Evolutionary fingerprint, phylogenetic and forest structure of tropical montane Atlantic cloud forests along an elevation gradient

Environmental conditions can change markedly over geographical distances along elevation gradients,making them natural laboratories to study the processes that structure *** work aimed to assess the influences of elevation on Tropical Montane Cloud Forest plant communities in the Brazilian Atlantic Forest,a historically neglected *** evaluated the phylogenetic structure,forest structure(tree basal area and tree density)and species richness along an elevation gradient,as well as the evolutionary fingerprints of elevation-success on phylogenetic lineages from the tree *** do so,we assessed nine communities along an elevation gradient from 1210 to 2310 m *** large elevation *** relationships between elevation and phylogenetic structure,forest structure and species richness were investigated through Linear *** occurrence of evolutionary fingerprint on phylogenetic lineages was investigated by quantifying the extent of phylogenetic signal of elevation-success using a genus-level molecular *** results showed decreased species richness at higher elevations and independence between forest structure,phylogenetic structure and *** also verified that there is a phylogenetic signal associated with elevation-success by *** concluded that the elevation is associated with species richness and the occurrence of phylogenetic lineages in the tree communities evaluated in Mantiqueira *** the other hand,elevation is not associated with forest structure or phylogenetic ***,closely related taxa tend to have their higher ecological success in similar ***,we highlight the fragility of the tropical montane cloud forests in the Mantiqueira Range in face of environmental changes(*** warming)due to the occurrence of exclusive phylogenetic lineages evolutionarily adapted to environmental conditions(*** temperature)associated with each elevation range.

In tropical montane forests,compositional and structural changes are commonly driven by broad-scale altitudinal ***,given the lack of knowledge on small-scale vegetation changes and temporal dynamics,we address the effects of small-scale variations in soil and altitude on tree community structure,temporal dynamics and phylogenetic diversity in a semi-deciduous tropical forest of the Atlantic Forest domain,southeastern *** 2010 and 2015 we sampled thirty plots of 400 m^(2),set up along an altitudinal gradient between 1000 and 1500 m a.s.I..In each plot,we collected soil samples for chemical and textural *** fitted linear models to test the effects of altitude and soil on community dynamics and phylogenetic *** and soil explained the spatial variation in number of individuals and phylogenetic diversity *** lower to higher altitudes,we found decreasing fertility,increasing tree density and decreasing phylogenetic *** significantly influenced the increases in total biomass(from 240.9 to 255.4 t ha^(-1))and individual biomass(from 0.15 to 0.17 t)recorded in the *** while community temporal dynamics had rates of 1.96%for mortality,1.02%for recruitment,1.61%for biomass loss and 2.81%for biomass gain,none of them were explained by altitude or *** species substitution averaged0.1 in the ***,these results suggest that the small-scale variations in altitude and soil likely determine the conditions and resources that drive community assembly and structure,which are expressed by spatial variations along the altitudinal *** the same time,temporal patterns were not influenced by altitude-related environmental variation,resulting in a similar dynamic behaviour across the gradient,suggesting that broad-scale factors may play a more important role than local ones.

Disease-resistant genes play an important role in defending against a variety of pathogens and insect pests in plants. Most of the disease-resistant genes encode pro- teins with conserved leucine rich repeat and nucleotide binding site domains. In this study, we cloned and char- acterized gene-resistant analogs （RGAs） from Eucalyptus grandis using degenerate PCR, with primers specifically targeting these two domains. The amplified fragments were cloned into the pGEM-T vector and transformed into Escherichia coli. Among the 90 clones obtained, 13 were sequenced and compared with each other and with previ- ously identified gene-resistant diseases. A BLASTX search in GenBank revealed high similarities among the con- served domains of these cloned genes with RGA genes. Some clones, however, showed no significant similarity with DNA sequences in GenBank. Southern blotting ana- lysis identified several polymorphic RFLP loci between distinct genotypes. However, none of them co-segregated with the Puccinia psidii Winter resistance gene 1 （Ppr1） in a population study.

Gastric Volvulus Complicates the Hepatectomy for Living donor Liver Transplantation

donor safety is the major concern in living donor liver transplantation (LDLT), and a constant aware of postoperative morbidity should be emphasized. Between March 2002 and May 2011 we performed 435 liver transplantations at an our center, one hundred forty eight with living donors. Among them left lobectomy or left lateral resections were conducted in 68 cases. Symptoms of gastric obstruction were recognized in 3 out of 68 patients that underwent left lateral resection (4.4%). The patients were readmitted because of severe symptoms of vomiting and abdominal pain. An upper endoscopy was performed and revealed pyloroantral obstruction due to gastric volvulus (GV). Endoscopic therapy correction was successfully performed in all patients. Reviewing the literature, one article has reported GV in 13 out of 115 donors (11.3%), all patients were submitted to a left resection. The mechanisms underlying this complication, in LDLT scenario, have not been fully elucidated. Nevertheless, clinicians should be aware of this possible association, which could make the diagnosis of GV more likely if a living donor comes back with typical symptoms.

Acromyrmex ameliae sp. n. （Hymenoptera： Formicidae）： A new social parasite of leaf-cutting ants in Brazil

The fungus-growing ants （Tribe Attini） are a New World group of〉 200 species, all obligate symbionts with a fungus they use for food. Four attine taxa are known to be social parasites of other attines. Acromyrmex （ Pseudoatta） argentina argentina and Acromyrmex （Pseudoatta） argentina platensis （parasites of Acromyrmex lundi）, and Acromyrmex sp. （a parasite of Acromyrmex rugosus） produce no worker caste. In contrast, the recently discovered Acromyrmex insinuator （a parasite of Acromyrmex echinatior） does produce workers. Here, we describe a new species, Acromyrmex ameliae, a social parasite of Acromyrmex subterraneus subterraneus and Acromyrmex subterraneus brunneus in Minas Gerais, Brasil. Like A. insinuator, it produces workers and appears to be closely related to its hosts. Similar social parasites may be fairly common in the fungus-growing ants, but overlooked due to the close resemblance between parasite and host workers.

Long-Term Impact in Hepatitis C Virus Infection in Post Renal Transplantation

Purpose: The authors have evaluated the impact of the kidney transplantation associated with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, analyzing the complications, patients and graft survival. Methods: Retrospective study with 40 kidney transplant recipients with HCV infection and 40 kidney transplant recipients without HCV infection in the same post transplantation period. Results: the average follow-up after transplantation was 12.3 ± 4.5 years in patients with HCV infection and 12.5 ± 2.9 years in patients without HCV infection (p = 0.49). There was no statistical difference related to age and gender of the recipient nor donor age and type. The current renal function in patients with HCV infection was 47.3 ± 24.9 mL/min and 54.9 ± 27.2 mL/min in the HCV negative group (p = 0.54). The incidence of graft and patient survival was similar in both groups. The main cause of death in both groups was bacterial infection (10% in patients with HCV infection and 12.5% in HCV negative patients (p = 0.63). The most common complication in the two groups were acute allograft rejection and bacterial infection. The incidence of diabetes mellitus did not differ statistically in both groups. Abnormal liver enzymes levels and cirrhosis were observed only in patients with HCV infection. Conclusion: HCV infection did not impact patient or graft survival and post-transplant complications were similar in both groups during a mean follow-up period of 12 years.

Aim: To evaluate photodynamic therapy (PDT) in vitro to reduce the growth of Candida spp, and its synergy with the antifungals fluconazole and ketoconazole for inhibition of resistant, DDS and susceptible isolates from asymptomatic carriers and with complicated vulvovaginitis. Methods: Between 2017 and 2020, we evaluated 230 women with vulvovaginal candidiasis and 400 asymptomatic. We obtained 130 positive cultures for Candida spp from vulvovaginitis and 94 asymptomatic. Yeasts were characterized by classical and molecular tests. Sensitivity to fluconazole and ketoconazole was evaluated by E-test.
