Dietary carnosic acid and seleno-compounds change concentrations of fatty acids, cholesterol, tocopherols and malondialdehyde in fat and heart of lambs

The aim of the current study was to evaluate the impact of carnosic acid(CA),selenised yeast(^(Y)Se)and selenate(^(VI)Se)supplemented to diets,including fish oil(FO)and rapeseed oil(RO),on the content of fatty acids,total cholesterol(TCh),tocopherols and malondialdehyde in the fat located between the thigh muscles and the heart in ***-four male Corriedale lambs were divided into 4 groups of 6 *** were fed a diet with FO and RO(the control diet)or experimental diets containing RO,FO and CA with/without Se(as^(Y)Se or^(VI)Se).The experimental diets without/with^(Y)Se or^(VI)Se changed concentrations of fatty acids in the fat and heart compared to the *** experimental diets increased the levels of c11c14C20:2,c5c8c11c14C20:4,c5c8c11c14c17C20:5 and the sums of long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids(LPUFA)and conjugated linoleic acid isomers in the fat compared to the *** experimental diet containing^(Y)Se or^(VI)Se increased the content of Se,TCh,c11c14C20:2,c8c11c14C20:3,c5c8c11c14C20:4,c5c8c11c14c17C20:5,c7c10c13c16c19C22:5,c4c7c10c13c16c19C22:6 and the concentration sum of n-3LPUFA,n-6LPUFA and tocopherols in the heart in comparison with the control diet and the diet containing only *** diets reduced the concentration of malon-dialdehyde in the fat and heart in comparison with the control *** dietary intervention has great potential for future practical and commercial implementations.

Computer Programs for Prediction of Mining Area Deformation with Time Factor Taken into Consideration

This paper discussed the current of works on computerisation of all problems related to mining subsidence, including the time factor,carried out in the Division of Mining Geodesy of Technical University of Silesia, Poland. First, the formulas implemented in the programs were presented. These formulas considerably increase the description accuracy of final deformations by taking into uncaved strip along extraction rib (extraction margin). They also improve the deformation description of areas located far from the extraction place. Then, the research results aiming to improving the description of deformation with time were introduced. Finally, the Windows based version of the program for the creation of mining geological opinions were presented in the form accepted by Mining Offices of Poland.

Background:The attenuated live varicella vaccine had been shown to be effective in preventing varicella and reducing the disease burden in the United ***,little wock has been done on investigating vaccine effectiveness in China where 3 varicella vaccines are *** the vaccines contain the same strain of virus,the vaccines licensed in China were from manufacturers different from the one licensed in the United *** conducted a matched case-control study to assess the effec- tiveness of the 3 varicella vaccines to use in China. Methods:In *** enrolled 1000 cases from Guangzhou,China and 1000 controls matched by age and place of *** cases were children clinically diagnosed with acute onset of a diffuse maculopapu- lovesicular rash without other apparent *** interviewed the legal guardians of the participants for demographic information and disease history after obtaining informed *** collected information on vaccination status from electronic vaccination records. Results:The 3 varicella vaccines in China(Varitrix from GlaxoSmithK- *** and Shanghai from Changchun and Shanghai Institutes of Biologic Products,respectively) had similar effectiveness:Varilrix 86.4% (95%confidence interval[CI]:72.***.93.2),Changchun 79.5%(95%CI: 58.1,90.0).and Shanghai 92.6%(95%Cl:68.***.98.2).Vaccine effective- ness was higher during the first year after vaccination than during the .subsequent 5 years,but the differences did not reach statistical significance. Conciusious:The varicella vaccines in China are highly effective in preventing clinical *** studies on laboratory-confirmed cases are needed to verify the change of vaccine-induced immunity over time.

Applicability of in Vitro Models in Predicting the in Vivo Bioavailability of Lycopene and β-Carotene from Differently Processed Soups

Presently, there is no clear consensus on the best approach to estimate carotenoid bioavailability. The best alternative would be to use human studies, but they are labour-intensive and expensive and can only be used to investigate a limited number of samples. Hence, a number of in vitro: models have been developed to study pre-absorptive processes and factors affecting bioavailability. The question is, however, how well the results obtained by the various methods correlate to each other and to the in vivo situation. In the present paper, we have compared in vivo data from two human studies on differently processed soups containing carrots, tomato and broccoli, with results obtained by in vitro characterisation of the same soups. In vitro bioaccessibility was estimated by a static in vitro digestion investigating matrix release and micellarization of carotenoids and by uptake studies in a human intestinal cell line (Caco-2). In vivo data was obtained from clinical studies measuring total plasma carotenoid concentrations in human subjects after 4 weeks daily consumption of the soups. Comparison of the in vitro and in vivo results indicate that the combination of a two-step in vitro digestion and Caco-2 cells seems to be a useful tool for estimation of β-carotene bioaccessibility and screening of factors governing the release of β-carotene from this type of food. For lycopene the in vitro and in vivo results were less consistent, suggesting that reliable prediction of lycopene bioavailability might be more problematic.
