The influence of xenobiotic compounds on environment and on living organisms has been reported as an imminent public health problem. Among them we can list the contamination by Alkanes present in petroleum, hydrocarbons and organic contaminant substances from industrial effluents. Also, heavy metals are of particular interest because of their persistence in the environment contaminating the food webs. Among the innovative solutions for treatment of contaminated water and soil is the use of biological materials like living or dead microorganisms. Yeasts exhibit the ability to adapt to extreme condition such as temperature, pH and levels of organic and inorganic contaminants that make them a potential material to be used to remediate contaminated environment application. The goal of this work was to search for yeast isolates capable to use n-hexadecane (alkane hydrocarbon) as a primary carbon source and for those able to tolerate high concentration of lead (Pb) within a collection of 90 isolates obtained from the Sao Paulo Zoo composting system. The isolated yeast strains were identified by mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF-MS) and by sequencing of the ribosomal DNA (18S and D1/D2) conserved regions. We found that the collection bares 23 isolates capable of utilizing n-hexadecane and one which is able to tolerate high concentration of lead (Pb) with a high biosorption index compared to the reference yeast strains (bY4742, PE-2, CAT-1 and bG-1). These results confirm the initial hypothesis that the Sao Paulo Zoo composting is the source for diverse yeasts species with biotechnological application potential.

One possible application for the excess of glycerol, which is an exceeding byproduct in biodiesel industry, was used as carbon and energy sources for bioproducts synthesis. This work aims to evaluate biosurfactant production from glycerol by Pseudomonas aeruginosa EQ 109 isolated from crude oil-contaminated soil. Factorial design 2^3 was utilized to optimize the amount of biosurfactant produced, by using pH （A）, initial biomass concentration （b）, and initial glycerol concentration （C） as independent factors. The experiments were carried out in flasks containing 100 mL of mineral medium. biosurfactant production was monitored by increase of the emulsification of aviation kerosene （E24） and surface tension reduction （STr）. The results have shown that, at pH = 7.0, in order to increase E24, variables as b and C are the most influential, leading to a maximum value of E24 = 79%, as well as for an increase of GC （GCmax = 49%）. STR was the variable with the best correlation factor for the proposed linear model （R2=0.96） and its maximum value was 48%. Xfwas not significant to the model, although it was influenced by pH and C, with C = 40g/L （Xfmax = 4.56 g/L）.

This study aimed to investigate, for the first time, the plant growth, essential oil content and their chemical substances ofbaccharis trimera （Less.） DC., the first brazilian variety of medicinal plant, in response to five doses of organic fertilizer （0, 10, 20,30, 40 and 50 ton/ha） over two harvest moments-120 d and 242 d after transplanting （DAT）. The work was carried out fromFebruary to October 2011 at the experimental farm of the Sao Paulo State University ＂julio de Mesquita Filho＂（UNESP）, *** seedlings of b. trimera var. CPQbA-1 were respectively transplanted into experiment plots under six treatments： 0, 10, 20, 30,40 and 50 ton/ha of organic fertilizer. Each treatment had four replications and each plot consisted of 12 plants. Then they wereharvested at 120 DAT and 242 DAT, and the essential oil were extracted by hydrodistillation and analyzed by gas *** results were subjected to analysis of variance and the means were analysed using Tukey＇s test （5%） followed by a regressionanalysis. The fertilizer dose significantly influenced the height of the plants in the second harvest, while the higher dose of organicfertilizer positively impacted the essential oil content in the first harvest. Also, the level of organic fertilizer was directly correlatedwith the production of dry matter during the regrowth. Twenty-seven substances were identified in the essential oil samples, and themajor components were： bicyclogermacrene, trans-caryophyllene, germacrene-D, spathulenol and caryophyllene oxide. Thesefindings suggest that to obtain higher yields of dry matter ofb. trimera, it should be harvested around 242 DAT and organic fertilizershould be applied approximately to 50 ton/ha. Furthermore, higher doses of organic fertilizer and harvest at 120 DAT is able toincrease the essential oil content.

Carboniferous igneous rocks constitute volumetrically minor components of Iranian crust but preserve important information about the magmatic and tectonic history of SW *** granites and gabbronorites in NW Iran comprise a bimodal magmatic suite that intruded Ediacaran–Cambrian gneiss and are good representatives of carboniferous igneous *** SIMS U–Pb zircon ages indicate that the gabbronorites and granites were emplaced synchronously at20 *** granites show A-type magmatic affinities,with typical enrichments in alkalis,Ga,Zr,Nb and Y,depletion in Sr and P and fractionated REE patterns showing strong negative Eu *** gabbronorites are enriched in LREEs,Nb,Ta and other incompatible trace elements,and are similar in geochemistry to OIb-type *** and gabbronorites have similarεNd(t)(+1.3 to+3.4 and-0.1 to+4.4,respectively)and zirconεHf(t)(+1.7 to+6.2 and+0.94 to+6.5,respectively).The similar variation in bulk rockεNd(t)and zirconεHf(t)values and radiometric ages for the granites and gabbronorites indicate a genetic relationship between mafic and felsic magmas,either a crystal fractionation or silicate liquid immiscibility process;further work is needed to resolve petrogenetic *** compositional characteristics of the bimodal Ghushchi complex are most consistent with magmatic activity in an extensional tectonic *** extension may have occurred during rifting of Cadomian fragments away from northern Gondwana during early phases of Neotethys opening.

Fish, as one of the fishery resources, is an important constituent of the diet of the Amazon population, as it is the source of several nutritional components. The present work aimed to characterize the centesimal composition of Plagioscion squamosissimus fillet (n = 10) and Macrobrachium amazonicum meat (n = 82), species acquired in the estuarine region of the state of Amapá, brazil. Carcass yield, as well as protein, water content, lipids and ashes was determined according to the methodologies proposed by the Adolf Lutz Institute, as well as carbohydrate and caloric determinations. The analyses were performed in triplicate per sample. After comparing with the literature, it was possible to conclude that P. squamosissimus presented a fillet yield of 31.11%± 0.61%, high protein content (15.99 ± 1.26 g/100 g) and humidity (79.40 ± 1.10 g/100 g), moderate contents of mineral residues (1.10 ± 0.07 g/100 g) and carbohydrates (0.96 ± 0.90 g/100 g), low lipid contents (2.29 ± 0.65 g/100 g), as well as low caloric values (385,018.12 j/100 g) and M. amazonicum a meat yield of 44.12%± 8.34%, high levels of protein (22.81 ± 1.72 g/100 g), carbohydrates (1.92 ± 1.61 g/100 g) and mineral residues (1.76 ± 0.78 g/100 g), moderate water content (73.38 ± 0.78 g/100 g), low lipid levels (0.43 ± 0.08 g/100 g), as well as low caloric values (440,786.3 j/100 g). The results obtained in this work can serve as a subsidy in nutritional diets for humans, thus allowing an adequate dietary use of these species.

The paper aimed to determine the true identity of a presumed or commonly believed Sinarapan fish and compare their phylogenetic relationships by using DNA barcoding. The fish samples were collected by researchers from a fisheries research and development institution in April 2015 from four different lakes of bicol Region, i.e., Lakes buhi, Danao, Manapao and bato. DNA was extracted using cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide （CTAb） extraction buffer. The polymerase chain reaction （PCR） profile for the reaction was 94 ℃ for 10 min, followed by 35 cycles of 1 min at 94℃, 1 min at 48℃ and 1.5 min at 72℃, and a final extension of 10 min at 72℃. The CO 1 region with approximately 650 bp was amplified because of its capability to differentiate taxa. Sequencing was done by Macrogen while phylogenetic analysis was produced using a Molecular Evolutionary Genetics Analysis （MEGA） software version 6.0. The findings showed that CO1 can be used as a DNA marker in molecular identification of the fish samples. Samples from two of the four lakes were successfully sequenced. From basic local alignment search tool （bLAST） results, the maximum parsimony （MP） and neighbor-joining （N j） trees revealed that samples from Lakes buhi and bato are not species of Sinarapan but rather species of Leiopotherapon plumbeus and Rhinogobius giurinus, respectively. Furthermore, DNA barcoding is very useful in proving the true identity of unknown samples.

Objective: To determine the content of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) in oocytes from a range of patients with fertilization success and failure. Design: Analysis of mtDNA content in fertilized and unfertilized oocytes and embryos by real- time polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Setting: University hospital infertility and research center. Patient(s): Fifty- four women seeking treatment for infertility. Intervention(s): None. Main Outcome Measure(s): A total of 142 fertilized and unfertilized oocytes were classified into three main groups. Group I consisted of 35 fertilized oocytes from 21 patients; group II, 65 unfertilized oocytes from 36 patients; and group III, 42 degenerate oocytes from 23 patients. Mitochondrial DNA content was determined by SYbR Green real- time PCR- based assay. Result(s): The mean mtDNA copy number for the fertilized oocytes was 250,454, whereas for the unfertilized group it was 163,698. There were significant differences for mtDNA copy number between the male factor and female factor infertility unfertilized oocytes and between the unexplained infertility and female factor infertility groups. The mean copy number for the degenerate oocyte group was 44,629, which was significantly different from the other subdivisions in this group. Conclusion(s): Mitochondrial DNA content is critical to fertilization outcome and serves as an important marker of oocyte quality, explaining some cases of fertilization failure.

AIM:To compare the performance of three commercially available anti-human epidermalgrowth factor receptor 2(HER2)antibodies in whole-tissue sections and tissue microarrays(TMAs)of a series of gastric ***:We present a comparative analysis of three anti-HER2 antibodies(HercepTest,4b5 and SP3)using TMA and whole-tissue sections prepared from the same paraffin blocks of 199 gastric adenocarcinomas operated upon between january 2004 and December2008 at a brazilian cancer *** data on the patients’age,sex,the anatomical location of the tumor and the Lauren’s histological classification were collected from clinical and pathological *** immunohistochemical(IHC)results were examined by two pathologists and the cases were classified as positive(3+),equivocal(2+)and negative(0 or 1+),according to the criteria of the IHC scoring system of gastric *** and whole-tissue sections were evaluated separately and *** cases yielding discordant IHC results and/or scored as 2+were subjected to dual-color in situ hybridization in order to determine the final HER2 *** determining the sensitivity and predictive value for HER2-positive status,we measured the accuracy of each antibody by calculating the area under the receiver operating characteristic(ROC)*** agreement between the results obtained using the TMAs and those obtained using the whole-tissue sections was assessed by means of Kappa ***:Intratumoral heterogeneity of HER2 expression was observed with all ***2-positive expression(3+)in the whole-tissue sections was observed in 23 cases(11.6%)using the 4b5 antibody,in 18 cases(9.1%)using the SP3 antibody and in 10 cases(5.1%)using the HercepTest *** the TMAs,11 positive cases(5.6%)were identified using SP3 antibody,9(4.6%)using the 4b5 antibody and 6(3%)using the HercepTest *** sensitivity using whole-tissue sections and TMA,respectively,was 95.2%and 42.9%with 4b5,90.5%and 66.7%
