Geomorphic indices and relative tectonic uplift in the Guerrero sector of the Mexican forearc

Tectonically active areas,such as forearc regions,commonly show contrasting relief,differential tectonic uplift,variations in erosion rates,in river incision,and in channel gradient produced by ongoing tectonic ***,information on the tectonic activity of a defined area could be derived via landscape *** study uses topography and geomorphic indices to extract signals of ongoing tectonic deformation along the Mexican subduction forearc within the Guerrero *** this purpose,we use field data,topographical data,knickpoints,the ratio of volume to area（Rva）.the stream-length gradient index（St）,and the normalized channel steepness index（k_（sn））.The results of the applied landscape analysis reveal considerable variations in relief,topography and geomorphic indices values along the Guerrero sector of the Mexican subduction *** argue that the reported differences are indicative of tectonic deformation and of variations in relative tectonic uplift along the studied forearc.A significant drop from central and eastern parts of the study area towards the west in values of R_（VA）（from ~500 to^300）,St（from ~500 to ca.400）,maximum St（from ~1500-2500 to ~ 1000） and k_（sn）（from ~150 to ~100） denotes a decrease in relative tectonic uplift in the same *** suggest that applied geomorphic indices values and forearc topography are independent of climate and *** mechanisms responsible for the observed variations and inferred changes in relative forearc tectonic uplift call for further studies that explain the physical processes that control the forearc along strike uplift variations and that determine the rates of *** proposed methodology and results obtained through this study could prove useful to scientists who study the geomorphology of forearc regions and active subduction zones.

Prognostic impact of inflammatory and nutritional biomarkers in pancreatic cancer

Pancreatic cancer is usually associated with a poor *** is the main curative treatment but pancreatic operations are aggressive and new tools that help clinicians to predict surgical and prognostic outcomes are *** et al recently published a retrospective,single centre cohort study evaluating the impact of seven nutritional and inflammatory markers in pancreatic cancer surgical patients:The albumin-to-globulin ratio,prognostic nutritional index(PnI),systemic immune-inflammation index(SII),neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio(nlR),platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio(PlR),nutritional risk index,and the geriatric nutritional risk index.A significant correlation was found between the PnI,SII,nlR,and PlR and a hospital discharge of less than 15 *** a univariable analysis,PnI,SII,nlR and PlR were significantly related to recurrence-free survival and,in a multivariable analysis PnI was associated with overall *** meta-analyses corroborate the results in terms of prognosis but individual studies are discordant on their ***,the cut-off values for these markers vary significantly between studies and there are no clinical trials comparing them to identify the most relevant *** are limitations when implementing nutritional and inflammatory biomarkers into clinical practice and further studies are needed in order to answer these questions.

Angle-to-angle and spur-to-spur distance analysis with high-resolution optical coherence tomography

Background:To measure angle-to-angle(ATA)and spur-to-spur(STS)distances along six meridians using highresolution swept-source optical coherence tomography(SS-OCT)and to compare those values with horizontal white-to-white(WTW)***:68 eyes from 68 patients were quantitatively assessed with the Anterion SS-OCT(Heidelberg Engineering,Heidelberg,Germany).ATA and STS distances were measured with the SS-OCT’s B-Scan in six cross-sectional images corresponding to the vertical(6-12 o’clock),1-7 o’clock,2-8 o’clock,horizontal(3-9 o’clock),4-10 o’clock and 5-11 o’clock *** was measured horizontally with the device’s infrared camera.A Pearson correlation analysis was carried out to compare ATA and STS distances with ***:The largest values were found for the vertical meridian and the shortest for the 2-8 o’clock meridian,both for ATA and STS *** statistically significant differences were found between WTW,ATA and STS along the horizontal meridian(p>0.1).However,ATA and STS showed statistically significant differences elsewhere,except for the horizontal and the 2-8 o’clock meridians(p>0.05).Moreover,we found that ATA and STS varied significantly depending on the meridian being assessed,except for ATA at 4-10 versus 3-9 o’clock and for STS at 4-10 versus 3-9 o’clock and at 3-9 versus 2-8 o’clock(p>0.1).R^(2) values ranged from 0.49 to 0.75 for ATA and STS at the different meridians,showing the best correlation at 3-9 o’clock meridian(0.64 and 0.75,respectively)and the worst at 6-12 o’clock meridian(R^(2)=0.49 for both ATA and STS).Conclusions:ATA and STS distances vary radially,thus showing that the anterior chamber is vertically ***,it is advisable to measure these two distances along the meridian to be used.

How does anodization time affect morphological and photocatalytic properties of iron oxide nanostructures?

Iron oxide nanostructures are promising materials to be used as photocatalysts in different photoelectrochemical applications. There are different techniques in order to synthesize these nanostructures, but one of the most inexpensive and simple method is electrochemical anodization. This method can lead to different nanostructures by controlling its parameters. Anodization time is one of the most critical parameters since it considerably affects the properties of the obtained nanostructures. In this work, different anodization times(5, 10, 15, 30 and 60 min) were studied. The resulting nanotubes were characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy, raman laser confocal microscopy, water splitting measurements, Mott-Schottky analysis and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, in order to test their viability for being used as photocatalysts in photoelectrochemical applications. Results showed that the best photocurrent density values in water splitting tests(0.263 m A m-2) were achieved for the sample anodized for 10 min under hydrodynamic conditions.

Study of reverse osmosis membranes fouling by inorganic salts and colloidal particles during seawater desalination

Fouling phenomenon is considered among the major reasons that cause significant increase of operating cost of desalination plants equipped with reverse osmosis(RO)*** phenomenon is studied in the present work in the case of RO polyamide aromatic membranes using model seawater containing inorganic salts and colloidal *** solubility conditions of CaCO3 and CaSO4 were applied to study RO performances with and without colloid *** experiments,the membrane permeate fluxes were continuously ***,studies of chemical composition,structure,and morphology of the materials deposited on the membrane surface were conducted using energy dispersive microanalysis(EDS)X-ray diffraction and scanning electronic microscopy(SEM).Results show that in conditions of calcium carbonate oversaturation there is a reduction in the permeate flow of 11.2%due to fouling of the membrane by the precipitation of this *** in the same conditions of calcium sulphate oversaturation the reduction of the flow is 5%,so we can conclude that in conditions of oversaturation of both salts,calcium carbonate produces a greater fouling of the membrane that in its view causes greater decrease in the flow of *** this based on the results of the test with both salts in oversaturated *** in the formation of calcite and gypsum crystals onto the membranes as XRD analyses *** presence of colloidal silica in those conditions intensifies strongly the fouling,leading until to 24.1%of permeate flux decrease.
