Myiasis is considered a serious medical condition in animals and humans that occurs predominantly in tropical *** hominivorax is one of the main fly species that causes myiasis and the actual geographic distribution includes the Caribbean and all of South America,except *** use of synthetic insecticides and endectocides in livestock for the myiasis treatment has resulted in insect resistance,while also causing residuals in the environment and contamination of animal food *** active compounds are considered an alternative for the sustainable management of insects,as they are biodegradable and less damaging to the *** study developed a nanoemulsion containing the essential oil of Baccharis dracunculifolia and evaluated its in vitro effects on *** *** pressure homogenization was used to develop the *** tests were carried out with the tested products using 15 larvae/repetition,for a total of 150 larvae per *** different concentrations of the nanoemulsion were tested shortly after preparation and after 120 days of *** the fresh formulation,at concentrations of 5,7.5,10,13.5,and 15%(w/v)we found mortality of 28,48,70,84,and 97%,respectively,while for the stored formulation,we found mortality of 17,36,51,81,and 92%.The larvicidal effect was similar,except for the concentrations of 5 and 10%(w/v)(p<0.05).Our results show that the natural based *** nanoemulsion can be considered a promising alternative for the treatment and control of myiasis caused by ***.

Background Anthonomus grandis grandis is the main cotton pest in the Americas,with the potential to become a pest in other *** insect uses the plant's reproductive organs for feeding,oviposition,and survival strategies in the off-season,sheltering in dry *** study aimed to know the reproductive potential,feeding,longevity,and morphometric characteristics of boll weevils from dry bolls,squares,and *** were obtained from infested squares,dry bolls,and traps installed in cotton fields and the Caatinga *** weevil pairs were maintained in the laboratory to assess the oviposition,feeding holes,longevity,and morphometric measurements of the parental and F_(1) *** In the parental generation,boll weevils from traps(the Caatinga area and cotton cultivation)showed greater reproductive *** weevils from squares and the Caatinga area showed greater feeding activity compared with those from cotton *** rostrum length,thorax+abdomen length,and abdomen width were observed in boll weevils from cotton cultivation and dry *** origin of boll weevils parental generation did not affect progeny emergence *** F_(1) generation of boll weevils showed significant differences in average longevity depending on the origin of different ***,differences in rostrum lengths were observed,with the boll weevils coming from traps installed in cotton cultivation,the Caatinga area,and dry bolls being the *** thorax+abdomen length and abdomen width,the highest values were observed in those from the Caatinga area and cotton *** It was proven that dry bolls did not affect the reproductive,feeding,and longevity performance of boll weevils,enabling better insect fitness(reproduction and size)in relation to those coming from *** use of dry bolls as off-season shelter is an important survival strategy for the boll weevil.

In vitro antioxidant,antilipoxygenase and antimicrobial activities of extracts from seven climbing plants belonging to the Bignoniaceae

Objectives： This study aimed to evaluate the in vitro antioxidant capacity, to determine the anti-inflammatory effect due to lipoxygenase inhibition and to test the antimicrobial activity of ethanolic extracts from leaves of seven climbing species belonging to the Bignoniaceae family. These species are Adenocalyrnrna rnarginatum （Cham.） DC., Amphilophium vauthieri DC., Cuspidaria convoluta （VEIL） A. H. Gentry, Dolichandra dentata （K. Schum.） L. G. Lohmann, Fridericia caudigera （S. Moore） L. G. Lohmann, Fridericia chica （Bonpl.） L. G. Lohmann and Tanaecium selloi （Spreng.） L. G. Lohmann. Methods： The antioxidant activity was evaluated using three methods, 2,2＇-azino-bis（3-ethylbenzothiazo line-6-sulfonic acid）（ABTS）, 2,2-diphenyl-l-picrylhydrazyl （DPPH）, and ferric reducing antioxidant power. Lipoxygenase-inhibiting activity was assayed spectrophotometrically; the result was expressed as percent inhibition. The antimicrobial activity was assessed using the agar disk diffusion method. Minimal inhibitory concentration （MIC） and minimal bactericidal]fungicidal concentration were also determined for each extract against 12 pathogenic bacterial strains of Staphylococcus aureus and seven fungal strains of the Candida genus. The identification of the major compounds present in the most promising extract was established by high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. Results： C convoluta, F. caudigera, and F. chica exhibited the best antioxidant activity by scavenging DPPH and ABTS~ radicals and reducing Fe3＋ ion. These extracts showed a notable inhibition of lipnxygenase. F. caudigera was found to have the lower MIC value against S. aureus strains and six Candida species. The extracts of F. caudigera and C. convoluta were active even against methicillin-resistant S. aureus. C convoluta had higher total phenol content, better antioxidant activity and superior anti- inflammatory and antimicrobial activity. The main phenolic compounds found in this extract

Degradation of indomethacin in river water under stress and non-stress laboratory conditions:degradation products,long-term evolution and adsorption to sediment

The pharmaceutical compound indomethacin is not totally removed in wastewater treatment plants,whose effluents flow into aquatic environments;concentrations in the 0.1-100 ng/L range are commonly found in surface waters,and its fate is ***,biological,photochemical and thermal degradation assays were conducted under stress and non-stress conditions to estimate its degradation rate in river water and establish its degradation products over *** results revealed that direct sunlight irradiation promoted the complete degradation of indomethacin（2 μg/L） in less than 6 hr,but indomethacin was detected over a period of 4 months when water was kept under the natural day-night cycle and the exposure to sunlight was partially limited,as occurs inside a body of *** biological degradation in water was negligible,while the hydrolysis at pH 7.8 was *** were monitored by ultra-pressure liquid chromatography/quadrupole time-of-flight/mass spectrometry after solid-phase extraction,and six degradation products were found;their structures were proposed based on the molecular formulae and fragmentation observed in high-resolution tandem mass spectra.4-Chlorobenzoic and 2-acetamido-5-methoxybenzoic acids were the long-term transformation products,persisting for at least 30 weeks in water kept under non-stress ***,the degradation in the presence of sediment was also monitored over time,with some differences being *** adsorption coefficients of indomethacin and degradation products on river sediment were calculated;long-term degradation products did not have significant adsorption to sediment.

Social Vulnerability to Natural Hazards in Brazil

Although social vulnerability has recently gained attention in academic studies, Brazil lacks frameworks and indicators to assess it for the entire *** vulnerability highlights differences in the human capacity to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters. It varies over space and time, and among and between social groups, largely due to differences in socioeconomic and demographic characteristics. This article provides a social vulnerability index(SoVI~) replication study for Brazil and shows how SoVI~concepts and indicators were adapted to the country. SoVI~Brazil follows the place-based framework adopted in the Social Vulnerability Index initially developed for the United States. Using a principal component analysis(PCA), 45city-level indicators were reduced to 10 factors that explain about 67 % of the variance in the data. Clearly identified spatial patterns showed a concentration of the most socially vulnerable cities in the North and Northeast regions of Brazil, as well as the social vulnerability of metropolitan areas and state capitals in the South and Southeast *** least vulnerable cities are mainly concentrated in the inland regions of the Southeast. Although different factors contribute to the social vulnerability in each city, the overall results confirm the social and economic disparities among Brazilian’s regions and reflect a differential vulnerability to natural hazards at local to regional scales.

Clinicopathological Description of a Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia in a Dog

Hematopoietic tumors are associated with diagnostic and therapeutic challenges and a poor prognosis. Furthermore, their pathophysiology in dogs is not well understood. Chronic lymphocytic leukemia has been rarely reported in golden retrievers, perhaps due to difficulties in diagnosis and care. An 8-year-old spayed female golden retriever was referred to our hospital with a 2-month history of fatigue, weakness, and selective appetite. The dog was diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia based on blood smear evaluation. Despite treatment, the dog deteriorated and the owners opted for euthanasia. Histopathological examination revealed atypical lymphocytes in the spleen, extramedullary hematopoiesis in the spleen and liver, bone marrow depletion, moderate neutrophilic myocarditis, and acute renal tubular necrosis. In an immunohistochemical panel, cells in the spleen and bone marrow were positive for anti-CD20, anti-CD45, anti-CD3, anti-IBA-1, anti-Ki67, anti-MUM-1, and anti-PAX-5. In conclusion, the leukemia diagnosis was confirmed through reactive histiocytosis, marked extramedullary hematopoiesis, and other clinical and laboratory findings. Herein, we report a case of chronic lymphocytic leukemia in a female dog with clinical, laboratory, and necroscopy findings.

We consider linear partial differential equations of first order on a region . We will see that we can write the equation in partial derivatives as an Fredholm integral equation of the first kind and will solve this latter with the techniques of inverse problem moments. We will find an approximated solution and bounds for the error of the estimated solution using the techniques on problem of moments.

Health Care System in Portugal for People with Motor Problems

Purpose: From a social and labor inclusion perspective, the article presents a digital prototype conceptualized to provide a “Diagnostic Page”, which delivers various prescribers and suppliers of support products that mitigate the problems of the respective patients. It also provides a “Patient Card Page”, where all the information about financing the respective products is placed, as well as all the documents likely to be needed for the commercial transactions to be carried out by all the parties involved. It also aims to provide a digital medium to grow a community in this niche market. In the action research methodology approach, the prototype was taken to funding competitions and conferences, where interviews and surveys were carried out, and a number of suggestions were collected on the type of platform to consider in order to respond to the concerns and needs of end users, such as patients, prescribers, suppliers and associations. Methods: The digital platform where the system is hosted uses algorithms that, on the diagnostic page, consider keywords used by patients and return a series of prescribers and suppliers of support products, in which the corresponding percentage of attenuation is taken into account and the best solution found to overcome the level of difficulty presented by the respective patients is delivered. Results and Conclusions: It is hoped that, with this platform, people with motor problems will be able to obtain their diagnosis instantly, through the algorithm implemented, and that they will immediately be provided with a series of prescribers, suppliers and support products best suited to their needs, as well as all the information or conditions necessary to purchase or finance them. On the other hand, prescribers, suppliers and associations have an online platform where they can offer their consultations, products and other support as freelancers who are part of a community.

Can sexual selection and disassortative mating contribute to the maintenance of a shell color polymorphism in an inter- tidal marine snail？

Littorina fabalis is an intertidal snail commonly living on the brown algae Fucus vesiculosus and showing frequent shell-color polymorphisms in the wild. The evolutionary mechanism underlying this polymorphism is currently unknown. Shell color variation was studied in mated and non-mated specimens of this species from different microareas in one locality from NW Spain, in order to estimate sexual selection and assortative mating that may （still） be operating in this population. The analyses across microareas allowed us to investigate frequency-dependent selection and assortative mating components, mechanisms that could maintain the polymorphism. The presence of shell scars caused by crab attacks, an environmental variable not related with sexual selection or assortative mating, was used as experimental control. This study provides new evidence of significant disas- sortative mating and some degree of sexual selection against some shell colors, supporting the results found 21 years ago in a similar study, i.e. in the same species and locality. The similarity of these estimates during the studied period suggests that this experimental approach is consistent and valid to be extended to other populations and organisms. In addition, sexual selection and assortative mating estimates did not change across microareas differing in shell color frequencies, suggesting than the polymor- phism can not be maintained by a frequency-dependent （sexual selection-based） mechanism. Our main hypothesis is that negative assortative mating could contribute to the maintenance of the polymorphism, perhaps by males showing distinct female color preferences when searching for mates [Current Zoology 58 （3）： 463-474, 2012].
