In recent years,growing awareness of the role of oxidative stress in brain health has prompted antioxidants,especially dietary antioxidants,to receive growing attention as possible treatments strategies for patients with neurodegenerative diseases(NDs).The most widely studied dietary antioxidants include active substances such as vitamins,carotenoids,flavonoids and *** antioxidants are found in usually consumed foods such as fresh fruits,vegetables,nuts and oils and are gaining popularity due to recently growing awareness of their potential for preventive and protective agents against NDs,as well as their abundant natural sources,generally non-toxic nature,and ease of long-term *** review article examines the role of oxidative stress in the development of NDs,explores the‘two-sidedness’of the blood-brain barrier(BBB)as a protective barrier to the nervous system and an impeding barrier to the use of antioxidants as drug medicinal products and/or dietary antioxidants supplements for prevention and therapy and reviews the BBB permeability of common dietary antioxidant suplements and their potential efficacy in the prevention and treatment of ***,current challenges and future directions for the prevention and treatment of NDs using dietary antioxidants are discussed,and useful information on the prevention and treatment of NDs is provided.

Multiple responses optimization in the development of a headspace gas chromatography method for the determination of residual solvents in pharmaceuticals

An efficient generic static headspace gas chromatography （HSGC） method was developed, optimized and validated for the routine determination of several residual solvents （RS） in drug substance, using a strategy with two sets of calibration. Dimethylsulfoxide （DMSO） was selected as the sample diluent and internal standards were used to minimize signal variations due to the preparative step. A gas chroma- tograph from Agilent Model 6890 equipped with flame ionization detector （FID） and a DB-624 （30 m × 0.53 mm i.d., 3.00 μm film thickness） column was used. The inlet split ratio was 5：1. The influ- encing factors in the chromatographic separation of the analytes were determined through a fractional factorial experimental design. Significant variables： the initial temperature （IT）, the final temperature （FT） of the oven and the carrier gas flow rate （F） were optimized using a central composite design. Response transformation and desirability function were applied to find out the optimal combination of the chromatographic variables to achieve an adequate resolution of the analytes and short analysis time. These conditions were 30 ℃ for IT, 158 ℃ for FT and 1.90 mL/min for F. The method was proven to be accurate, linear in a wide range and very sensitive for the analyzed solvents through a comprehensive validation according to the ICH guidelines.

Gibberellins(GAs)play important roles in multiple developmental processes and in plant response to the *** the GA pathway,a central regulatory step relies on GA-dependent degradation of the DELLA transcriptional ***,the relevance of the stability of other key proteins in this pathway,such as SLY1 and SNE(the F-box proteins involved in DELLA degradation),remains ***,we take advantage of mutants in the HSP70-HSP90 organizing protein(HOP)co-chaperones and reveal that these proteins contribute to the accumulation of SNE in ***,HOP proteins,along with HSP90 and HSP70,interact in vivo with SNE,and SNE accumulation is significantly reduced in the hop ***,greater accumulation of the DELLA protein RGA is observed in these *** agreement with these molecular phenotypes,hop mutants show a hypersensitive response to the GA inhibitor paclobutrazol and display a partial response to the ectopic addition of GA when GA-regulated processes are *** mutants also display different phenotypes associated with alterations in the GA pathway,such as reduced germination rate,delayed bolting,and reduced hypocotyl elongation in response to warm ***,ectopic overexpression of SNE reverts the delay in germination and the thermally dependent hypocotyl elongation defect of the hop1 hop2 hop3 mutant,revealing that SNE accumulation is the key aspect of the hop mutant ***,these data reveal a pivotal role for HOP in SNE accumulation and GA signaling.

One of the biggest challenges in the biocompatibility of implantable metals is the prevention of the stress shielding effect,which is related to the coupling of the bone-metal mechanical *** stress shielding phenomenon provokes bone resorption and the consequent adverse effects on prosthesis ***,it can be inhibited by adapting the stiffness of the implant *** the use of titanium(Ti)porous structures is a great alternative not only to inhibit this effect but also to improve the osteointegration of orthopedic and dental implants,a brief description of the techniques used for their manufacturing and a review of the current commercialized implants produced from porous Ti assemblies are compiled in this *** powder metallurgy(PM)with space holder(SH)is a powerful technology used to produce porous Ti structures,it is here discussed its potential for the fabrication of medical devices from the perspectives of both design and *** most important parameters of the technique such as the size and shape of the initial metallic particles,the SH and binder type of materials,the compaction pressure of the green form,and in the sintering stage,the temperature,atmosphere,and time are reviewed according to the bibliography ***,the importance of the porosity and its types together with the influence of the mentioned parameters in the final porosity and,consequently,in the ultimate mechanical properties of the structure are ***,a few examples of the PM-SH application for the manufacturing of orthopedic implants are presented.

Optimized high performance liquid chromatography–ultraviolet detection method using core-shell particles for the therapeutic monitoring of methotrexate

Methotrexate （MTX） is an antineoplastic drug, and due to its high toxicity, the therapeutic drug mon- itoring is strictly conducted in the clinical practice. The chemometric optimization and validation of a high performance liquid chromatography （HPLC） method using core-shell particles is presented for the determination of MTX in plasma during therapeutic monitoring. Experimental design and response surface methodology （RSM） were applied for the optimization of the chromatographic system and the analyte extraction step. A Poroshel1120 EC-C18 （3.0 mm × 75 mm, 2.7 μm） column was used to obtain a fast and efficient separation in a complete run time of 4 min. The optimum conditions for the chroma- tographic system resulted in a mobile phase consisting of acetic acid/sodium acetate buffer solution （85.0 mM, pH =4.00） and 11.2% of acetonitrile at a flow rate of 0.4 mL/min. Selectivity, linearity, accuracy and precision were demonstrated in a range of 0.10-6.0 μM of MTX. The application of the optimized method required only 150μL of patient plasma and a low consumption of solvent to provide rapid re- sults.

Evaluation of ligninolytic activity in spent mushroom substrate from four cultivated mushrooms

Spent mushroom substrate(SMS)is an abundant residue generated by the mushroom industry,which is mostly *** this study,the SMS of four cultivated mushrooms were evaluated as potential sources of ligninolytic *** ostreatus,***,*** and Ganoderma lucidum were cultivated in two different substrates to determine growth,mushroom yields and ligninolytic activity of laccase(Lac)and manganese peroxidase(MnP).Maximum activities in the SMS were 3.731 U/g Lac and 0.191 U/g MnP,both for *** mushroom substrates were also analyzed,and higher activities were found in almost all samples.A correlation test between mushroom yields and ligninolytic activities of each culture was made,and we found that high enzymatic activity in the substrate did not result in high mushroom productivity or vice *** SMS was a good source of ligninolytic *** activity depended on the mushroom species and its affinity to the substrate,and it was not influenced by the mushroom *** of mushrooms in diverse lignocellulosic substrates is gaining interest,and ob-taining ligninolytic enzymes from residual SMS is an excellent alternative in the circular economy concept.

Contrasting climate drivers of seasonal growth in western vs. eastern Mexican mountain conifer forests

Hydroclimate affects the radial growth responses of trees, but the drivers of their spatial and population variability are not sufficiently understood. We addressed this issue by sampling several conifer populations located at the same latitude, but at different longitude and elevation in western(W) and eastern(E) Mexican regions. We used dendroecology to disentangle how earlywood width(EW), latewood width(LW) and adjusted LW(LWadj),i.e. the residuals after removing EW influences on LW, responded to climate variables(temperature and precipitation), climate indices(Southern Oscillation Index, SOI, Nino 3.4, Pacific Decadal Oscillation, PDO) and a drought index(Standardised Precipitation-Evapotranspiration Index, SPEI). The W species(Pinus herrerae martinez, Pinus durangensis martinez, Abies durangensis martínez and Cupressus lusitanica Mill.) showed lower growth rates than the E species(Pinus hartwegii Lindl., Picea mexicana martinez, Pseudotsuga menziesii(Mirb.) Franco and Abies vejari martinez). Growth in W benefits mostly from high precipitation in the prior winter and current spring and it is limited by high temperatures in spring, whereas growth in the E showed similar but weaker ***, positive(negative) correlations were found in radial growth with the Nino 3.4(SOI) and the PDO from the prior to current autumns, which were again stronger in absolute terms in the W than in the E regions,excepting SOI in summer. In the W, P. durangensis and C. lusitanica were the least and most responsive species to spring drought, respectively;whilst P. menziesii and A. vejari were very responsive to spring drought compared to P. hartwegii in the E. Our results suggest greater responsiveness to hydroclimate and atmospheric patterns in the W than in the E region. Impact of rutin and buckwheat(Fagopyrum esculentum)extract applications on the volatile and phenolic composition of wine
