Temperature effect on the dynamic adsorption of anionic surfactants and alkalis to silica surfaces

Chemical loss such as surfactants and alkalis by adsorption to reservoir rock surface is an important issue in enhanced oil recovery(EOR). Here, we investigated the adsorption behaviors of anionic surfactants and alkalis on silica for the first time as a function of temperature using quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation(QCM-D). The results demonstrated that the temperature dependent critical micelle concentration of alcohol alkoxy sulfate(AAS) surfactant can be quantitatively described by the thermodynamics parameters of micellization, showing a mainly entropy-driven process. AAS adsorption was mediated under varying temperature conditions, by divalent cations for bridging effect, monovalent cations competitive for adsorption sites but not giving cation bridging, pH regulation of deprotonated sites of silica, presence of alkoxy groups in the surfactants, and synergistic effect of surfactant coinjection. The addition of organic alkalis can enhance the overall adsorption of the species with AAS,whereas inorganic alkali of na_(2)CO_(3) had capability of the sequestration of the divalent ions, whose addition would reduce AAS adsorption. The typical AAS adsorption indicated a non-rigid multilayer,estimated to have between 2 and 5 layers, with a likely compact bilayer followed by disorganized and unstable further layering. The new fundamental understanding about temperature effect on surfactants and alkalis adsorption contributes to optimizing the flooding conditions of chemicals and developing more efficient mitigation strategies.

Four new records of fish species （Cypriniformes： Nemacheilidae, Balitoridae; Characiformes： Prochilodontidae） and corrections of two misidentified fish species （Tetraodontiformes： Tetraodontidae; Beloniformes： Belonidae） in Yunnan, China

In this study, six fish species of five families are reported for the first time from Yunnan Province, China. The nemacheilid Schistura amplizona Kottelat, 2000 is reported from the Luosuojiang River and nanlahe River subbasins, Mekong basin; the prochilodontid Prochilodus lineatus(Valenciennes, 1837), the balitorid Vanmanenia serrilineata Kottelat, 2000, and the tetraodontid Monotrete turgidus Kottelat, 2000, from nanlahe River subbasin, Mekong basin; the balitorid Beaufortia daon(Mai, 1978), and the belonid Xenentodon canciloides(Bleeker, 1854), both, from Black River subbasin, Red River basin. The freshwater puffer M. turgidus and the needlefish X. canciloides have been previously misidentified as Tetraodon leiurus(Bleeker, 1950) and Tylosurus strongylurus(van Hasselt, 1823), respectively.

HIGH-ORDER WENO SIMULATIONS OF THREE-DIMENSIOnaL RESHOCKED RICHTMYER-MESHKOV INSTABILITY TO LATE TIMES:DYnaMICS,DEPENDENCE ON INITIAL CONDITIONS,AND COMPARISONS TO EXPERIMENTAL DATA

The dynamics of the reshocked multi-mode Richtmyer-Meshkov instability is investigated using 513 × 257^2 three-dimensional ninth-order weighted essentially nonoscil- latory shock-capturing simulations. A two-mode initial perturbation with superposed ran- dom noise is used to model the Mach 1.5 air/SF6 Vetter-Sturtevant shock tube experiment. The mass fraction and enstrophy isosurfaces, and density cross-sections are utilized to show the detailed flow structure before, during, and after reshock. It is shown that the mixing layer growth agrees well with the experimentally measured growth rate before and after reshock. The post-reshock growth rate is also in good agreement with the prediction of the Mikaelian model. A parametric study of the sensitivity of the layer growth to the choice of amplitudes of the short and long wavelength initial interfacial perturbation is also pre- sented. Finally, the amplification effects of reshock are quantified using the evolution of the turbulent kinetic energy and turbulent enstrophy spectra, as well as the evolution of the baroclinic enstrophy production, buoyancy production, and shear production terms in the enstrophy and turbulent kinetic transport equations.

Lymphocyte subsets predictive value and possible involvement of human papilloma virus infection on breast cancer molecular subtypes

AIM To detect human papilloma virus(HPV) presence and to characterize cellular immune response in breast cancer patients. METHODS A total of 74 women were included, of which 48 samples were from patients diagnosed with breast cancer and 26 patients with benign pathology of the breast. Molecular subtype classification was performed based on the immunohistochemical reports of the tumor piece. HPV genome detection and genotyping from fresh breast biopsies was performed using the INNO-LIPA HPV Genotyping Extra test(Innogenetics, Ghent, Belgium). CD3+, CD4+, CD8+ and natural killer(NK)+ cells levels from peripheral blood samples from patients with breast cancer and benign pathology were measured by flow cytometry. RESULTS Luminal A was the most frequent breast cancer molecular subtype(33.33%). HPV was detected in 25% of the breast cancer patients, and genotype 18 was the most frequent in the studied population. The mean of CD3+, CD4+ and CD8+ subpopulations were decreased in patients with breast cancer, in relation to those with benign pathology, with a statistically significant difference in CD8+ values(P = 0.048). The mean of NK+ cells was increased in the benign pathology group. The average level of CD3+, CD4+, CD8+ and NK+ cells decreased as the disease progressed. HER2+ and Luminal B HER2+ tumors had the lowest counts of cell subsets. HPV breast cancer patients had elevated counts of cellular subsets. CONCLUSION Determining level changes in cellular subsets in breast cancer patients is a useful tool to evaluate treatment response.

Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy （CIPN） is one of the most common and severe adverse effects related to cancer treatment. Unfortunately, although several agents and protocols have been proposed, no prophylactic strategies have yet to be proven useful. Therefore, new alternative therapies have been considered for CIPN prevention. Herbal medicine in Japan, called Kampo medicine, is derived from traditional Chinese medicine. Goshajinkigan （GJG） is a Kampo medicine, that is comprised of ten herbs. The aim of this work is to analyse the results of pre-clinical and clinical studies on the potential applications of GJG in CIPN prevention.

Calculations of point defect energetics with Density Functional Theory(DFT)can provide valuable insight into several optoelectronic,thermodynamic,and kinetic *** calculations commonly use methods ranging from semi-local functionals with a-posteriori corrections to more computationally intensive hybrid functional *** applications of DFT-based high-throughput computation for data-driven materials discovery,point defect properties are of interest,yet are currently excluded from available materials *** work presents a benchmark analysis of automated,semi-local point defect calculations with a-posteriori corrections,compared to 245“gold standard”hybrid calculations previously *** consider three different a-posteriori correction sets implemented in an automated workflow,and evaluate the qualitative and quantitative differences among four different categories of defect information:thermodynamic transition levels,formation energies,Fermi levels,and dopability *** highlight qualitative information that can be extracted from high-throughput calculations based on semi-local DFT methods,while also demonstrating the limits of quantitative accuracy.
