Azithromycin(AZT)is a broad-spectrum antibiotic from the group of macrolides that acts against several Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria,which has promoted its use in the treatment of different respiratory and sexually transmitted ***,its presence in environmental matrices and in the effluents of conventional wastewater treatment plants has been evidenced in recent years,which reflects the need to develop new treatment alternatives that allow its total removal and minimize the eventual adverse effects,selection of resistant bacterial strains,associated with its presence in water *** sunlight radiation and H2O2 were used to remove AZT from water assessing the effects of operational parameters like the solution initial pH and the peroxide *** indicate that hydroxyl free radical is the main responsible for pollutant removal but acidic solution conditions and larger H2O2 doses negatively affect OHgeneration under the evaluated experimental *** removal was almost complete after 120 min of *** addition,reduction of the organic carbon content in the treated samples was^50.0%;and a significant increase of nitrates concentration in solution was evidenced.

The critical nitrogen dilution curve (CNDC) can be used as a diagnostic tool to assess crop N nutrition during the growing season. Potato cultivars have different biomass production and accumulation of N and consequently different growth patterns. These differences among cultivars may result in different CNDC. The aims were a) to determine the CNDC for different potato cultivars;b) to compare these curves with reference curves;and c) to assess the possibility of using the CNDC to estimate the N nutritional status of the crop. The biomass production and N concentration of shoots and tubers of potato cultivars Innovator, Gem Russet, Umatilla Russet, Bannock Russet and Markies Russet were measured. The harvest index (HI) and N harvest index (NHI) were determined. The coefficient a of the CNDC was similar among cultivars, while the coefficients b for Innovator and Gem Russet (-0.42 and -0.36, respectively) were smaller than those for the other cultivars (average -0.25). HI and NHI were greater in Innovator, smaller in Markies Russet, and intermediated in the other three cultivars. The coefficients b of the CNDC were correlated with HI and NHI (HI, r = -0.62, p < 0.0001 and -0.53, p < 0.0001;NHI, r = -0.60, p < 0.0001 and -0.61, p < 0.0001 for 2004/5 and 2005/6, respectively). The relationship between relative tuber yield (RY) and N nutrition index (NNI) was fit by a quadratic-plateau function. At similar situations of N deficiency, Innovator had lower yield and greater response to N rate than the other potato cultivars. The differences in HI and NHI among cultivars may explain the differences in the coefficient b of the CNDC. The NNI identified the status of N adequately in potato cultivars.

Various post-harvest processes of rice are commonly employed,especially during the off-season,to ensure its consumption feasibility,which often affect the grain *** forms of drying,storage and processing of rice are evaluated to identify their effects on grain *** drying has emerged as an alternative to the widely-used intermittent-drying and fixed-bed-dryer methods of drying paddy *** of drying-air temperatures(between 40℃ and 60℃)according to the rice variety can improve quality,especially for exotic *** stored grain in hygroscopic balance,with water content between 11%to 15%,at temperatures between 16℃ and 20℃ and with intergranular relative humidity near 60%,allows 12 months of storage in a controlled environment without significant *** innovations,notably the application of artificial refrigeration to grain stored in bulk in vertical cylindrical silos and the use of impermeable packaging for storage,ensure the conservation of grain *** different stages and equipments used to obtain polished,brown and parboiled rice result in significant changes in the nutritional value of rice because of the removal of the outermost layers of the *** reduces the nutritional value and physical homogeneity of *** rice retains more bioactive compounds and nutrients because it does not lose the outer layer of the grains in the polishing *** rice,although less nutritious than brown rice,has better grain integrity and milling yield and less loss of nutrients than white rice.

A study was conducted to evaluate the aboveground biomass, nutrient content and the percentages of mycorrhizal colonization in Eucalyptus camaldulensis and Eucalyptus grand＆ plantations in the semiarid region （ 15° 09′ S 43° 49′ W） in the north of the State of Minas Gerais in Brazil. Results show that the total above-ground biomass （dry matter） was 33.6 ***^-1 for E. camaldulensis and 53.1 Mg·ha^-1 for E. grandis. The biomass of the stem wood, leaves, branches, and stein bark for E. camaldulens accounted for 64.4%, 19.6%, 15.4%, and 0.6% of the total biomass, respectively （Table 2）; meanwhile a similar partition of the total above-ground biomass was also found for E. grand＆. The dry matter of leaves and branches of E. camaldulensis accounted for 35% of total biomass, and the contents of N, P, K, Ca, Mg, and S in leaves and branches accounted for 15.5%, 0.7%, 12.3%, 22.6%, 1.9%, and 1.4% of those in total above-ground biomass, respectively. In the trunk （bark and wood）, nutrient accumulation in general was lower. Nutrient content of E. grand＆ presented little variation compared with that orE. camaJd^llensis. Wood localized in superior parts of trunk presented a higher concentration of P and bark contained significant amounts of nutrients, especially in E. grand＆. This indicated that leaving vegetal waste is of importance on the site in reducing the loss of tree productivity in this semi-arid region. The two species showed mycotrophy.

Individual tree models(ITMs)are classified as growth and production models for projecting current and future forest *** are more complex than other growth and production models,show a higher level of detail and,consequently,produce a better modeling ***,the accuracy and efficiency of ITMs have not been properly assessed to *** this study,we estimated the growth in height,diameter,and individual tree volume of a Eucalyptus urophylla plantation by applying an *** used a continuing forest inventory dataset in which 1554 individual trees within 29 permanent plots were measured in the field over a 6-year period(24 to 72 months).Each individual tree volume was estimated for future tree *** achieve this,we adjusted the model to predict the height and diameter growth,and the probability of mortality as a function of the competition *** ITM accuracy was assessed based on the analysis of variance results and,subsequently,the multiple mean comparison test at the 5%significance *** tree volumes predicted by the ITM for the forest stand aged 72 months,beginning at ages 24,36,48,and 60 months,were compared to the field measured tree volume acquired from the 72-month forest inventory that was used as the reference *** and observed tree volumes were similar when the estimation was based on the 48-month forest *** results might help to reduce financial costs of forest inventory because the ITM produces accurate future predictions of forest stand *** estimated ITM for Eucalyptus plantations using measurement intervals up to 2 years is recommended because it significantly reduced the projected volume discrepancy compared to the field measurements.

AIM： To evaluate bacteriocinogeny in short-term highdose indomethacin administration with or without probiotic Escherichia coli Nissle 1917 （EcN） in experimental ***： Twenty-four pigs entered the study： Group A （controls）, Group B （probiotics alone）, Group C （indomethacin alone） and Group D （probiotics and indomethacin）. EcN （3.5 × 10^10 bacteria/d for 14 d） and/or indomethacin （15 mg/kg per day for 10 d） were administrated orally. Anal smears before and smears from the small and large intestine were taken from all animals. Bacteriocin production was determined with 6 different indicator strains; all strains were polymerase chain reaction tested for the presence of 29 individual bacteriocinencoding determinants. RESULTS： The general microbiota profile was rather uniform in all animals but there was a broad diversity in coliform bacteria （parallel genotypes A, B1, B2 and D found）. In total, 637 bacterial strains were tested, mostly Escherichia coli （E. coli. There was a higher incidence of non-E：, coli strains among samples taken from the jejunum and ileum compared to that of the colon and rectum indicating predominance of E. coil strains in the large intestine. Bacteriocinogeny was found in 24/77 （31%） before and in 155/560 （28%） isolated bacteria at the end of the study. Altogether, 13 individual bacteriocin types （out of 29 tested） were identified among investigated strains. Incidence of four E. coli genotypes was equally distributed in all groups of E. coil strains, with majority of genotype A （ranging from 81% to 88%）. The following types of bacteriocins were most commonly revealed： colicins Ia/Ib （44%）, microcin V （18%）, colicin E1 （16%） and microcin H47 （6%）. There was a difference in bacteriocinogeny between control group A （52/149, 35%） and groups with treatment at the end of the study： B： 31/122 （25%, P = 0.120）; C： 43/155 （28%, P = 0.222）; D： 29/134 （22%, P = 0.020）. The shortage of individuals with the abilities to perform a job position successfully demands innovative educational approaches. Competency Based Education (CBE) is a methodology that focuses on endowing students with the skills demanded by the in-dustries and evaluates them regarding what they are able to do. A bank of competen-cies that students must acquire in a university academic program was discussed. Occupational trends as well as associated skills demands were detected. This research could be a source of practical knowledge for those organizations seeking to understand CBE foundations and for those wishing to initiate their path through this global educational trend.

Strigula sensu lato has been previously defined based on phenotype characters as a rather broad genus including tropical to temperate species growing on a wide array of *** this study,based on a multilocus phylogenetic approach,we show that foliicolous species form six well-delimited clades that correlate with diagnostic phenotype features,including thallus morphology,carbonization of the involucrellum and excipulum,ascospore dimensions,and type of *** the topology,with five of the six clades emerging on long stem branches,and the strong phenotypical differentiation between the clades,we recognize these at the genus level,making mostly use of previously established genus *** genera,namely Phylloporis,Puiggariella,Raciborskiella,and Racoplaca,are resurrected for the ***,***,***,and *** groups,respectively,whereas one new genus,Serusiauxiella ***.,is introduced for a novel lineage with peculiar *** only sequenced non-foliicolous species,***,is not closely related to these six foliicolous lineages but clusters with Flavobathelium and Phyllobathelium,revealing it as an additional undescribed genus-level lineage being treated *** the new genus Serusiauxiella,three new species are described:Serusiauxiella filifera ***.,*** ***.,and *** *** addition,ten new combinations are proposed:Phylloporis austropunctata ***.,*** ***.,*** ***.,Puiggariella confluens *** ***.,*** ***.,*** ***.,Racoplaca maculata ***.,*** ***.,***,and *** *** also report on a peculiar,previously unrecognized growth behaviour of the macroconidial appendages in Strigula ***.
