm. were lesser in the AGP. Photosynthetic rates were greater in plants growing under the AGP at the onset of the dry season when Vw, PAR and T_(s5 cm.were greater and m.(s50 cm. was lesser. Photosynthetic rates correlated strongly with physical param.ters during the dry season, especially under SF. Differences in tree num.ers between AGP and SF led to differences in physical environm.ntal param.ters;however, the latter had less influence on photosynthetic rates in C. oncocalyx during the rainy season. During the dry season, all physical param.ters had an im.act on net photosynthesis under SF but not under AGP. This indicates a certain independence of plants in AGP.

Vitellogenin （Vg） is an egg yolk protein that is produced prim.rily in the fat body of m.st fem.le insects. In the advanced social structure of eusocial honeybees, the presence of the queen inhibits egg m.turation in the workers＇ ovaries. However in the stingless bee m.lipona quadrifasciata, the workers always develop ovaries and lay a certain am.unt of eggs while provisioning the brood cells with larval food during what is known as the worker nurse phase. The present work is a com.arative study of the presence of Vg in hom.genates of the fat bodies and ovaries of the nurse workers, and the virgin and physogastric queens of m. quadrifasciata. The presence of Vg was determ.ned by sodium.dodecyl sulfate polyacrylam.de gel electrophoresis and irnm.noblotting using Apis m.llifera anti-egg antibody. Vg was not detected in the fat bodies or ovaries of the workers, but it was found in the ovaries of virgin and physogastric queens and in the fat body ofphysogastric queens. The results are discussed, taking into account the reproductive state of the individuals and the other possible roles of Vg, such as a storage protein for m.toabolism.of other organs.

BACKGROUND Patients with cirrhosis are at risk of cirrhotic cardiom.opathy,with resulting cardiac dysfunction and exercise *** m.nute walking test(6m.T)assesses functional status and predicts m.rbidity and m.rtality in cardiopulm.nary *** To determ.ne if it associates with m.rtality by analyzing 6m.T perform.nce in patients with liver *** A cohort of 106 cirrhotic patients was evaluated in the outpatient setting with echocardiogram.and 6m.T and follow up for one year to docum.nt hepatic decom.ensation and *** distance in m.ters was recorded at the end of 6 m.n(6m.D).RESULTS This cohort had a m.an age of 51 years and 56%m.le;patients were staged as Child A in 21.7%,B 66%and C 12.3%.Walk distance inversely correlated with Child scores,and was significantly reduced as Child stages *** who died(10.4%)showed shorter m.an 6m.D(P=0.006).Low 6m.D was an independent predictor of m.rtality(P=0.01).CONCLUSION 6m.T is a noninvasive inexpensive test whose result is related to Child scores and *** is useful to identify patients with liver cirrhosis at high risk of m.rtality for closer m.nitoring and potential early intervention.
