The aim of the current study was to determine the nature of the seasonal variability of the Suspended Particulate Matter(SPM) fluxes from the drainage basin to the estuary in a macrotidal region(Northeastern Brazil),and the estuarine response to a seawater intrusion regarding sediment deposition,which will support the understanding of the global transport of materials at the continent-ocean *** structure data was acquired using a Conductivity,Temperature,and Depth(CTD) probe with a sampling frequency of 4 *** particulate material was measured by gravimetric measurements applied to exact filtered volume *** outflows were measured through the use of an Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler(ADCP) with frequency of 1.5 *** horizontal thermal and saline gradients varied from warmer and less saline waters(2014) to cooler and saline waters(2015).The gradient behavior when linked to volume transport and SPM flows,suggests a minimization of the fluvial flows in 2015,easing the advance of coastal water(CW) towards the inner estuary,leading to an inversion of the baroclinic pressure *** bottom saline front,generated by the entrance of coastal water masses,caused an increase in SPM concentrations due to increased fluid density,resuspension of previously deposited sediment,and erosion of *** concentrations of SPM indicate higher volume transport suggesting a hydraulic barrier due to the change/inversion of the baroclinic pressure gradient,resulting in water and material *** deposition was observed during neap tide,while during spring tide the material is resuspended,increasing the concentration,generating cycles of deposition and erosion during the neap-spring *** sediment in suspension that reach the estuary,even with low fluvial volume,stay in this environment forming new islands because of *** deposition rates or sediment cycling,if generated by the hydraulic barrier,may indicate that the flo

On Boolean Functions Associated to Finite Aligned Spaces

An Overview of the Amazonian Craton Evolution: Insights for Paleocontinental Reconstruction

The Amazonian craton major accretionary and collisional processes may be correlated to supercontinent assemblies developed at several times in the Earth history. Based on geologic, structural and paleomagnetic evidence paleocontinent reconstructions have been proposed for Archean to younger times. The oldest continent (Ur) was formed probably by five Achaean cratonic areas (Kaapvaal, Western Dhawar, Bhandara, Singhhum and Pilbara cratons). Geologic evidences suggest the participation of the Archaean rocks of the Carajás region in the Ur landmass. Supercontinental 2.45 Ga Kenorland amalgamation is indicated by paleomagnetic data including Laurentia, Baltica, Australia, and Kalahari and Kaapvaal cratons. There is no evidence indicating that Amazonian craton was part of the Kenorland supercontinent. From 1.83 Ga to 1.25 Ga Columbia and Hudsonland supercontinents including Amazonian craton were proposed based on NE portion of the Amazonian craton (Maroni/Itacaiunas province) connection with West Africa and Kalahari cratons. Rodinia supercontinent reconstructions show Amazonia joined to Laurentia-Baltica as result of 1.1 Ga to 1.0 Ga fusion based on the Sunsas-Aguapei belts and Greenville and Sveconorwegian belts, respectivelly. The large Late Mesoproterozoic landmass included also Siberia, East Antartica, West Nile, Kalahari, Congo/Sao Francisco and Greenland. The 750 - 520 Ma Gondwana assembly includes most of the continental fragments rifted apart during the break-up of Rodinia followed by diachronic collisions (Araguaia, Paraguay and Tucavaca belts). The supercontinent Pangea is comprised of Gondwana and Laurentia formed at about 300 - 180 Ma ago. The Amazonian craton margins probably were not envolved in the collisional processes during Pangea because it was embebed in Neoproterozoic materials. As consequence, Amazonian craton borders have no record of the orogenic processes responsible for the Pangea amalgamation.

T-cell development ensures the formation of diverse repertoires of T-cell receptors(TCRs)that recognize a variety of *** is a major posttranslational modification present in virtually all cells,including T-lymphocytes,that regulates activity/*** these structures are known to be involved in TCR-selection in DP thymocytes,it is unclear how glycans regulate other thymic development processes and how they influence susceptibility to ***,we discovered stage-specific glycome compositions during T-cell development in human and murine thymocytes,as well as dynamic *** restricting the N-glycosylation profile of thymocytes to high-mannose structures,using specific glycoengineered mice(Rag1CreMgat1fl/fl),we showed remarkable defects in key developmental checkpoints,includingß-selection,regulatory T-cell generation andγδT-cell development,associated with increased susceptibility to colon and kidney inflammation and *** further demonstrated that a single N-glycan antenna(modeled in Rag1CreMgat2fl/fl mice)is the sine-qua-non condition to ensure normal *** conclusion,we revealed that mannosylated thymocytes lead to a dysregulation in T-cell development that is associated with inflammation susceptibility.

Intergranular Corrosion of UNS S31803 Heat Treated at 800 ℃ Varying Range Times

The aim of this work is evaluate the intergranular corrosion on UNS S31803 steel, with heat treatments at 800 ℃, varying treatment times of 30 mins, 360 mins and 1,440 mins. The results confirm the formation of o phases and secondary austenite （γ2）. For the analysis of the influence of o and γ2 phases, metallographic analysis were conducted through optical microscopy, potentiokinetic reactivation electrochemical techniques and potentiodynamic polarization in NaCI 3.5% solution. Microstructural analysis has shown a formation of γ2 and o phase in heat treatment, due to diffusion of chromium and molybdenum from δ phase to y phase, precipitating on δ/γ and δ/δ interfaces. The DL-EPR （Double loop electrochemical potentiokinetic reactivation） results have shown an increase of the dos （degree of sensitization） for long periods of time on heat treatment. The results of potentiodynamic polarization showed a reduction of the corrosion and pitting potentials, followed by an increase of the current density when the UNS S31830 steel is heat treated during long periods of time.

Immunohistochemical expression of thymidylate synthase and prognosis in gastric cancer patients submitted to fluoropyrimidine-based chemotherapy

Objective： Adjuvant chemotherapy with 5-fluorouracil （5-FU） has been widely used in gastric cancer （GC） patients to prevent relapse after curative resection. 5-FU acts by inhibiting thymidylate synthase （TS）, and high levels of TS correlate with resistance to treatment with fluoropyfimidines. The aim of this study was to evaluate the expression of TS in GC patients, and its relation with clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis in adjuvant chemotherapy with 5-FU. Methods： We retrospectively evaluated 285 patients who underwent D2-gastrectomy with curative intent. TS expression was determined by immunohistochemistry （IHC） in tumor cells by tissue microarray （TMA）. TS level was evaluated according to the intensity and percentage of cells marked by a score system. Patients were divided in three groups according to their TS-score： negative, low and high. Results： TS expression was positive in 92.3% of GC. TS-high, TS-low and TS-negative were observed in 46.3%, 46.0% and 7.7% of patients, respectively. High-TS GC were associated with older age （P=0.007）, high neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio （P=0.048）, well/moderately differentiated histology （P=0.001）, intestinal Lauren type （P〈0.001） and absence of perineural invasion （P=0.003）. Among 285 patients, 133 stage IUIII patients （46.7%） received chemotherapy with 5-FU. In survival analysis, TS-high was associated with worse disease-free survival （DFS） in stage III GC patients who received 5-FU-based chemotherapy （P=0.007）. Multivariate analysis revealed that total gastrectomy, poorly differentiated tumors and high TS-score were associated with worse DFS in stage III GC patients. Conclusions： High TS-score in stage III GC was associated with poor DFS in patients treated with fluoropyrimidine-based chemotherapy.

AIM: To evaluate in bile duct ligated rats whether there were progressive alterations of renal function without changes in histopathology. METHODS: Male Wistar rats were submitted to sham-surgery or bile duct ligation (BDL) and divided according to the post-procedure time (2, 4 and 6-wk). To determine renal function parameters, rats wereplaced in metabolic cages and, at the end of the experiment, blood and urine samples were obtained. Histology and hydroxyproline content were analyzed in liver and renal tissue. RESULTS: Rats with 2 wk of BDL increased free water clearance (P = 0.02), reduced urinary osmolality (P = 0.03) and serum creatinine (P = 0.01) in comparison to the sham group. In contrast, rats at 6 wk of BDL showed features of HRS, including signif icant increase in serum creatinine and reductions in creatinine clearance, water excretion and urinary sodium concentration. Rats with 4 wk of BDL exhibited an intermediate stage of renal dysfunction. Progressive hepatic f ibrosis according to post-procedure time was confirmed by histology. The increased levels of liver hydroxyproline contrasted with the absence of structural changes in the kidney, as assessed by histology and unchanged hydroxyproline content in renal tissue. CONCLUSION: Our data show that BDL produced progressive renal dysfunction without structural changes in the kidney, characterizing HRS. The present model will be useful to understand the pathophysiology of HRS.

Vehicle Operating, Accident and User Time Costs in Pavement Management Systems： Approach for Portuguese Conditions

This paper presents a description and analysis of the most important models to predict each of the Road User Costs components （Vehicle Operating Costs, Accident Costs and Value of Time） and proposes a model for estimating RUC components suitable for the Portuguese road network. These results are part of a research which aimed to obtain a Road User Cost Model to be used as a tool in road management systems. This model is different from other models by the fact that it includes a simple formulation that allows calibration and calculation of cost parameters, for any year, in a simple and fast way, providing trustworthy results. The required data is already available in Portuguese institutions, allowing periodic revision of cost parameters to insure accuracy.

Several substations in operation were commissioned decades *** substations are overstressed,then their protection equipment cannot provide an effective safety condition to the *** the worst cases,short‐circuits can cause permanent damage to the system if the overcurrent is higher than the capacity of the installed *** are some possible solutions for those cases:replace all the equipment in the overstressed substation,build a new one in parallel or install a fault current limiter(FCL)*** an economic point of view,introducing FCLs in the power system is the best way to solve the described *** commercial solutions available are the pyrotechnic FCL,air coil reactor,neutral earthing resistor,and high impedance ***,these devices are limited and present several *** the’70s,there has been a search for reliable FCL devices that do not interfere in the regular operation of substations and could limit the fault currents to the protection system rated *** were so many FCL technologies proposed in the last *** proposed new devices may use superconducting technologies,power electronics,or *** paper reviews proven FCL technologies,focusing on full‐scale devices demonstrated in field and lab *** goal is to introduce the main FCL technologies in development and discuss didactically their operation principle,the built prototypes,the commercial units,whether they exist,and the main drawbacks for each technology presented.A final analysis of the level of maturity for each FCL technology is discussed using the TRL(Technology readiness level)scale in order to find technologies with more potential for mass *** three technologies closer to the full commercial application are:the Resistive Superconducting FCL,the Saturated Iron Core FCL,and the Series Reactor FCL.
