In mammals, spinal cord injury (SCI) is a devastating event that can lead to a permanent loss of motor, sensory and autonomic functions below the site of injury. In the last years, the role of different neurotransmitter systems on regeneration and recovery from SCI has been deciphered. For example, studies in lampreys have shown that neurotransmitters play a key role in modulating the survival and regeneration of brainstem descending neurons after SCI (Romaus-Sanjurjo et al., 2018;Sobrido-Camean et al., 2018).

Traumatic brain injury （TBI） is a mechanical injury to brain tissue that leads to an impairment of function and a broad spectrum of symptoms and disabilities; often, it is followed by diffuse axonal injury, which causes denaturation of the white matter and axon retraction, leaving patients with severe brain damage or even in a persistent vegetative state.

Blaptica dubia(Serville, 1838) and B. interior Hebard, 1921 were considered to be cryptic species. The characteristics originally proposed for their identification are not *** the relationship between the two species should be re-considered. As a comparative approach and to analyze intraspecific variability, morphological and morphometric methods were performed. Traditional and new characters such as wing shape and pronotum contour were utilized. We found significant differences between both species(p <0.05) in the shape of the wing, but there was an overlap of values. We did not find differences in the body measurements or in the shape and size of the pronotum between the species. The variability gradient does not allow an accurate identification of species neither with the male genitalia or the pronotal *** on the obtained results, B. interior Hebard 1921 is considered to be a junior synonym of B. dubia(Serville, 1838).

The nature of the binding site(s) involved in the insulin secretory activity of imidazoline compo- unds remains unclear. An imidazoline I2 binding site (I2BS) has been neglected since the classic I2 ligand, idazoxan, does not release insulin. Using the rabbit as an appropriate model for the study of this type of binding sites, we have tried to re-evaluate the effects of idazoxan, the selective I2 compound BU 224, and efaroxan on insulin secretion. Mimicking efaroxan, idazoxan and BU 224 potentiated insulin release from perifused islets in the presence of 8 mM glucose. In static incubation, insulin secretion induced by idazoxan and BU 224 exhibited both dose and glucose dependencies. ATP-sensitive K+ (KATP) channel blockade, though at a different site from the SUR1 receptor, with subsequent Ca2+ entry, mediates the insulin releasing effect of the three ligands. However, additional MAO independent intracellular steps in stimulus- secretion coupling linked to PKA and PKC activation are only involved in the effect of BU 224. Therefore, both an I2 related binding site at the channel level shared by the three ligands and a putative I3-intracellularly located binding site stimulated by BU 224 would be mediating insulin release by these compounds. In vivo experiments reassess the abilities of idazoxan and BU 224 to enhance glucose-induced insulin secretion and to elicit a modest blood glucose lowering response.

A 33-year-old woman who presented with epigastric discomfort and diarrhea underwent an abdominal ultrasound(US).This investigation and subsequent contrastenhanced computed tomography,magnetic resonance imaging and endoscopic US with fine needle aspiration (FNA)revealed a 40 mm well-circumscribed mass in the uncinate process of the *** were suggestive of a mucinous or solid-cystic pseudopapillary tumor of the pancreas,although other lesions such as a nonfunctioning neuroendocrine tumor could not be ruled *** samples were negative for malignant cells,but of limited value due to poor *** was decided to surgically remove the tumor because malignancy could not be *** intraoperative biopsies were suggestive of mesenchymal tumor and consequently a conservative resection(uncinatectomy)was performed. AIM： To evaluate the relationship between leptin and systemic inflammation in acute pancreatitis. METHODS： Consecutive patients with acute pancreatitis were included. Body mass index and serum samples were obtained at admission. Leptin, TNF-α, IL-6, -8 and -10 levels were determined by ELISA. Severity was defined according to Atlanta criteria. RESULTS： Fifty-two （29 females） patients were studied. Overall body mass index was similar between mild and severe cases, although women with severe pancreatitis had lower body mass index （P = 0.04） and men showed higher body mass index （P = 0.05）. No difference was found in leptin levels regarding the severity of pancreatitis, but higher levels tended to appear in male patients with increased body mass index and severe pancreatitis （P = 0.1）. A multivariate analysis showed no association between leptin levels and severity. The strongest cytokine associated with severity was IL-6. Correlations of leptin with another cytokines only showed a trend for IL-8 （P = 0.058）. CONCLUSION： High body mass index was associated with severity only in males, which may be related to android fat distribution. Serum leptin seems not to play a role on the systemic inflammatory response in acute pancreatitis and its association with severe outcome in males might represent a marker of increased adiposity.

Aims/Introduction: Effectiveness of Diamel? on the biochemical variables: fasting blood glucose, postprandial glucose, cholesterol, triglycerides, and glycosylated haemoglobin [HbA1c] in type-2 diabetic patients receiving insulin terapy. Diamel is a natural product composed of trace elements: amino acids, vitamins, cranberry extract, and lettuce extract that have been activated by means of a magnetization process. Materials and methods: Randomized, doubleblind, comparator-controlled clinical trial. A central randomization centre used computer generated tables to allocate treatments. 116 patients suffering from type-2 diabetes mellitus treated with insulin at the Diabetes Care Centre in Pinar del Rio (Cuba), were recruited and randomly. The subjects were separated into two groups: Group A (n = 59), who were administered Diamel and Group B (n = 57) using placebo. The clinical and biochemical variables were assessed for 24 weeks. Results: Two subjects were excluded from the Diamel treatment group during the clinical trial. From the statistical point of view, a significant drop in the levels of the baseline glucose, postprandial glucose, glycated haemoglobin, and triglycerides was observed in the group taking Diamel (Group A). There was observed an increase in insulin requirements and in waist circumference in the subjects of Group B There was not reported any severe or serious adverse reactions during this clinical trial. Conclusion: Diamel (nutritional supplement) together with the administration of insulin in type-2 diabetic patients is useful to optimize the biochemical variables (baseline and postprandial glucose, Hb A1C, plus triglycerides), as well as to prevent the increase of insulin requirements at medium-term.
