Cr.atine supplementation in exer.ised r.ts: Effects on the aer.bic capacity

This study aimed to analyze the possible metabolic distur.ances caused by cr.atine supplementation on aer.bic capacity of r.ts, infer.ed by the maximal lactate steady state. For.y male Wistar.r.ts (90 days old) wer. distr.buted into two gr.ups for.eight weeks: tr.ined gr.up (T): r.ts that wer. submitted to a tr.ining pr.tocol, and supplemented-tr.ined gr.up (TCr.: r.ts that wer. submitted to a tr.ining pr.tocol and r.ceived balanced diet supplemented with 2% cr.atine. The blood lactate concentr.tions equivalent to maximal lactate steady state dur.ng tr.admill r.nning wer. analyzed at the beginning and also at the end of the exper.ment. At the end of the exper.ment wer. done compar.ng the test r.sults MLSS between the two gr.ups. At the beginning of the exper.ment, pr.or.to gr.ups division, the major.ty of animals obtained MLSS at a speed of26 m/min, blood lactate concentr.tion of 3.79 ± 0.76 mmol/L. At the end of the exper.ment, most of tr.ined r.ts in T pr.sented MLSS at the speed of28 m/min, blood lactate concentr.tion of 3.37 ± 0.68 mmol/L. Most TCr.had MLSS at the speed of28 m/min, blood lactate concentr.tion of 3.52 ± 0.69 mmol/L. We conclude that cr.atine supplementation was not the cause of the impr.vement in the aer.bic capacity of r.ts in the tr.ad-mill exer.ise.
