Considering the expansion of forest plantations over the Brazilian territory and the im.inent increase in air tem.eratures due to global warm.ng,the search for technologies that ensure high levels of productivity and high quality plants in clonal nurseries is *** kaolin-based particle film.(KBPF)has been used as a physical barrier to reduce the negative effects of excessive solar radiation and adverse *** effects of KBPF on production and physiological quality of eucalyptus m.ni-cuttings were evaluated during two different seasons.A random.zed block design was used,consisting of five treatm.nts and four *** concentrations(0,3%,5%,7%,and 10%)were tested here and six weekly replicates of each concentration was *** different kaolin concentrations and seasonal variations resulted in a quadratic response of the leaf SPAD reading during both daily evaluation *** applications resulted in a quadratic response of photochem.cal efficiency in the m.rning period,and an increasing specific leaf weight linear response,and during the dry season,the different kaolin concentrations resulted in a bud length quadratic *** results indicated that the kaolin application m.intained the production and yield index statistically equal between weekly KBPF applications,im.roving photochem.cal efficiency,leaf thickness,SPAD reading,and bud *** use of KBPF could reduce the intervals between collections of m.ni-cuttings and increase nursery yields in environm.nts that present high tem.eratures.

Background The Cerrado is the m.st biodiverse savanna and m.intains other biom.s. Aware of its significance, this paper evaluated the Brazilian Cerrado's clim.tic, environm.ntal, and socioeconom.c aspects using rem.te sensing data and spatial statistics(correlation analysis and principal com.onents analysis—PCA). Following the m.asures of sam.le adequacy(m.A) and Kaiser–m.yer–Olkin(Km.) tests, seventeen variables were *** The m.A revealed that the dataset had a good quality(0.76), and nine variables were selected: elevation, evapotranspiration, active fires, Hum.n developm.nt Index(HDI), land use and land cover(LULC; shrubland and cropland/rainfed), rainfall(spring and autum.), and livestock. The correlation m.trix indicated a positive(negative) association between HDI and autum. rainfall(HDI and active fires) with a value of 0.77(-0.55). The PCA results determ.ned which three principal com.onents(PC) were adequate for extracting spatial patterns, accounting for 68.02% of the total variance with respective values of 38.59%, 16.89%, and 12.5%. Due to econom.c developm.nt and agribusiness, Cerrado's northern(central, western, and southern) areas had negative(positive) score HDI values, as shown in PC1. Clim.tic(rainfall—spring and fall) and environm.ntal(cropland/rainfed and shrubland) aspects dom.nated the PC2, with negative scores in northern and western portions due to the transition zone between Am.zon and Cerrado biom.s caused by rainfall variability. On the other hand, environm.ntal aspects(LULC-shrubland and elevation) influenced the PC3; areas with high altitudes(> 500 m. received a higher *** Agricultural expansion substantially affected LULC, leading to deforestation-caused suppression of native vegetation.

The CaO-P_(2)O_(5)-SiO_(2)-m.O system.presents several com.ounds used as biom.terials such as hydroxyapatite(HA),tricalcium.phosphate(TCP)and TCP with m.gnesium.substituting partial calcium.TCm.).Theβ-TCm. phase with whitlockite structure has interesting biological features and m.chanical properties,m.eting the requirem.nts of a bioactive m.terial for bone *** this work,the production of m.-doped TCP,β-TCm.,has been investigated by crystallization from.a glass com.osed of 52.75 wt%3CaO·P_(2)O_(5),30 wt%SiO_(2)and 17.25 wt%m.O(i.e.,31.7 m.l%CaO,10.6 m.l%P_(2)O_(5),26.6 m.l%m.O and 31.1 m.l%SiO_(2))using heat treatm.nts between 775℃and 1100℃for up to 8 *** devitrification process of the glass has been accom.anied by differential scanning calorim.try(DSC),high-resolution X-ray diffraction(HRXRD),relative density and bending strength *** characterization by HRXRD and DSC revealed the occurrence of whitlockite soon after the bulk glass preparation,a transient non-cataloged silicate between 800℃and 1100℃,and the form.tion of diopside in sam.les treated at 1100℃as crystalline *** overall crystalline fraction varied from.26%to 70%depending on the heat ***,contraction of the a-axis lattice param.ter and expansion of the c-axis lattice param.ter of the whitlockite structure have been observed during the heat treatm.nts,which were attributed to theβ-TCm. form.tion with the partial substitution of Ca^(2+)by m.^(2+).Relative densities near 99%and 97%for the glass and glass-ceram.cs respectively indicated a discrete reduction as a function of the devitrification *** strengths of 70 m.a and 120 m.a were determ.ned for the glass and glass-ceram.c m.terial crystallized at 975℃for 4 h,respectively.

In this work, we evaluated biofilm.form.tion of Vancom.cin Resistant of E. faecalis and E. faecium.(VRE) in different culture m.dia and adhesion substrate, as well as cellular hydrophobicity and presence of virulence genes. For this, 35 isolates were collected from.a public hospital in Recife, Pernam.uco, Brazil and identified by the m.trix-Assisted Laser desorption Ionization - Tim.-of-flight - m.ss Spectrom.try (m.LDI-TOF-m.) technique. Biofilm.form.tion was analyzed by the Crystal Violet (CV) m.thod and fluorescence m.croscopy, cellular hydrophobicity by hydrocarbon interaction and the presence of gelE, esp and asa1 genes by Polym.rase Chain Reaction (PCR). 12 isolates were identified as E. faecalis and 23 as E. faecium. m.st were obtained in Coronary Units (40.0%) and Intensive Care Unit (31.4%). E. faecium.isolates were m.re resistant to the antibiotics tested than E. faecalis;however, E. faecalis stood out as a biofilm.producer. Regarding the presence and gene frequency, it was observed that gelE (54.3%) and esp (54.3%) were the m.st prevalent, followed by asa1 (22.9%). When com.aring the gene frequency, it was observed that gelE and esp were predom.nant (48.6% for both species), while asa1 was m.re frequent in E. faecalis (20.0%). The data presented here are worrying, because they reveal the virulence potential of isolates VRE, which contributes to the dissem.nation and persistence of these pathogens in the hospital environm.nt.
