Relationship between high dietary fat intake and Parkinson’s disease risk: a meta-analysis

OBJECTIVE: To assess whether dietary fat intake influences Parkinson’s disease risk. DATA SOURCES: We systematically surveyed the Embase and PubMed databases, reviewing manuscripts published prior to October 2018. The following terms were used:(“Paralysis agitans” OR “Parkinson disease” OR “Parkinson” OR “Parkinson’s” OR “Parkinson’s disease”) AND (“fat” OR “dietary fat” OR “dietary fat intake”). DATA SELECTION: Included studies were those with both dietary fat intake and Parkinson’s disease risk as exposure factors. The Newcastle-Ottawa Scale was adapted to investigate the quality of included studies. Stata V12.0 software was used for statistical analysis. OUTCOME MEASURES: The primary outcomes included the relationship between high total energy intake, high total fat intake, and Parkinson’s disease risk. The secondary outcomes included the relationship between different kinds of fatty acids and Parkinson’s disease risk. RESULTS: Nine articles met the inclusion criteria and were incorporated into this meta-analysis. Four studies scored 7 and the other five studies scored 9 on the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale, meaning that all studies were of high quality. Meta-analysis results showed that high total energy intake was associated with an increased risk of Parkinson’s disease (P = 0.000, odds ratio (OR)= 1.49, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.26–1.75);in contrast, high total fat intake was not associated with Parkinson’s disease risk (P = 0.123, OR = 1.07, 95% CI: 0.91–1.25). Subgroup analysis revealed that polyunsaturated fatty acid intake (P = 0.010, OR = 1.03, 95% CI: 0.88–1.20) reduced the risk of Parkinson’s disease, while arachidonic acid (P = 0.026, OR = 1.15, 95% CI: 0.97–1.37) and cholesterol (P = 0.002, OR = 1.09, 95% CI: 0.92–1.29) both increased the risk of Parkinson’s disease. Enhancing the Crystallization Performance of Poly(L-lactide) by Intramolecular Hybridizing with Tunable Self-assembly-type Oxalamide Segments

In this work, hydroxyl-terminated oxalamide compounds N^(1),N^(2)-bis(2-hydroxyethyl)oxalamide(OXA1) and N^(1),N^(1)′-(ethane-1,2-diyl)bis(N^(2)-(2-hydroxyethyl)oxalamide(OXA2) were synthesized to initiate the ring-opening polymerization of L-lactide for preparation of oxalamide-hybridized poly(L-lactide)(PLA_(OXA)), i.e., PLA_(OXA1) and PLA_(OXA2). The crystallization properties of PLA were improved by the self-assembly of the oxalamide segments in PLA_(OXA) which served as the initial heterogeneous nuclei. The crystal growth kinetics was studied by HoffmanLauritzen theory and it revealed that the nucleation energy barrier of PLA_(OXA1) and PLA_(OXA2) was lower than that of PLA. Consequently, PLA_(OXA) could crystallize much faster than PLA, accompanied with a decrease in spherulite size and half-life crystallization time by 74.8% and 86.5%(T=125 ℃), respectively. In addition, the final crystallinity of PLA_(OXA1) and PLA_(OXA2) was 6 and 8 times higher, respectively, in comparison with that of neat PLA under a controlled cooling rate of 10 ℃/min. The results demonstrate that the hybridization of oxalamide segments in PLA backbone will serve as the self-heteronucleation for promoting the crystallization rate. The higher the content of oxalamide segments(PLA_(OXA2) compared with PLA_(OXA1)) is, the stronger the promotion effect will be. Therefore, this study may provide a universal approach by hybridizing macromolecular structure to facilitate the crystallization of semi-crystalline polymer materials.

Poly(ADP-ribose)polymerase family member 14 promotes functional recovery after spinal cord injury through regulating microglia M1/M2 polarization via STAT1/6 pathway

Poly(ADP-ribose)polymerase family member 14(PARP14),which is an intracellular mono(ADP-ribosyl)transferase,has been reported to promote post-stroke functional recovery,but its role in spinal cord injury(SCI)remains *** investigate this,a T10 spinal cord contusion model was established in C57BL/6 mice,and immediately after the injury PARP14 shRNA-carrying lentivirus was injected 1 mm from the injury site to silence PARP14 *** found that PARP14 was up-regulated in the injured spinal cord and that lentivirus-mediated downregulation of PARP14 aggravated functional impairment after injury,accompanied by obvious neuronal apoptosis,severe neuroinflammation,and slight bone ***,PARP14 levels were elevated in microglia after SCI,PARP14 knockdown activated microglia in the spinal cord and promoted a shift from M2-polarized microglia(anti-inflammatory phenotype)to M1-polarized microglia(pro-inflammatory phenotype)that may have been mediated by the signal transducers and activators of transcription(STAT)1/6 ***,microglia M1 and M2 polarization were induced in vitro using lipopolysaccharide/interferon-γand interleukin-4,*** results showed that PARP14 knockdown promoted microglia M1 polarization,accompanied by activation of the STAT1 *** addition,PARP14 overexpression made microglia more prone to M2 polarization and further activated the STAT6 *** conclusion,these findings suggest that PARP14 may improve functional recovery after SCI by regulating the phenotypic transformation of microglia via the STAT1/6 pathway.

Long-range cross-correlation between urban impervious surfaces and land surface temperatures

The thermal effect of urban impervious surfaces （UIS） is a complex problem. It is thus necessary to study the relationship between UIS and land surface temperatures （LST） using complexity science theory and methods. This paper investigates the long-range cross- correlation between UIS and LST with detrended cross- correlation analysis and multifractal detrended cross- correlation analysis, utilizing data from downtown Shanghai, China. UIS estimates were obtained from linear spectral mixture analysis, and LST was retrieved through application of the mono-window algorithm, using Landsat Thematic Mapper and Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus data for 1997-2010. These results highlight a positive long-range cross-correlation between UIS and LST across People＇s Square in Shanghai. LST has a long memory for a certain spatial range of UIS values, such that a large increment in UIS is likely to be followed by a large increment in LST. While the multifractal long-range cross- correlation between UIS and LST was observed over a longer time period in the W-E direction （2002-2010） than in the N-S （2007-2010）, these observed correlations show a weakening during the study period as urbanization increased.

Transgenic Expression of a Functional Fragment of Harpin Protein Hpa1 in Wheat Represses English Grain Aphid Infestation

The harpin protein Hpa1 produced by the rice bacterial blight pathogen promotes plant growth and induces plant resistance to pathogens and insect pests. The region of 10-42 residues （Hpa110-42） in the Hpa1 sequence is critical as the isolated Hpa110-42 fragment is 1.3-7.5-fold more effective than the full length in inducing plant growth and resistance. Here we report that transgenic expression of Hpa110-42 in wheat induces resistance to English grain aphid, a dominant species of wheat aphids. Hpa110-42-induced resistance is effective to inhibit the aphid behavior in plant preference at the initial colonization stage and repress aphid performances in the reproduction, nymph growth, and instar development on transgenic plants. The resistance characters are correlated with enhanced expression of defense-regulatory genes （EIN2, PP2-A, and GSL10） and consistent with induced expression of defense response genes （Hel, PDF1.2, PR-1b, and PR-2b）. As a result, aphid infestations are alleviated in transgenic plants. The level of Hpa110-42-induced resistance in regard to repression of aphid infestations is equivalent to the effect of chemical control provided by an insecticide. These results suggested that the defensive role of Hpa110-42 can be integrated into breeding germplasm of the agriculturally signiifcant crop with a great potential of the agricultural application.

The third-party regulation on food safety in China:A review

Stakeholders in the field of food safety management in China can be classified into three categories, government, food producers （farmers and enterprises）, and the third-party regulatory bodies. The third-party regulation has experienced rapid development in past twenty years, and recently received considerable attention from consumers and the central government. This paper provides a review about the development, problems and future trend of the third-party regulation on food safety in China. To be specific, five forms of the third-party regulation are assessed, including media exposure, the third-party certification, regulation by consumer associations, social movements promoted by non-governmental organiza- tions （NGOs）, and regulation by industry associations. The study concludes that media and consumer associations are the major players in the third-party regulation and are highly repudiated among customers. The food certification industry has developed rapidly, but is now facing crises of confidence among consumers because of its lack of self-regulation. NGOs and industry associations still remain in the early development stages of food safety management, and therefore, are of little importance in current regulatory bodies.

Deciphering the molecular mechanisms of Simiaowan in the treatment of hyperuricemia: in vivo and in silico approaches

Hierarchical SAPO-11 molecular sieve(ACS-11) was successfully synthesized employing the Al2O3/carbon(Al_(2)O_(3)/C) composite obtained through the pyrolysis of Al-based metal-organic framework(Al-MOF-96)as *** other carbon-based mesoporogens with strong hydrophobicity,the Al_(2)O_(3)/C interacts with phosphoric acid and generates the AlPO_(4)/C structure,which promotes the Al2O3/C dispersion in the synthesis gel of SAPO-11 and avoids the phase separation between *** Al_(2)O_(3)/C as mesoporogen decreases the crystallite size of SAPO-11 via preventing the aggregation of ***,the addition of Al_(2)O_(3)/C improves the Si distribution in the ACS-11 ***,ACS-11 has smaller crystallites,more mesopores,and a greater amount of medium Bronsted acid centers than the conventional microporous SAPO-11 and the SAPO-11 synthesized using activated carbon as *** corresponding Pt/ACS-11 catalyst exhibits the maximal selectivity to multi-branched C10isomers(23.28%) and the minimal cracking selectivity(15.83%) in n-decane hydroisomerization among these *** research provides a new approach for preparing hierarchical silicoaluminophosphate molecular sieve-based catalysts to produce high-quality fuels.
