An evaluation of.the incidence of.Crypticerya multicicatrices and Maconellicoccus hirsutus in Colombian Seaf.ower Biosphere Reserve in San Andrés, Providence and Santa Catalina islands, f.om mid-August to mid-November 2012 was made. 38 locations were sampled, and 34% of.sites tested show an incidence of.C. multicicatrices oscillating between a range of.80%-100%, 24% with 40%-80% of.incidence, 18% between 10%-40% and 24% with a range of.0%-10%. The occurrence of.M. hirsutus f.uctuated between 0.5% and 17%. There were seven genera of.ants associated C. multicicatrices and 94 hosts of.this agriculturally important insect and we f.und high incidence of.associated sooty mold in C. multicicatrices hosts. Observations also contained some developmental stages of.C. multicatrices.

Traumatic brain injury is a global health crisis,causing signif.cant death and disability *** that f.llows traumatic brain injury has serious consequences f.r neuronal survival and cognitive impairments,with astrocytes involved in this *** traumatic brain injury,astrocytes rapidly become reactive,and astrogliosis propagates f.om the injury core to distant brain *** astroglial proteins are downregulated near the traumatic brain injury core,while pro-inf.ammatory astroglial genes are *** altered gene expression is considered a pathological remodeling of.astrocytes that produces serious consequences f.r neuronal survival and cognitive *** addition,glial scar f.rmed by reactive astrocytes is initially necessary to limit immune cell inf.ltration,but in the long term impedes axonal reconnection and f.nctional *** therapeutic strategies f.r traumatic brain injury are f.cused on preventing acute ***,cannabinoids,progesterone,beta-blockers,and cerebrolysin demonstrate neuroprotective benef.ts but most of.them have not been studied in the context of.*** this review,we discuss the cell signaling pathways activated in reactive astrocytes f.llowing traumatic brain injury and we discuss some of.the potential new strategies aimed to modulate astroglial responses in traumatic brain injury,especially using cell-targeted strategies with miRNAs or lncRNA,viral vectors,and repurposed drugs.

Olf.ctory ensheathing glia promote axonal regeneration in the mammalian central nervous system,including retinal ganglion cell axonal growth through the injured optic ***,it is unknown whether olf.ctory ensheathing glia also have neuroprotective *** ensheathing glia express brain-derived neurotrophic f.ctor,one of.the best neuroprotectants f.r axotomized retinal ganglion ***,we aimed to investigate the neuroprotective capacity of.olf.ctory ensheating glia af.er optic nerve *** ensheathing glia cells f.om an established rat immortalized clonal cell line,TEG3,were intravitreally injected in intact and axotomized retinas in syngeneic and allogeneic mode with or without microglial inhibition or immunosuppressive *** and gene expression analyses were *** bulb-derived primary olf.ctory ensheathing glia and TEG3 express major histocompatibility complex classⅡ*** and syngenically transplanted TEG3 cells survived in the vitreous f.r up to 21 days,f.rming an *** axotomized retinas,only the allogeneic TEG3 transplant rescued retinal ganglion cells at 7 days but not at 21 *** these retinas,microglial anatomical activation was higher than af.er optic nerve crush *** intact retinas,both transplants activated microglial cells and caused retinal ganglion cell death at 21 days,a loss that was higher af.er allotransplantation,triggered by pyroptosis and partially rescued by microglial inhibition or ***,neuroprotection of.axotomized retinal ganglion cells did not improve with these *** dif.erent neuroprotective properties,dif.erent toxic ef.ects,and dif.erent responses to microglial inhibitory treatments of.olf.ctory ensheathing glia in the retina depending on the type of.transplant highlight the importance of.thorough preclinical studies to explore these variables.

Gastrointestinal cancer is a group of.tumors that af.ect multiple sites of.the digestive system, including the stomach, liver, colon and pancreas. These cancers are very aggressive and rapidly metastasize, thus identif.ing ef.ective targets is crucial f.r treatment. Galectin-1(Gal-1) belongs to a f.mily of.glycan-binding proteins, or lectins, with the ability to cross-link specif.c glycoconjugates. A variety of.biological activities have been attributed to Gal-1 at dif.erent steps of.tumor progression. Herein, we summarize the current literature regarding the roles of.Gal-1 in gastrointestinal malignancies. Accumulating evidence shows that Gal-1 is drastically up-regulated in human gastric cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma, colorectal cancer and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma tissues, both in tumor epithelial and tumor-associated stromal cells. Moreover, Gal-1 makes a crucial contribution to the pathogenesis of.gastrointestinal malignancies, f.voring tumor development, aggressiveness, metastasis, immunosuppression and angiogenesis. We also highlight that alterations in Gal-1-specif.c glycoepitopes may be relevant f.r gastrointestinal cancer progression. Despite the f.ndings obtained so f.r, f.rther f.nctional studies are still required. Elucidating the precise molecular mechanisms modulated by Gal-1 underlying gastrointestinal tumor progression, might lead to the development of.novel Gal-1-based diagnostic methods and/or therapies.

Ectothermic vertebrates are sensitive to thermal f.uctuations in the environments where they *** buf.er these f.uctuations,ectotherms use dif.erent strategies,including the integument,which is a barrier that minimizes temperature exchange between the inner body and the surrounding *** lizards,this barrier is constituted by keratinized scales of.variable size,shape and texture,and its main f.nction is protection,water loss avoidance and *** size of.scales in lizards has been proposed to vary in relation to climatic gradients;however,it has also been observed that in some groups of.Iguanian lizards it could be related to ***,here,we studied the area and number of.scales(dorsal and ventral)of.60 species of.Liolaemus lizards distributed in a broad latitudinal and altitudinal gradient to determine the nature of.the variation of.the scales with climate,and f.und that the number and size of.scales are related to climatic variables,such as temperature and geographical variables as *** evolutionary process that best explained how these morphological variables evolved was the Ornstein–Uhlenbeck *** number of.scales seemed to be related to common ancestry,whereas dorsal and ventral scale areas seemed to vary as a consequence of.ecological *** f.ct,the ventral area is less exposed to climate conditions such as ultraviolet radiation or wind and is,thus,under less pressure to change in response to alterations in external *** is possible that scale ornamentation,such as keels and granulosity,may bring some more inf.rmation in this regard.
