Severe acute pancreatitis often leads to pancreatic and peripancreatic collections but,rarely,it can lead to collections at sites remote from the *** male patients presented with abdominal pain and inguinoscrotal *** were initially misdiagnosed with obstructed inguinal hernia,epididymo-orchitis and hydrocele,***,their diagnosis of acute pancreatitis was revealed on laparotomy in one patient and on computed tomography(CT)in the remaining two *** these cases had extensive peripancreatic necrosis and paracolic collections tracking along the psoas muscle,downwards towards the *** collections were initially managed by percutaneous drainage and saline irrigation as a part of the‘step-up’*** of these patients required open necrosectomy,while all required incision and drainage of inguinoscrotal *** the patients were discharged in satisfactory *** swelling is unusual as a first presentation of acute pancreatitis.A high index of suspicion,with careful study of patient’s history and examination along with CT,may provide an accurate *** drainage may be required to control sepsis and also provide an egress route for intra-abdominal collections.

Objective:To do the systematic comparison of prevalence of anaplasmosis by PCR and Giemsa stained thin blood smear(GSTBS) based parasitological assays in dairy cattle of Punjab,which has not been reported *** analyse the haematobiochemical alterations in infected animals to arrive at the conclusion regarding the pathogenicity induced by Anaplasma marginale (***) in latent and patent ***:Study was conducted on 320 animals (236 cows,62 calves and 22 buffaloes) of Punjab,*** on genome of *** was performed by targeting msp1βgene using specific primers BAP-2/AL34S,amplifies products of size 407 *** based data on the characteristics of the infected animals and management strategies of the farm were collected and ***:Higher prevalence and more significant association was observed in the PCR based molecular diagnosis(P=0.00012) as compared to that in GSTBS(P=0.028 8) based diagnosis with various regions under *** respect to the regions,highest prevalence was recorded in Ferozepur by PCR based diagnosis, while that in Jalandhar by GSTBS *** marked significant association of the PCR based diagnosis with the age of the animals under study(P=0.00013) was observed elucidating no inverse age resistance to *** in cow *** profile of infected animals revealed marked anemia,liver dysfunction and increase globulin concentrate indicating rise in immunoglobulin level to counteract ***:PCR is far more sensitive in detecting the disease even in latent infection which may act as nidus for spread of anaplasmosis to susceptible animals in endemic *** of anaemia and liver dysfunction were comparable both in patent as well as latent infection indicating pathogenicity of both.

Modifications in the Stress Field of a Long Inclined Fault Caused by the Welded-Contact Boundary Conditions across the Interface between Two Elastic Half-Spaces

In welded-contact boundary conditions, some stress components are not required to be continuous across the boundary between two elastic half-spaces. The purpose of this note is to study the modifications in the stress field of a long inclined strike-slip, dip-slip or tensile fault caused by the welded-contact boundary conditions across the interface between two elastic half-spaces. The Poisson’s ratios of the two half-spaces do not appear in the stress field of a strike-slip fault. In the case of a dip-slip fault, the Poisson’s ratio of the half-space in which the fault lies, has a significant influence on the stress field across the interface. However, for a tensile fault, the modification in the stress field is significantly affected by the Poisson’s ratios of both the half-spaces.

On the Design of Plus Slotted Fractal Antenna Array

A new technique which is a combination of fractal antenna and array antenna is presented to design Plus Slotted Fractal Antenna Array (PSFAA) in this paper. PSFAA with corporate feed operates at 2.5 GHz frequency. PSFAA is designed on FR4 substrate material with permittivity 4.4 and height 1.6 mm. PSFAA is designed up to 2nd iteration. High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS) software is used for simulation of PSFAA. The proposed antenna array operates at three bands with five frequencies 2.5 GHz, 4.1 GHz, 6.9 GHz, 7.4 GHz and 8.2 GHz. Simulated Return losses results of proposed PSFAA are -22.15 dB, -19.44 dB, -25.21 dB, -10 dB, -12.45 dB at above frequencies respectively. It has a gain of 9.22 dB at resonant frequency 2.5 GHz whereas conventional antenna array has a gain of 5.15 dB at resonant frequency 2.5 GHz. Return losses and gain of PSFAA also improved from conventional antenna array at various resonant frequencies.

OFDM (Optical Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) in the optical domain is a promising technology which provides solutions to problems of today’s optical networks. In the present research an optical OFDM system is designed using different modulation techniques QPSK (quadrature phase shift keying), QAM (quadrature amplitude Modulation). Various signal conditioning parameters, like OSNR (optical signal to noise ratio), BER (bit error rate), chromatic dispersion and electrical SNR (signal to noise ratio) have been reported in present research. These parameters could be used for identifying the fault. On the basis of conclusion drawn for values of these parameters, the system may dynamically adapt and reconfigure itself for better transmission. In present research OPTSIM and MATLAB has been used as Simulation tools.

Enviromnental pollution is serious social concern. The inflow of heavy metals in the ecological food chain and their subsequent bio-magnification in human bodies is cascading its harmful effects. The metabolism of plants is being hampered by these heavy metals. In the present studies, effect of heavy metal especially cadmium has been studied on stomatal diffusive resistance （SDR）, transpiration rate, leaf surface humidity and leaf temperature of soybean plants growing in hydroponic cultures. Cadmium treatment decelerates the rate of transpiration. The inhibition of transpiration associated with increased SDR leads to dehydration of leaf surface, thereby, increasing temperature of leaves in comparison to control plants. In the present study, temperature difference between stressed and non-stressed plant leaves was as high as 3℃ Moreover, any such rise in leaf temperature due to uptake and induced toxicity of heavy metals can possibly be a good bio-indicator having wide applications in thermal remote sensing and geospatial monitoring of metal polluted soils.

Leaf rust(LR) and stripe rust(YR) are important diseases in wheat producing areas worldwide and cause severe yield losses under favorable environmental conditions when susceptible varieties are grown. We determined the genetic basis of resistance to LR and YR in variety Borlaug 100 by developing and phenotyping a population of 198 F6 recombinant inbred lines derived from a cross with the susceptible parent Apav#1. LR and YR phenotyping were conducted for 4 and 3 seasons, respectively, at CIMMYT research stations in Mexico under artificial epidemics. Mendelian segregation analyses indicated that 3–5 LR and 2 YR genes conferred resistance in Borlaug 100. Lr46/Yr29(1 BL), Yr17(2 AS) and Yr30(3 BS) were present in the resistant parent and segregated in the RIL population based on characterization by molecular markers linked to these genes. When present alone, Lr46/Yr29 caused average 13% and 16% reductions in LR and YR severities, respectively, in RILs. Similarly, Yr17 and Yr30 reduced YR severities by 57% and 11%, respectively. The Yr30 and the Yr17 translocation were also associated with 27% and 14% reductions, respectively, in LR severity, indicating that the 3 BS and 2 AS chromosomal regions likely carry new slow rusting LR resistance genes, temporarily designated as Lr B1 and Lr B2, respectively. Additive effects of Yr30*Yr17, Yr29*Yr17 and Yr29*Yr30 on YR and LR were significant and reduced YR severities by 56%,55%, and 45%, respectively, and LR severities by 34%, 40%, and 45%, respectively. Furthermore, interaction between the three genes was also significant, with mean reductions of 70% for YR and 54% for LR severities. Borlaug 100, or any one of the 21 lines with variable agronomic traits but carrying all three colocated resistance loci, can be used as resistance sources in wheat breeding programs.

The aim of this note is to study the effect of negative Poisson’s ratio on the quasi-static deformation of a poroelastic half-space with anisotropic permeability and compressible fluid and solid constituents by surface loads. Two particular cases considered are: two-dimensional normal strip loading and axisymmetric normal disc loading. It is found that a negative Poisson’s ratio makes the Mandel-Cryer effect more prominent. It also results in an increase in the magnitude of the surface settlement.
