Molecular dynamics of amorphous pharmaceutical fenofibrate studied by broadband dielectric spectroscopy

Fenofibrate is mainly used to reduce cholesterol level in patients at risk of cardiovascular disease. Thermal transition study with the help of differential scanning calorimetry （DSC） shows that the aforesaid active pharmaceutical ingredient （API） is a good glass former. Based on our DSC study, the molecular dynamics of this API has been carried out by broadband dielectric spectroscopy （BDS） covering wide temperature and frequency ranges. Dielectric measurements of amorphous fenofibrate were per- formed after its vitrification by fast cooling from a few degrees above the melting point （Tm=354.11 K） to deep glassy state. The sample does not show any crystallization tendency during cooling and reaches the glassy state. The temperature dependence of the structural relaxation has been fitted by single Vogel- Fulcher-Tamman （VFT） equation. From VFT fit, glass transition temperature （Tg） was estimated as 250.56 K and fragility （m） was determined as 94.02. This drug is classified as a fragile glass former. Deviations of experimental data from Kohlrausch-Williams-Watts （KWW） fits on high-frequency flank of α-peak indicate the presence of an excess wing in fenofibrate. Based on ngai＇s coupling model, we identified the excess wing as true Johari-Goldstein （JG） process. Below the glass transition temperature one can clearly see a secondary relaxation （γ） with an activation energy of 32.67 kJ/mol.

The giant magnetoresistive（MR） effect was investigated in a simple Fe/Si O2/p-Si-hybrid-structure-based device from two back-to-back Schottky diodes. The effect was revealed only under the non-equilibrium conditions caused by optical radiation. It is demonstrated that the magnetoresistance ratio attains 100 or more. The main peculiarity of the MR behavior is its strong dependence on the magnitude and the sign of the bias current across the device and, most surprisingly, upon polarity of the magnetic field. It is important that the magnetoresistive effect is implemented exclusively in the subsystem of minority charge carriers transferred to the non-equilibrium states. The development of magneto-sensitive devices of this type can give grounds for a novel direction of semiconductor spintronics.

Simulation of erosion-deposition processes at basin scale by a physically-based mathematical model

The development and application of the physically-based and spatially-distributed mathematical model CTSS8-SED is presented. The model simulates hydrologic-hydraulic processes produced by storm events and related soil erosion and sediment transport processes at basin scale in lowland areas. The model simulates (i) storm runoff,(ii) soil detachment by raindrop impact and overland flow (gross sediment yield),(iii) sediment transport by overland flow and associated erosion-deposition processes and (iv) sediment transport by stream flow and riverbed erosion-deposition processes. A quasi two-dimensional representation of water flow and sediment transport routing is made by means of interconnected cells approach. The model is applied to simulate two flooding events in the Luduea Creek basin (Santa Fe, Argentina) occurred in April 1994 and March 2007 due to extraordinary rainfalls.

Pancreas preserving distal duodenectomy: A versatile operation for a range of infra-papillary pathologies

To investigate the range of pathologies treated by pancreas preserving distal duodenectomy (PPDD) and present the outcome of *** lesions of the duodenum are treated conventionally by pancreaticoduodenectomy. Lesions distal to the major papilla may be suitable for a pancreas-preserving distal duodenectomy, potentially reducing morbidity and mortality. We present our experience with this procedure. Selective intraoperative duodenoscopy assessed the relationship of the papilla to the lesion. After duodenal mobilisation and confirmation of the site of the lesion, the duodenum was transected distal to the papilla and beyond the duodenojejunal flexure and a side-to-side duodeno-jejunal anastomosis was formed. Patients were identified from a prospectively maintained database and outcomes determined from digital health records with a dataset including demographics, co-morbidities, mode of presentation, preoperative imaging and assessment, nutritional support needs, technical operative details, blood transfusion requirements, length of stay, pathology including lymph node yield and lymph node involvement, length of follow-up, complications and outcomes. Related published literature was also ***-four patients had surgery with the intent of performing PPDD from 2003 to 2016. nineteen underwent PPDD successfully. Two patients planned for PPDD proceeded to formal pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) while three had unresectable disease. Median post-operative follow-up was 32 mo. Pathologies resected included duodenal adenocarcinoma (n = 6), adenomas (n = 5), gastrointestinal stromal tumours (n = 4) and lipoma, bleeding duodenal diverticulum, locally advanced colonic adenocarcinoma and extrinsic compression (n = 1 each). Median postoperative length of stay (LOS) was 8 d and morbidity was low [pain and nausea/vomiting (n = 2), anastomotic stricture (n = 1), pneumonia (n = 1), and overwhelming post-splenectomy sepsis (n = 1, asplenic patient)]. The paper deals with the development of an empirical model to compute the return flow due to the movement of navigation traffics in restricted waterway when the speed of the navigation traffic is under sub-critical range. The velocity profile of the return flow is modelled, where the functional dependence with respect to ambient flow, principal dimensions of the vessel, wetted cross-sectional area of the river, width and average depth of the river, and the lateral distance of the vessel from the bank are implicitly considered. This model has been validated with the observed data collected from the four specific sites, such as Kampsville, Apple River Island, Goose Island and Clarks Ferry of Illinois River during barge-tow movement. The present model shows significant improvement of return flow prediction in comparison to earlier empirical results. This model has also the ability to determine the locus of zero velocity point.

Characterizing downwind drift deposition of aerially applied glyphosate using RbCl as tracer

Rubidium chloride(RbCl)was used as a tracer tank-mixed with active ingredients to profile downwind deposition of aerially applied crop protection and production materials to characterize off-target drift,which helps improve spray efficiency and reduce environmental *** sheets were placed on a holder in the field at each sampling station to collect sprayed *** tracer was used to assess downwind drift of nozzles mounted on the booms installed and controlled on both sides of an agricultural *** experiment was conducted on a field covered by Bermuda grass(Cynodon dactylon).During the experiment,the airplane was planned to fly three passes with three replications at each of three different altitudes,3.7 m,4.9 m,and 6.1 m for total of 27 flight *** results indicated that sampling station location had a significant effect on RbCl ***,application release altitude was not significant to the change of *** practical application in the same aerial application system was used to assess crop injury from the off-target drift of aerially applied *** concentrations measured from Mylar sheets were correlated with visual injury,plant height,shoot dry weight,leaf chlorophyll content,and shikimate,which were measured from the leaves and plant samples ***,RbCl is an effective tracer for monitoring spray applications from agricultural aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles to intensify agriculture output and minimize environmental impact.

We isolated an interesting fungus from dead leaves of Magnolia liliifera collected from Chiang Mai,*** novel strain is related to Plectosphaer-ellaceae based on the morphology of its asexual morph and the analysis of sequence *** analyses using a combined gene analysis of LSU and ITS sequence data showed that this strain is clustered in the same clade with Furcasterigmium furcatum with high statistical *** new strains produced the asexual morph in culture which is morphologically similar to ***,we identified this strain as the sexual morph of *** is the first record of sexual morph for the monotypic genus Furcasterigmium and the first record of this genus on Magnolia.

Contribution of TLR signaling to the pathogenesis of colitisassociated cancer in inflammatory bowel disease

In the intestine a balance between proinflammatory and repair signals of the immune system is essential for the maintenance of intestinal homeostasis. The innate immunity ensures a primary host response to microbial invasion, which induces an inflammatory process to localize the infection and prevent systemic dissemination of pathogens. The key elements of this process are the germline encoded pattern recognition receptors including Toll-like receptors (TLRs). If pathogens cannot be eliminated, they may elicit chronic inflammation, which may be partly mediated via TLRs. Additionally, chronic inflammation has long been suggested to trigger tissue tumorous transformation. Inflammation, the seventh hallmark of cancer, may affect all phases of tumor development, and evade the immune system. Inflammation acts as a cellular stressor and may trigger DnA damage or genetic instability. Furthermore, chronic inflammation can provoke genetic mutations and epigenetic mechanisms that promote malignant cell transformation. Colorectal cancers in inflammatory bowel disease patients are considered typical examples of inflammation-related cancers. Although data regarding the role of TLRs in the pathomechanism of cancer-associated colitis are rather conflicting, functionally these molecules can be classified as ”largely antitumorigenic” and ”largely pro-tumorigenic” with the caveat that the underlying signaling pathways are mainly context (i.e., organ-, tissue-, cell-) and ligand-dependent.
