Pancreatic adenosquamous carcinoma and intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm in a CDKN2A germline mutation carrier

A 69-year-old woman from a kindred with familial atypical multiple mole melanoma and carrier of a germline mutation in CDKN2A, presented with abdominal pain caused by a solid-cystic pancreatic mass. The patient had an abdominal computed tomography three years before in which there was no evidence of pancreatic lesion. The endoscopic ultrasound guided fine needle aspiration showed adenocarcinoma with squamous component. After surgical resection the final diagnosis was adenosquamous pancreatic carcinoma(ASPC) arising in an intraductal papillar mucinous neoplasm(IPMN). Adenosquamous carcinomas are uncommon in the pancreas and have rarely been described in association with IPMNs. It has worse prognosis than the ordinary pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma and some distinct features. We review the clinical, imaging, pathologic and molecular aspects of ASPC. Differential diagnosis with contamination, squamous metaplasia and pancreatic metastases from a distant squamous carcinoma is discussed. Besides, the case is an accelerated model of the adenoma(IPMN)-carcinoma sequence probably due to the CDKN2A ger-mline mutation. Somatic CDKN2A mutations are commonevents in the early steps of sporadic pancreatic cancer, but germline mutation carriers have a significantly higher risk of pancreatic carcinoma.

Epidermal Barrier integrity is deteriorated in many skin conditions, including Atopic dermatitis, and could be responsible for many of the associated clinical symptoms. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of REPAVAR ATOPIC SKIN BODY CREAM EXTREME, product containing “SKIN CALM COMPLEX” on barrier epidermis structure. Morphologic and structural evaluations were conducted on reconstructed human epidermis, by qualitative (hematoxylin/eosin- and immune-staining) and quantitative (MTT assay) techniques. Immature (Age Day 10) and mature (Day 17) sample tissues were treated with the product for 24 hours or 7 days, respectively. Morphological and quantitative analysis revealed an increase in the thickness of the epidermis in both cases after the treatment. The study by immunostaining showed that Product-treated tissues presented excellent localization of: 1) E-cadherin in keratinocytes of the spinous layer;2) Filaggrin and Loricrin, in the granular layer;and 3) increased expression of Involucrin and Keratin 10 in suprabasal layers and 4) elevated expression of Keratin 5 in the basal layer of the epidermis. The product REPAVAR ATOPIC SKIN BODY CREAM EXTREME increases the epithelial regeneration and differentiation determined by cell proliferation and the expression and localization of specific proteins, improving the epidermal barrier effect.

Background: Predictive models shed light on aboveground fungal yield dynamics and can assist decision-making in forestry by integrating this valuable non-wood forest product into forest management planning. However, the currently existing models are based on rather local data and, thus, there is a lack of predictive tools to monitor mushroom yields on larger ***: This work presents the first empirical models for predicting the annual yields of ectomycorrhizal mushrooms and related ecosystem services in Pinus sylvestris and Pinus pinaster stands in northern Spain, using a long-term dataset suitable to account for the combined effect of meteorological conditions and stand *** were fitted for the following groups of fungi separately: all ectomycorrhizal mushrooms, edible mushrooms and marketed mushrooms. Our results show the influence of the weather variables(mainly precipitation) on mushroom yields as well as the relevance of the basal area of the forest stand that follows a right-skewed unimodal curve with maximum predicted yields at stand basal areas of 30–40 m2·***: These models are the first empirical models for predicting the annual yields of ectomycorrhizal mushrooms in Pinus sylvestris and Pinus pinaster stands in northern Spain, being of the highest resolution developed to date and enable predictions of mushrooms productivity by taking into account weather conditions and forests’ location, composition and structure.

This review focuses on new findings about the inflammatory status involved in the development of human liver cirrhosis induced by the two main causes, hepatitis C virus(HCV) infection and chronic alcohol abuse, avoiding results obtained from animal models. When liver is faced to a persistent and/or intense local damage the maintained inflammatory response gives rise to a progressive replacement of normal hepatic tissue by non-functional fibrotic scar. The imbalance between tissue regeneration and fibrosis will determine the outcome toward health recovery or hepatic cirrhosis. In all cases progression toward liver cirrhosis is caused by a dysregulation of mechanisms that govern the balance between activation/homeostasis of the immune system. detecting differences between the inflammatory status in HCV-induced vs alcoholinduced cirrhosis could be useful to identify specific targets for preventive and therapeutic intervention in each case. Thus, although survival of patients with alcoholic cirrhosis seems to be similar to that of patients with HCV-related cirrhosis(HCV-C), there are important differences in the altered cellular and molecular mechanisms implicated in the progression toward human liver cirrhosis. The predominant features of HCV-C are more related with those that allow viral evasion of the immune defenses, especially although not exclusively, inhibition of interferons secretion, natural killer cells activation and T cell-mediated cytotoxicity. On the contrary, the inflammatory status of alcohol-induced cirrhosis is determined by the combined effect of direct hepatotoxicity of ethanol metabolites and increases of the intestinal permeability, allowing bacteria and bacterial products translocation, into the portal circulation, mesenteric lymph nodes and peritoneal cavity. The present work reports the discovery and the complete characterisation of an ancient cultivated rose variety found growing in a private garden in the southwest of the Principality of Asturias(northern Spain).The variety is here given the name *** majority of roses currently cultivated belong to the so-called group of‘Modern Roses’,all of which were obtained after 1867 via artificial crosses and improvement *** are destined for ornamental *** the 19th century,the great majority of the many ancient cultivated roses in Europe were used in perfumery and cosmetics,or had medicinal *** damascena and Rosa centifollia are still grown and used by the French and Bulgarian perfume *** Asturian Massif of the Cantabrian Mountain Range provides a natural habitat for some 75%of the wild members of the genus Rosa,but until now there was no evidence that this area was home to ancient cultivated roses.A complete botanical description is here provided for a discovered ancient *** is also characterised according to a series of sequence tagged microsatellite sites,and its agronomic features are *** addition,a histological description(optical and scanning electronic microscope studies)of the petals is offered,along with an analysis of the volatile compounds present in these organs as determined by solid phase microextraction and gas chromatography-mass *** results reveal the uniqueness of this ancient type of rose and suggest it may be of interest to the perfume industry.

As a consequence of the habituation to low levels of dichlobenil （DCB）, cultured maize cells presented an altered hemicellulose cell fate with a lower proportion of strongly wall-bound hemicelluloses and an increase in soluble extracellular polymers released into the culture medium. The aim of this study was to investigate the relative molecular mass distributions of polysaccharides as well as phenolic metabolism in cells habituated to low levels of DCB （1.5 μM）. Generally, cell wall bound hemicelluloses and sloughed polymers from habituated cells were more homogeneously sized and had a lower weight-average relative molecular mass. In addition, polysaccharides underwent massive cross-linking after being secreted into the cell wall, but this cross-linking was less pronounced in habituated cells than in non-habituated ones. However, when relativized, ferulic acid and p-coumaric acid contents were higher in this habituated cell line. Feasibly, cells habituated to low levels of DCB synthesized molecules with a lower weight-average relative molecular mass, although cross-linked, as a part of their strategy to compensate for the lack of cellulose.
