Metastases of lung cancer to the spleen are a great rarity and described sporadically. The authors describe the case of the left lung cancer in which the histopathological diagnosis was made only on the base of the biopsy material taken from the metastatic lesion in the spleen. Interestingly, the location of the primary cancer site made it impossible to obtain the specimens and only a single distant metastatic lesion was found in the spleen. The case presented above is an example that metastasis can occur in every organ, sometimes can be isolated in the least probable organs, and when such organ is available for biopsy, it can be useful for pathological diagnosis.

In the case of electric or tram traction vehicles, the energy for propulsion purposes, as well as all other purposes, is processed and delivered via traction substations. Knowledge of the course of traction substation loading, especially at the stage of its design, is an extremely important issue because of the choice of the processing equipment of the main circuit or protection devices. In the range of investigations of railway traction substation B in vicinity of Cracow (Poland), the measurements of current load in hours 4:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. were realized. The measurements for the analysis were chosen from those realized between 6:00 a.m.-8:00 a.m. (the morning rush time). Due to the sampling of 2 h summit with a frequency of 2 kHz, the recorded data set contains 1.44 × 10~7 elements. Therefore, the necessary transformation of data was to lower frequency 1 Hz, 10 Hz and 50 Hz. The results of the analysis presented below indicate the effect of such conduct on the obtained results for the parameters of time series models. In view of the unsatisfactory effects of the polynomial approximation, there is a need to seek a more efficient approximation method for achieving the optimum compatibility with the measured process. Continued research should lead to the formulation of procedures, which will determine an acceptable accuracy of the expected variability of traction substation loads.

Recently aviation accident data shows that many fatal accidents in aviation are due to airworthiness issues despite the fact that all civil and private aircraft are required to comply with the airworthiness standards set by their national airworthiness *** paper presents a unique approach to continuous airworthiness problems optimization needed to reduce the risk associated with the gap between aircraft designers&manufacturing organization and continuing airworthiness(state of civil aviation authority and air operators).As a result of the paper summarizes these problems and searching of the possible solutions to be optimized,these problems are achieved to get more integration between(designers&manufacturing and air operators),finally the recommendations are drawn to address the safe operation of the aircraft and can be given to the International Civil Aviation Organization(ICAO),Federal Aviation Administration(FAA)and European Aviation Safety Agency(EASA)and Civil Aviation Authorities(CAAs)for more integration between all of them structure.

Multi-Year Observation of Lung Cancer Metastases to the Adrenal Glands

The purpose of our study was to show if there is any correlation between the location of the primary cancer site in the lungs and the appearance of metastases in the adrenal gland. 2,340 patients with confirmed lung cancer were analyzed. The study group of 2,340 patients was divided into two subgroups: 1,998 patients were diagnosed with lung cancer located only in one lung, and 342 with disseminated lung cancer. Among the group of 1,998 patients, in 218 cases, pathological lesions in the adrenal glands were detected using computer tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance (MR). In 161 out of 218 cases, suprarenal lesions were detected by ultrasound (US). All patients with suprarenal lesions detected by US (161 cases in total ) underwent US-guided biopsy. Among these patients, metastases to the adrenal glands were histopathologically confirmed in 91 cases. In 70 cases, the histopathological reporting confirmed benign lesions. Altogether there were 64 adrenal metastases originated from the left lung cancer and 32 metastases from the right lung cancer. In 342 patients with disseminated cancer, four of them had confirmed metastases in both adrenal glands; seven patients had a metastatic lesion in the left and three in the right adrenal gland. Among this group, metastases to other organs such as the liver, bones, central nervous system and mediastinal lymph nodes were also detected. The authors came to the conclusion that the higher occurrence rate of adrenal metastases from the left lung carcinoma as compared to the right lung carcinoma is associated with higher blood flow in the left lung.

While modeling a power supply system for an electric railway traction, knowing equivalent circuits of locomotives supplied this way is an essential issue. In alternating current traction, it is important to diagnose inter alia processes taking place in transformers installed on electric vehicles. This article presents specific phenomena occurring during the work of mono-phase, multi-winding, multisystem (systems AC: 50 Hz, 16.7 Hz) laboratory traction transformer. It also shows difficulties encountered during the process of identifying multi-port equivalent scheme"s elements of the described device, in which a construction defect occurs.

Technological Properties of Yeast Produced Surface Active Compounds in Connection with Their Application in Clean-Up Technologies

Biologically produced surfactants (SACs) can mobilize and solubilize non-aqueous phase liquids (NAPL) adsorbed onto soil constituents. The interest in microbial surfactants has increased during recent years due to their lower toxicity, higher biodegradability, selectivity and specific activity under extreme conditions than synthetic SACs. Main output of the project represents preparation of this yeast biosurfactant intended for washing of matrices contaminated by NAPL. The influence of cultivation media composition on biosurfactant production was studied and basic properties (critical micelle concentration (CMC), minimum surface tension) of isolated biosurfactants were compared with properties of synthetic surfactant with surface tension measurement. The interfacial tension of the systems containing aqueous solutions of different concentrations and non-polar substances was measured with petroleum compounds (kerosene Jet A-1), aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons (represented by toluene and hexane). The solution of biosurfactant Yarrowia lipolytica (YAR) in the concentration range of 0-500 mg/L reduced interfacial tension by 80% in all representative systems with model contaminants; biosurfactant Candida bombicola (CAN) was less efficient. Solubilization properties were proved with toluene and hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH) isomers alpha and gamma, and effective concentration of biosurfactants was determined as 100 mg/L for toluene and HCH. SACs produced by lipophilic yeast with non-toxic and non-pathogenic status (Yarrowia lipolytica, Candida sp., etc.) seem to be very promising. The results obtained will be used for the application of biosurfactants in the clean-up technologies as agents for the mobilization of non-polar contaminants as well as for stimulation of bioremediation processes.
