This research work involves a comparative study of satellite rainfall and synoptic observations in the Republic of Guinea over a 30-year *** methodology used consists,firstly,in assessing rainfall trends over the study period in Guinea’s four natural regions,using the temporal averages of the three stations located in each ***,we calculated the correlations between synoptic and satellite observation data,in order to determine the links between them on the basis of data *** results for synoptic stations on average seasonal rainfall cycles and satellite products show that in Lower Guinea,the CRU(Climatic Research Unit)and GPCC(Global Precipitation Climatology Center)data are good estimates of *** the Fouta Djallon region,they also estimate observations well,but at two synoptic stations,with the exception of Mamou,they underestimate *** Upper Guinea,during the monsoon period,satellites give a good estimate of rainfall in this *** the forest region,these products show highly variable behavior,sometimes underestimating and sometimes overestimating observations,depending on the stations in the zone.

Introduction: Obliterative arterial disease of the lower limbs is a marker of advanced atherosclerosis. It is one of the world’s most common cardiovascular diseases, present in one in five people over the age of 60, and carries an increased risk of morbidity and mortality. The aim of this study was to assess the knowledge of patients and their carers about obliterative arteriopathy of the lower limbs at Conakry University Hospital. Material and Methods: We conducted a descriptive cross-sectional study lasting 3 months, from March 12 to June 12, 2022 in the hospitals of the University Hospital of Conakry (Donka and Ignace Deen). Following free and informed consent, they were interviewed on the basis of a pre-established questionnaire. Socio-demographic data (age, gender, level of education) were collected, and knowledge of obliterative arterial disease of the lower limbs. Results: The study involved 159 people, comprising 106 patients (66.66%) and 53 accompanying persons (33.34%) in the hospitals of the University Hospital of Conakry (Donka and Ignace Deen). The 60 to 79 age group was the most represented (44.7%), with an average age of 55.4 ± 15.9 years and extremes of 20 to 84 years. Half (47.8%) had not attended school, and almost all (96.4%) of those who had attended school had a low level of education (primary and secondary). Almost all of them (91.2%) had never heard of AOMI. Only 5% identified at least one risk factor, diabetes, hypertension and smoking. Amputation was the most frequently identified complication. About 98% did not know that AOMI is associated with myocardial infarction and stroke, and 93.7% did not know of any complications. Almost all the participants (99.4%) had poor knowledge of the following complications. Conclusion: Obliterative arterial disease of the lower limbs could be prevented or delayed by screening and controlling risk factors. Introduction: Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a benign neoplasm that develops from the constituent elements of the prostate. It is a common age-related condition, with more than 50% of men over 50 years old exhibiting symptoms indicative of BPH. It is the main cause of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). Materials and Methods: This was a prospective, descriptive and longitudinal study over a six-month period from December 15, 2023, to May 15, 2024. All patients admitted for BPH and who received medication treatment during this period were included in the study. Results: The average age of patients was 65.4 years, with the 60 to 69-year age group being the most represented (37.18%). There was no statistical link between the level of education and the occurrence of erection dysfunction ED. 66.67% of patients suffered from ED before treatment. Age was a major risk factor. 94.87% of patients were treated with Alpha-blockers due to their tolerance and effectiveness. 14.10% of patients had a history of inguinal herniorrhaphy, often due to the strain of urination and physical labor. 46.16% of patients had hypertension. No significant link was found between comorbidities and ED. 38.45% of patients consumed tobacco or alcohol. Tobacco was a significant risk factor for ED. 57.67% of patients suffered from ED after treatment, indicating an improvement compared to 66.67% before treatment. However, 24.36% did not ejaculate during sexual intercourse. Conclusion: Medication treatment is the first-line treatment for BPH. However, it can lead to retrograde ejaculation, negatively impacting ejaculatory function. The results showed that the treatment improves patients’ sexuality (IIEF-5 score), but age and tobacco consumption increase the risk of sexual dysfunction.

Introduction: Foreign bodies (FB) in the lower airways (LAs) constitute a potentially life-threatening emergency requiring immediate management. The objective of our study was to describe the patient pathway and management of foreign bodies in the lower airways. Methodology: This was a descriptive study with retrospective data collection conducted over a 6-year period (January 1, 2014, to December 31, 2019) in the ENT and Head and Neck Surgery Department of Donka National Hospital. Results: We observed a prevalence of 1.79%. The average age was 5.71 years, with a sex ratio of 1.2. However, 82.61% of the cases originated from rural areas. We noted that 78.83% of patients were referred after visiting 1 to 2 healthcare facilities (75.36%). The consultation delay was 3 days. Penetration syndrome was present in 98.56% of cases. The foreign body incidents occurred during play in 54.84% and during meals in 29.09% of cases. Radiographs were performed in 93.9% of cases. Endoscopy was used for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes in all patients. The foreign bodies were located in the trachea (37.68%), larynx (26.08%), and bronchi (21.73%). Non-organic foreign bodies were predominant (52.17%). Postoperative outcomes were uncomplicated in 95.98% of cases, and the lethality rate was 2.85%. Conclusion: The pathway of patients with foreign bodies in the airways remains unpredictable in our context due to parental hesitations. Early management reduces morbidity and mortality rates.

A Case Report of Congenital Dermal Sinus Tract with Dermoid Cyst and Lipoma

Congenital dermal sinus tract (CDST) is a rare entity of spinal dysraphism with an incidence of 1 in 2500 live births. The presumed etiology relates to a focal failure of disjunction resulting in a persistent adhesion between the neural and cutaneous ectoderm. CDST is commonly associated with other pathologies such as myelomeningocele, split cord malformation, tethered cord and inclusion tumors. The authors report a case of a 2-year-old girl discharging lumbosacral CDST. The preoperative MRI showed the dermal sinus tract with 2 intradural lesions from L1 to L3. The tract was surgically excised followed by complete excision of the cyst and lipoma. The dermal sinus tract was attached to the medullary cone and was cut there, allowing “en bloc” removal of the dermal sinus tract. There were two distinct types of tumor. One cystic is located posterior to the medullary cone and the other is located laterally to the medullary cone, whose appearance suggests a lipoma. Both tumors were removed completely. The dura was closed in a tight manner. The pathological examination confirmed the lipoma and Dermoid Cyst. In the postoperative course, the child had a motor deficit in the lower limbs, which recovered completely after 3 months of physiotherapy.

Introduction: Cardiac rehabilitation is defined as a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to secondary prevention. Its main components include patient assessment (exercise capacity, ventricular function and the existence or risk of arrhythmias), therapeutic education and control of cardiovascular risk factors, optimization of drug therapy, psychosocial support and, of course, personalized physical training. Method: The Basse Terre hospital department served as the setting for this study. All patients admitted to the department for cardiac rehabilitation were our target population. All patients operated on and admitted to the cardiology department for cardiac rehabilitation constituted our study population. A pre-established survey form and patient records were used to collect data. Ethical principles and patient confidentiality were paramount. Results: The prevalence was 13%. The mean age of our patients was 59.66 ± 12.9 years. Valve replacement was 25%;coronary artery bypass grafting was 75%;Kardégic 83.33%, CHBT protocol 83.33%, muscle fatigue 66.66%. 58.33% had 3 - 8 Watts at initial assessment and ≥15 Watts at final assessment. 8.33% atrial dilatation, and 16.66% segmental hypokinesia. 8.33% VO2 and ESV and Q necrosis. Conclusion: Exercise testing is a reliable means of assessing patients’ functional capacity.

Introduction: Urethral prolapse, a rare benign lesion of the female urethra, is considered unusual in children, but it is far from exceptional in girls aged 18 to 24. African origin. The diagnosis is clinical but can be overlooked or confused with other pathologies. Treatment remains controversial. The aim of this work is to study the epidemiological, clinical and therapeutic data of urethral mucosal prolapse in young girls in our department. Materials and methods: Retrospective and descriptive study on urethral mucosal prolapse in little girls identified from the hospitalization records of the Sino-Guinean Friendship Hospital in Conakry. The study period was 5 years. Patients were selected randomly. Outcome assessment focused on the occurrence of recurrences and urinary incontinence. The mean follow-up duration was 24 months. The parameters studied were: Age, clinical and histological findings, therapeutic data and patient outcomes. Results: The incidence of urethral mucosal prolapse in girls in the urology department was 2.2 cases/year. The mean age of the patients was 6.7 years (with extremes of 5 months and 10 years). The age group of 7 to 10 years was the most represented, observed in 63.63% of patients. The most frequent reason for consultation was vulvar bleeding in 7 patients, or 63.63%. Malpighian hyperplasia with a congested chorion was the most observed histological type, in 4 patients. Surgical treatment consisting of complete excision of the prolapsed part had given excellent results. Conclusion: Urethral prolapse is a rare pathology, observed mainly in young black girls. Its diagnosis is based mainly on clinical examination. Surgical treatment gives satisfactory results, both clinically and aesthetically.

The general objective of our study was to describe the clinical and epidemiological aspects of anxiety disorders. This was a retrospective descriptive cross-sectional study, lasting 5 years, from January 01, 2019 to December 31, 2023, on 225 patients seen in consultation for anxiety disorders in the department. The prevalence of anxiety disorders was 2.5% in consultation. The 20 - 29 age group was the most represented at 33.3%. Females were slightly represented at 55.1%, with a sex ratio of 1.2. The secondary level was the most affected, accounting for 36.4% of cases. Insomnia was the most frequent reason for consultation, accounting for 71.1% of cases. A larger general population study would be necessary to better assess the extent of anxiety disorders in Guinea.

Woody Diversity in Cult Places (Cemeteries, Mosques, and Parishes) in Ziguinchor City (Senegal)

Urban and peri-urban forests and trees play an important role by providing ecosystem services. Vegetation in sacred and cult places is among the useful forests and trees, but their characteristics are not well-documented. It’s necessary to assess the potential of biodiversity conservation in sacred and cult places. This research aimed to enhance knowledge of the woody diversity in cult places in Ziguinchor. To achieve this, woody vegetation surveys were conducted to determine floristic composition and, diversity and structural parameters of woody vegetation. A total of 89 species belonging to 71 genera and 33 families were recorded, Fabaceae and Moraceae dominated in cemeteries and parishes, while Arecaceae and Euphorbiaceae were prevalent in mosques. Tree diversity varied according to cult places. Parishes recorded significatively higher diversity (2.2 ± 0.18) than cemeteries (1.59 ± 0.13) and mosques (1.07 ± 0.36). Cult places inflenced significatly the structural parameters. Tree density was higher in cemeteries (482.26 ± 302.71 indiv/ha) compared to parishes (197.61 ± 67.14 indiv/ha) and mosques (32.34 ± 4.89 indiv/ha). Mosques were characterized by higher canopy cover (25.43 ± 11.65 m2/ha), larger (83.72 ± 20.09 cm) and taller (16.28 ± 1.28 m) trees. Natural regeneration was also strongest in cemeteries (91.69% ± 3.715%), followed by parishes (62.22% ± 8.56%) and mosques (38.82% ± 14.5%). The cult places play an important ecological role in biodiversity conservation in urban and peri-urban areas.
