Cellular automata model for traffic flow with safe driving conditions

In this paper, a recently introduced cellular automata （CA） model is used for a statistical analysis of the inner micro-scopic structure of synchronized traffic flow. The analysis focuses on the formation and dissolution of clusters or platoons of vehicles, as the mechanism that causes the presence of this synchronized traffic state with a high flow. This platoon formation is one of the most interesting phenomena observed in traffic flows and plays an important role both in manual and automated highway systems （AHS）. Simulation results, obtained from a single-lane system under periodic boundary conditions indicate that in the density region where the synchronized state is observed, most vehicles travel together in pla- toons with approximately the same speed and small spatial distances. The examination of velocity variations and individual vehicle gaps shows that the flow corresponding to the synchronized state is stable, safe and highly correlated. Moreover, results indicate that the observed platoon formation in real traffic is reproduced in simulations by the relation between vehicle headway and velocity that is embedded in the dynamics definition of the CA model.

Sludge Density prediction in a Wastewater Chemical Coagulation process

This paper reports an approach to estimate the sludge density in a physicochemical treatment of municipal wastewater, experiments considered 4 coagulants (aluminum sulfate SAl, iron sulfate SFe, aluminum polychloride pAX, iron polychloride pIX), and 2 flocculant products (cationic Cp and anionic Ap polymers). Experimental approach is based on running a set of jar tests at different coagulant concentrations. After the stirring and resting times took place, pH and conductivity were registered finding that SAl and SFe either with or without polymers are the coagulants producing the higher pH drop. Conductivity measures also establish two kind of data since higher conductivity (about 2000 ) was observed for SAl, and pIX, pIX + Cp, pIX + Ap;otherwise a conductivity about 1300 was observed for SAl + pC, SFe and pAX alone and with Cp or Ap. Settleable solids (SST) determined with an Imhoff cone were similar for sulfates and polychlorides, but dry sludge (DS) clearly set up two groups the one with higher sludge content corresponds to sulfates group. The quotient of DS divided by the SST provided an estimation of the apparent sludge density, in this way it was observed that higher densities were obtained for sludge from sulfates at lower coagulant concentrations;also sludge from SFe was heavier than the one from SAl. Otherwise, polychlorides produced a lighter sludge in respect to the one obtained with sulfates, and between them the pIX coagulant provided a heavier sludge than the pAX coagulant.

An analytical methodology based on an O-[2-(methacryloyloxy)-ethylcarbamoyl]-10,11-dihydroquinidine(MQD)-silica hybrid monolithic column was developed for the enantioseparation of 9-fluorenylmethoxycarbonyl(FMOC)derivatized amino acids by nano-liquid *** mobile phase was optimized including the apparent pH,content of ACN,and concentration of the buffer to obtain a satisfactory enantioresolution performance.27 FMOC derivatized amino acids including 19 protein and 8 non-protein amino acids were tested,and 19 out of them were enantiomerically discriminated obtaining baseline separation for 11 of *** characteristics of the method were evaluated for norvaline and tryptophan in terms of linearity,precision,accuracy,limits of detection(lOD)and quantitation(lOQ)showing good performance to be applied to the enantiomeric determination of these amino acids in dietary *** and lOQ values were 9.3 and 31 mM for norvaline enantiomers and 7.5 and 25 mM for tryptophan enantiomers,*** contents of D-norvaline and D-tryptophan were below their respective lODs in all the analyzed *** of l-tryptophan and l-norvaline showed good agreement with the labeled contents except for one sample which did not show presence of l-norvaline,contrary to the label indication.

Analysis of orthopedic surgical procedures in children with cerebral palsy

BACKGROUND Orthopedic surgery in children with cerebral palsy(Cp)aims to improve function and prevent *** child’s condition in Cp is unique and many covariables influence surgical decision-making including a patient's age and their functional *** is known about the frequency of different types of orthopedic surgery in children with Cp who have varied functional levels,particularly in countries from latin *** To assess the type of orthopedic surgical procedures in relation to age and gross motor function in children with *** This retrospective study included all children with Cp(n=245)treated with elective orthopedic surgery at a Uruguayan university hospital between October 2010 and May 2016 identified from a surgical *** children(7%)were lost to follow-up due to missing medical ***,gross motor function classification(GMFCS),and orthopedic surgeries were obtained from the medical records of 227 ***-squared tests and analysis of variance were used to assess the frequency of surgery,accounting for GMFCS *** age for soft tissue vs bone surgery was compared with the independent samples *** A total of 711 surgical procedures were performed between 1998 and *** average,children had 3.1 surgical procedures and the mean age at first surgery was 8.0 *** were no significant differences in age at first surgery among GMFCS levels(p=0.47).The most common procedures were lower leg soft tissue surgery(n=189,27%),hip tenotomy(n=135,19%),and hamstring tenotomy(n=104,14%).For children with GMFCS level Ⅰ,the mean number of surgeries per child[1.8(range 1-9)]differed significantly at pldren with GMFCS levels Ⅱ[3.2(1-12)],Ⅲ[3.2(1-8)],Ⅳ[3.3(1-13)],and Ⅴ[3.6(1-11)].Within Ⅱ,Ⅲ,Ⅳ,and Ⅴ,there was no significant difference in mean number of surgeries per child when comparing across the *** proportion of soft tissue surgery vs bone surgery was higher in GMFCS levels Ⅰ-Ⅲ

Behavior of Arsenic and Fluoride Concentration in Guadiana Valley Aquifer of Durango, Mexico

Fluorine (F) and arsenic (As) are inorganic elements present in the subsurface depending on the geology of the region. These compounds are found in high concentrations in the underground strata of Guadiana Valley of Durango affecting water quality for human consumption (NOM-127-SSA-1994). In the present research the main objective was to assess the behavior in time and space of fluoride (F-) and arsenic concentration, from 1996 to date, in the groundwater of the city of Durango and some wells of the rural area as a reference. The highest concentration of arsenic was found in a rural well, Colonia Hidalgo (0.149 mg/l or ppm), 6 times the maximum permissible limit (Mpl);within the city well 54 located in the western sector had the highest value (0.076 ppm), 3 times the Mpl, 67% of the wells in the city and 60% of the Guadiana Valley had levels that exceeded the Mpl (0.025 ppm), the concentration in the city ranged from 0.009 to 0.149 ppm and from 0.08 to 0.15 ppm for the rural zone. With respect to F-, the highest value was also found in the Colonia Hidalgo well (17.8 mg/l), 12 times the Mpl;within the city the highest value was recorded in well 16 in the eastern sector with 7.6 ppm (5 times the Mpl) 97% of the wells in the city and 100% of the wells in the Guadiana Valley rural area had concentrations greater than Mpl (1.5 ppm), the concentration in the city ranged from 1.1 to 7.6 ppm, while in the Guadiana Valley from 1.7 to 17.8 ppm. Statistical analysis showed no significant difference for fluoride concentration over time (1996-2013);whereas the concentration of arsenic decreased, probably due to the degree of precision required for such small concentrations in groundwater and different analysts ran the samples.

Concentration of Fluoride and Arsenic in Bottled Drinking Water in Durango City, Mexico

Arsenic and fluoride are elements known to cause human health problems and it has been documented that both elements are found in high concentrations in the Guadiana Valley aquifer, in the state of Durango, Mexico. Since underground water is the source for potable water bottling companies commercialized in Durango City;such high concentrations reduced the quality of bottled water for human consumption according to NOM-041-SSA1-1993. legislation establishes a maximum permissible limit (Mpl) of 0.7 mg/l for fluoride and 0.025 mg/l for arsenic. In this research the main objective was to evaluate the quality of bottled water expended in Durango City with respect to the well from which water is extracted. Findings showed that the highest fluoride concentration was 5.86 mg/l (8.4 times Mpl), with 100% of sampled brands exceeding the Mpl (range: 1.09 to 5.86 mg/l). On the other hand, for arsenic, the highest concentration was 0.076 mg/l (threefold), with 38% exceeding the Mpl (range: 0.001 to 0.076 ppm). Statistical analysis showed significant differences only for fluoride, according to Fisher lSD (least Significant Difference) test, with an F value of 14.5 at a p value of 0.0005. According to the comparison between the quantified concentrations in bottled water and groundwater, it was found that groundwater was subjected to treatment;however, although a significant decrease in fluoride and arsenic concentration was observed, the removal processes used were not efficient to meet set standards.

Eutrophication levels through San pedro-Mezquital River Basin

This paper presents an eutrophication diagnosis for the San pedro-Mezquital basin at Mexico;procedure accounted to set up 10 sampling points distributed along the river pathway, sample collection was done at two extreme conditions: rainy season and dry season. Five parameters were analyzed in this work: pH, % Dissolved Oxygen, reactive phosphorus, and nitrogen species as nitrate and ammonia compounds. Obtained concentrations were statistically analyzed to establish if there were significant differences among sites and between seasons;being the dry season the one with higher nutrient content, ammonia can be considered statistical significance due to the total values found for each season. Calculation of the Karydis eutrophication index for each parameter showed that more damaged sites were those nearby the cities, and most of the sampled sites belonged to the eutrophic category.

COVID-19 generates systematic alterations in humans both in active stages of infection and over time, called post-COVID syndrome. Cortisol is a hormone that is overexpressed in inflammation and cellular stress processes. Its main function is to return to physiological homeostasis, so its evaluation together with other clinical parameters can allow us to determine the degree of systemic affectation by COVID-19. Objective: To evaluate changes in clinical parameters and plasma cortisol concentrations in patients with active COVID-19 and post-COVID syndrome. Material and Methods: Healthy patients, in stages of mild infection, critical and with post-COVID syndrome, were recruited, obtaining, through clinical diagnoses and interviews, their main clinical characteristics, in addition to plasma, in which cortisol concentrations were determined using competitive ElISA. Results: The critical stage group had higher frequencies of comorbidities, clinical symptoms, as well as more altered laboratory parameters compared to the other subgroups. In the post-COVID syndrome group after the initial infection, most laboratory parameters recovered, however, several clinical symptoms remained latent over time. The determination of cortisol showed an increase in its concentration, being higher in patients in critical stage and with post-COVID syndrome. Conclusion: COVID-19 disease generates clinical alterations that trigger an increase in plasma cortisol. These alterations increase as the stages of infection become more severe and some of them remain altered in patients with post-COVID syndrome.
