Comparative transcriptomics of Central Asian Vitis vinifera accessions reveals distinct defense strategies against powdery mildew

Grape powdery mildew(PM),caused by the biotrophic ascomycete Erysiphe necator,is a devastating fungal disease that affects most Vitis vinifera *** have previously identified a panel of *** accessions from Central Asia with partial resistance to PM that possess a Ren1-like local *** this study,we show that in addition to the typical Ren1-associated late post-penetration resistance,these accessions display a range of different levels of disease development suggesting that alternative alleles or additional genes contribute to determining the outcome of the interaction with the *** identify potential Ren1-dependent transcriptional responses and functions associated with the different levels of resistance,we sequenced and analyzed the transcriptomes of these Central Asian accessions at two time points of PM *** were compared to identify constitutive differences and PM-inducible responses that may underlie their disease resistant *** to *** in all resistant accessions were characterized by an early up-regulation of 13 genes,most encoding putative defense functions,and a late down-regulation of 32 genes,enriched in transcriptional regulators and protein *** Ren1-dependent responses included a hotspot of co-regulated genes on chromosome *** also identified 81 genes whose expression levels and dynamics correlated with the phenotypic differences between the most resistant accessions‘Karadzhandahal’,DVIT3351.27,and O34-16 and the other *** study provides a first exploration of the functions associated with varying levels of partial resistance to PM in *** accessions that can be exploited as sources of genetic resistance in grape breeding programs.

A longitudinal study in atypical Cri-du chat profile: A single case report

Background: Cri-du-Chat Syndrome (CdCS) is a rare genetic disorder characterized by a severe mental delay, minimal verbal abilities and severe learning difficulties. Methods: Here, we report two neuropsychological assessments of an Italian girl (FS) with CdCS who was affected by a moderate mental delay. The first assessment was made at 2.3 years and second at 6.5 years. Results: Her cognitive profile was characterized by a discrepancy between social-communicative and visual-motor skills. Specifically, her linguistic skills were better than her ability to copy a drawing or play with a set of building blocks. FS showed good lexical competence in both comprehension and production. Differently, her grammatical skills (i.e. comprehension and production) were somewhat defective. Conclusion: The FS’s case, due to her moderate mental delay and her preserved linguistic skills, allowed investigating some aspects of this syndrome never explored before.

BACKGROUND The pandemic outbreak of the novel coronavirus disease(COVID-19)has highlighted the need to combine rapid,non-invasive and widely accessible techniques with the least risk of patient’s cross-infection to achieve a successful early detection and surveillance of the *** this regard,the lung ultrasound(LUS)technique has been proved invaluable in both the differential diagnosis and the follow-up of COVID-19 patients,and its potential may be destined to ***,indeed,LUS has been empowered through the development of automated image processing *** To provide a systematic review of the application of artificial intelligence(AI)technology in medical LUS analysis of COVID-19 patients using the preferred reporting items of systematic reviews and meta-analysis(PRISMA)*** A literature search was performed for relevant studies published from march 2020-outbreak of the pandemic-to 30 September *** articles were included in the result synthesis of this *** As part of the review,we presented the main characteristics related to AI techniques,in particular deep learning(DL),adopted in the selected articles.A survey was carried out on the type of architectures used,availability of the source code,network weights and open access datasets,use of data augmentation,use of the transfer learning strategy,type of input data and training/test datasets,and *** Finally,this review highlighted the existing challenges,including the lack of large datasets of reliable COVID-19-based LUS images to test the effectiveness of DL methods and the ethical/regulatory issues associated with the adoption of automated systems in real clinical scenarios.

The use of flours or phenolic extracts obtained from non-traditional sources or agri-food industry by-products has been a strategy used to formulate new bakery products with characteristics of a functional ***,phenolic compounds present great structural diversity,as well as the ability to interact in a complex way with the macromolecules that constitute the bread ***,the addition of these flours,extracts or pure compounds produces various effects on the microstructure of bread,and several of its sensory *** is mainly due to interactions between phenolic compounds and gluten *** objective of this review is to analyze some of the most recent published works on the addition of phenolic compounds in wheat bread to identify the type of positive and negative effects that have been observed and how they can be related to the physicochemical interactions between phenolic compounds and the macromolecules that constitute the food matrix,mainly *** effect of monomeric and polymeric phenolic compounds on the strength of these interactions and on the properties of dough and bread are discussed.

Binary asymmetric nanocrystals （BNCs）, composed of a photoactive TiO2 nanorod joined with a superparamagnetic γ-Fe203 spherical domain, were embedded in polyethylene glycol modified phospholipid micelle and successfully bioconjugated to a suitably designed peptide containing an RGD motif. BNCs represent a relevant multifunctional nanomaterial, owing to the coexistence of two distinct domains in one particle, characterized by high photoactivity and magnetic properties, that is particularly suited for use as a phototherapy and hyperthermia agent as well as a magnetic probe in biological imaging. We selected the RGD motif in order to target integrin expressed on activated endothelial cells and several types of cancer cells. The prepared RGD-peptide/BNC conjugates, comprehensively monitored by using complementary optical and structural techniques, demon- strated a high stability and uniform dispersibility in biological media. The cytotoxicity of the RGD-peptide/BNC conjugates was studied in vitro. The cellular uptake of RGD-peptide conjugates in the cells, assessed by means of two distinct approaches, namely confocal microscopy analysis and emission spectroscopy determination in cell lysates, displayed selectivity of the RGD-peptide-BNC conjugate for the cw]33 integrin. These RGD-peptide-BNC conjugates have a high potential for theranostic treatment of cancer.

Background:COVID-19 caused by SARS-CoV-2 virus is characterized by respiratory compromise and immune system involvement,even leading to serious disorders,such as cytokine ***:We then conducted a literature review on the topic of sepsis and covid-19,and in parallel conducted an experimental study on the histological finding of patients who died from SARS-Covid 19 infection and a control ***:Sepsis associated with covid-19 infection has some similarities and differences from that from other ***:In this paper the complex interplay between the 2 disorders was discussed,focusing on the similarities and on the effect that one could have on the other.A preliminary experimental section that demonstrates the multisystemic involvement in subjects who die from SARS-CoV-2 is also proposed.
