Prevalence and Factors Associated with Concomitant Chinese Medicine Use by Rheumatoid Arthritis Patients in A Multi-Ethnic Asian Population

Objective:To determine the prevalence,factors associated with and patterns of concomitant Chinese medicine(CM)with Western treatment use among patients with rheumatoid arthritis(RA)in a tertiary referral centre(Singapore General Hospital)in ***:We conducted a cross-sectional intervieweradministered survey of a consecutive sample of patients with RA in Singapore General Hospital centre regarding their CM use including data on patient demographics,disease characteristics,concomitant use of CM and reasons,concerns and disclosure patterns from March to August *** and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to determine the associations of CM ***:Prevalence of CM use among the 258 patients surveyed(male:female 42:216;Chinese:Malay:Indian 191:29:34;mean age:61 years;mean duration of RA:10 years)was 46.1%(119/258).On muutivariate analysis,Chinese ethnicity(OR,95%CI:4.11,1.49-11.36),Chinese speakers(OR,95%CI:2.35,1.03-5.54),middle-income group(OR,95%CI:2.53,1.01-6.31)and greater learned helplessness(OR,95%CI:1.13,1.04-1.22)were significantly associated with CM *** CM users disclosed their CM use to CM physicians(87.3%,96/110),sought advice from them on treatment interactions(59.4%,57/96)and how best to combine treatments(49.0%,47/96)than did so with rheumatologists(42.0%,50/119;40.0%,20/50;and 42.0%,21/50,respectively).Forty-two percentage(29/69)of patients who concealed CM use from rheumatologists because their rheumatologists did not specifically enquire about CM ***:Concomitant CM use among patients with RA treated in a tertiary referral centre in Singapore is high but voluntary disclosure is *** associations identified can help doctors identify and enquire about CM use,minimizing potential adverse interactions.

This paper presents the design and analysis of a miniaturized and novel wearable ultra-wideband(UWB)band-notch textile antenna for Body Area Networks(BANs).The major goal of building the antenna for wearable applications with band notch in X-band is to reject the downlink band(7.25 to 7.75 GHz)of satellite communication in the UWB frequency ranges of 3.1–10.6 GHz to keep away from *** Simulation Technology(CST)TM Microwave Studio,which is user-friendly and reliable,was used to model and simulate the *** radiating element of the antenna is designed on Jeans’textile substrate,which has a relative permittivity of *** thickness of the jeans’fabric substrate has been considered to be 1 *** loss,gain,bandwidth,impedance,radiation,and total efficiency,and radiation patterns are presented and *** antenna is simulated placed on the three layers of the human body model,and the on-body results are summarized in comparison with free *** and analysis indicate that this antenna has good band-notch characteristics in the frequency range of 7.25 GHz to 7.75 *** parametric study varying the relative permittivity of Jeans’fabric substrate of this antenna is also *** addition,effects on the antenna parameters of variation of ground plane size have been *** antenna is 25 mm×16 mm×1.07 mm in total *** reveal that this antenna achieves the design goal and performs well both in free space and on the body.

Elevated price of chemical fertilizers and poor nutrient content in conventional organic sources such as municipal solid waste(MSW)compost necessitate the production of nutrient enriched compost which could serve as a potential alternative organic fertilizer *** studied three types of amended compost that were prepared by mixing 20%mustard oil cake(MOC)and 30%poultry manure(PM)or cow dung or sugarcane press mud(SPM)with 50%MSW *** viride was inoculated into every type of *** rate of amended or unamended MSW compost application was 10 t ha^(−1).The use of different amendments improved the nutrient level of MSW compost,of which the N increment was remarkable,ranging from 1.14%N(unamended compost)to 2.9%–3.22%N depending on the types of amendment.A field experiment was conducted to evaluate performances of the amended MSW composts on the yield and nutrient content of potato(variety BARI Alu25).All compost treatments except the sole MSW compost treatment produced significantly higher tuber yields than the sole fertilizer *** press mud based MSW compost+fertilizer treatment produced the highest tuber yield of 31.6 t ha^(−1)(65%increase over 100%fertilizers and 57%increase over 100%compost treatment).The tuber N concentration varied from 0.128%to 0.594%,P from 0.018%to 0.035%,K from 0.213%to 0.313%and S from 0.020%to 0.053%,with the highest result recorded with press mud+fertilizer *** use of amended composts had residual effects on soil N,P,K and S ***,the treatment containing 50%fertilizer+50%compost mixture(MSW:MOC:SPM in a ratio of 5:2:3)performed the best followed by PM amended *** is concluded that integrated use of 10 t ha^(−1) organic amended MSW compost with chemical fertilizers can ensure higher crop yield,nutrient content and sustained soil fertility in nutrient-deficient sub-tropical soil.

Histoplasma capsulatum is the most common cause of en-demic mycosis in developing countries. It is a self-limited and asymptomatic disease in immunocompetent individu-als but remains a frequent cause of opportunistic infection in patients with compromised immune status. Liver in-volvement as a part of disseminated histoplasmosis is well known. However, liver infection as a primary manifestation of histoplasmosis without evidence of primary lung involve-ment is rare. In conclusion, clinicians should be aware of isolated histoplasmosis affecting the hepatobiliary system, and careful evaluation is warranted to confirm the diagno-sis. Given the appropriate clinical context, histoplasmosis should be considered in both immunocompetent and immu-nocompromised patients, regardless of pulmonary symp-toms, in non endemic as well as endemic areas.

The vibration characteristics of a functionally graded material circular cylindrical shell filled with fluid are examined with a wave propagation approach. The shell is filled with an incompressible non-viscous fluid. Axial modal dependence is approximated by exponential functions. A theoretical study of shell vibration frequencies is analyzed for simply supported-simply supported, clamped-simply supported, and clamped-clamped boundary conditions with the fluid effect. The validity and the accuracy of the present method are confirmed by comparing the present results with those available in the literature. Good agreement is observed between the two sets of results.

Objective:To identify the acceptance of the vaccine based on factors influencing the vaccination program and the side effects from vaccinated ***:A cross-sectional online survey of 1529 Bangladeshi adults(≥18 years)was conducted between 17 April,2021 and 26 April,*** analysis of the data included Chi-square test and multinomial logistic regression ***:In total,67.04%of the participants were willing to accept a COVID-19 vaccine,and 45.00%of them in our study had already *** Bangladeshi people were more likely to accept COVID-19 vaccine if the vaccine reduces risk of infectious disease and has no associated health risk after receiving *** the respondents,religions,education level,living area(urban),belif that vaccines protect against infectious diseases and vaccines do not have health-related risk and vaccination was significantly associated with the acceptance of COVID-19 ***,people’s perception on development of natural immunity rather than receiving vaccines was also positively *** than half(57.41%)reported minor side effects such as fever,muscle pain and headache after getting vaccine ***:This study revealed that the acceptance rate was influenced by socio-demographic and health-related characteristics and people are not afraid of this vaccine if they faced minor side effects after receiving *** findings might help the government and policymakers of Bangladesh to implement necessary steps to accomplish this vaccination program effectively.

Medicinal values of aquatic plant genus Nymphoides grown in Asia: A review

Nymphoides is an aquatic genus consisting about 50 species, of which few were accepted as traditional medicinal plants in Asia. The literature review revealed that Nymphoides species are widely used in Ayurvedic medicine as a popular drug, i.e. Tagara. They are also utilized by the traditional local healers of different Asian countries to treat various diseases, like convulsion, jaundice, fever, headache, etc. According to the in vivo and in vitro pharmacological studies, Nymphoides species have been claimed to possess major biological activities like anticonvulsant, antioxidant, hepatoprotective, cytotoxic, antitumor, etc. Biochemical profiling of different aquatic plants of this genus revealed the presence of some important phytochemicals as polyphenolic component, flavonoids, triterpenes, carbohydrates, glycosides, etc. Several valuable bioactive compounds including ephedrine, coumarin, secoiridoid glucosides, methyl quercetin, ferulic acid, foliamenthoic acid, etc. were also known to be isolated and identified from different Nymphoides species. The aim of this review is to analyze the published report based on the medicinal values of different Asian Nymphoides species, to provide the updated information about the ethnomedicinal, pharmacological as well as the phytochemical properties for the first time.
