Using the theory of coevolution to predict protein-protein interactions in non-small cell lung cancer

Systems biology has become an effective approach for understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying the development of lung *** this study,sequences of 100 non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC)-related proteins were downloaded from the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) *** Theory of Coevolution was then used to build a protein-protein interaction (PPI) network of *** the reverse thinking approach,we analyzed the NSCLC proteins one at a *** key proteins were identified and categorized into a special protein family F(K),which included Cyclin D1 (CCND1),E-cadherin (CDH1),Cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 2A (CDKN2A),chemokine (C-X-C motif) ligand 12 (CXCL12),epidermal growth factor (EGF),epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR),TNF receptor superfamily,member 6(FAS),FK506 binding protein 12-rapamycin associated protein 1 (FRAP1),O-6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT),parkinson protein 2,E3 ubiquitin protein ligase (PARK2),phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN),calcium channel voltage-dependent alpha 2/delta subunit 2 (CACNA2D2),tubulin beta class I (TUBB),SWI/SNF-related,matrix-associated,actin-dependent regulator of chromatin,subfamily a,member 2 (SMARCA2),and wingless-type MMTV integration site family,member 7A (WNT7A).Seven key nodes of the sub-network were identified,which included PARK2,WNT7A,SMARCA2,FRAP1,CDKN2A,CCND1,and *** PPI predictions of EGFR-EGF,PARK2-FAS,PTEN-FAS,and CACNA2D2-CDH1 were confirmed experimentally by retrieving the Biological General Repository for Interaction Datasets (BioGRID) and PubMed *** proposed that the 7 proteins could serve as potential diagnostic molecular markers for *** accordance with the developmental mode of lung cancer established by Sekine et al.,we assumed that the occurrence and development of lung cancer were linked not only to gene loss in the 3p region (WNT7A,3p25) and genetic mutations in the 9p region but also to similar events in the reg

Dynamic protein-protein interaction subnetworks of lung cancer in cases with smoking history

Smoking is the primary cause of lung cancer and is linked to 85% of lung cancer ***,how lung cancer develops in patients with smoking history remains *** approaches that combine human protein-protein interaction (PPI) networks and gene expression data are superior to traditional *** performed these systems to determine the role that smoking plays in lung cancer development and used the support vector machine (SVM) model to predict *** defining expression variance (EV),we found 520 dynamic proteins (EV>0.4) using data from the Human Protein Reference Database and Gene Expression Omnibus Database,and built 7 dynamic PPI subnetworks of lung cancer in patients with smoking *** also determined the primary functions of each subnetwork:signal transduction,apoptosis,and cell migration and adhesion for subnetwork A;cell-sustained angiogenesis for subnetwork B;apoptosis for subnetwork C;and,finally,signal transduction and cell replication and proliferation for subnetworks *** probability distribution of the degree of dynamic protein and static protein differed,clearly showing that the dynamic proteins were not the core proteins which widely connected with their neighbor *** were high correlations among the dynamic proteins,suggesting that the dynamic proteins tend to form specific dynamic *** also found that the dynamic proteins were only correlated with the expression of selected proteins but not all neighbor proteins when cancer occurred.

Characterization of surface runoff from a subtropics urban catchment

Characteristics of surface runoff from a 0.14-km^2 urban catchment with separated sewer in Macao was investigated. Water quality measurements of surface runoff were carried out on five rainfall events during the period of August to November, 2005. Water quality parameters such as pH, turbidity, TSS, COD, TN, Zn, Pb, and Cu were analyzed. The results show that TN and COD are the major pollutants from surface runoff with mean concentration of 8.5 and 201.4 mg/L, both over 4-fold higher compared to the Class V surface water quality standard developed by China SEPA. Event mean concentration （EMC） for major pollutants showed considerable variations between rainfall events. The largest rainfall event with the longest length of antecedent dry weather period （ADWP） produced the highest EMC of TN, TSS and COD. From the pollutographs analysis, the peak concentration of TN precedes the peak runoff flow rate for all three rainfall events. The tendency of the concentration of TSS, turbidity and COD changing with runoff flow varies between rainfall events. The relationship between TSS and other parameters were analyzed to evaluate the efficiency of the physical treatment process to control the surface runoff in the urban catchment. Based on the correlation of parameters with TSS, high treatment efficiency of TSS, TN and COD was expected. The most significant event in term of first flush is the one with the strongest rainfall intensity and longest length of ADWP. TN always showed first flush phenomenon in all three rainfall events, which suggested that the surface runoff in the early stage of surface runoff should be dealt with for controlling TN losses during rainfall events.

To the Editor：A 54-year-old man developed painful ulcers on the neck one month ago,followed by periorbital *** ulcers then spread to his trunk,back,and upper *** had muscle weakness,mild muscle soreness with activity,and dysphagia for foods for the past three *** was diagnosed as drug eruption in a local hospital and received irregular corticosteroids therapy for two ***,the ulcers started to *** had a 40 years＆#39; history of *** patient was emaciation,and physical examination revealed heliotrope sign,poikiloderma involving the face,＆quot;V＆quot; sign of the chest,and the upper arm,nail fold telangiectasia,and large well-defined ulcers on the abdomen,back,and upper arms,there was no Gottron sign [Figure 1].It was hard for him to raise his arms and *** triceps and quadriceps were tender to *** revealed elevated levels of antinuclear antibodies （1：40;normal range,〈1：40）,creatin kinase （382 U/L;normal range,56-244 U/L）,lactic dehydrogenase （254 U/L;normal range,109-245 U/L）,white blood cell （19.71 x 109/L,normal range,3.5-9.5 ＆#215; 109/L）,erythrocyte sedimentation rate （78 mm/h;normal range,0-15 mm/h）,C-reactive protein （117.52 mg/L;normal range,〈8 mg/L）,neurospecific enolase （25.03 ng/ml;normal range,0-16.30 ng/ml）,and electromyography showed muscle *** computed tomography plain and enhanced scan suggested possible malignant tumor in left upper lobe [Figure 1].The biopsy of axillary lymph node showed ＆quot;small cell lung cancer＆quot;.Histopathology of ulcer edge revealed ulceration of the epidermis with a dense neutrophils *** was no organisms or vasculitis [Figure 1].

患者,男,39岁,以右眼红、痛入院。他受到一个老者暗示将自己的右眼用木棒击伤。临床表现为右眼中度突出,完全性眼肌麻痹和严重眶周皮肤肿胀。眼科影像学表现为右眼眼窝蜂窝组织炎及眼下静脉血栓形成,两侧海绵窦综合征和海绵窦血栓。报告中无眼内及眶内异物。积极使用静脉抗生素,患者的病情并没有得到改善。在麻醉下检查发现在穹窿下有一个巨大的木质异物。异物去除及强力抗生素治疗下患者病情明显恢复。诊断中发现受伤原因可能是由这个精神病患者自我伤害引起。详细的病史、检查及合理的调查揭示其潜在的病因。敏锐的察觉及相关的临床发现与影像学研究在眶内异物及眶蜂窝组织炎处理中显得尤为有效的。及时诊断和治疗可能进一步减少患者的发病率或死亡率。
