Polyploidy is a major factor in the evolution of plants,yet we know little about the origin and evolution of polyploidy in intertidal *** study aimed to identify the evolutionary transitions in three truemangrove species of the genus Acanthus distributed in the Indo-West Pacific *** this purpose,we took an integrative approach that combined data on morphology,cytology,climatic niche,phylogeny,and biogeography of 493 samples from 42 geographic *** results show that the Acanthus ilicifolius lineage distributed east of the Thai-malay Peninsula possesses a tetraploid karyotype,which is morphologically distinct from that of the lineage on the west *** haplotype networks and phylogenetic trees for the chloroplast genome and eight nuclear genes reveal that the tetraploid species has two sub-genomes,one each from *** and ***,the paternal and maternal parents,*** structure analysis also supports the hybrid speciation history of the new tetraploid *** two sub-genomes of the tetraploid species diverged from their diploid progenitors during the *** niche models revealed that the tetraploid species not only occupied the near-entire niche space of the diploids,but also expanded into novel *** findings suggest that *** species distributed on the east side of the Thai-malay Peninsula should be regarded as a new species,***,which originated from hybridization between *** and ***,followed by chromosome *** is the first report of a true-mangrove allopolyploid species that can reproduce sexually and clonally reproduction,which explains the long-term adaptive potential of the species.

The major findings in this report are(ⅰ)development of nanocomposite photocatalyst working through Z-scheme charge transfer pathway across the heterojunction,(ⅱ)utilization of direct sunlight as the photo-source,and(ⅲ)prospect of ligand-hole in photocatalysis through enhanced sub-band gap absorption,The photocatalysts,namely LaNiO_(3),g-C_(3)N_(4) and LaNiO_(3)/g-C_(3)N_(4) nanocomposites were synthesized via facile route and were characterized for their structure,morphology,microstructure,texture,elemental mapping and surface oxidation states by using several physicochemical *** photocatalytic performance of the nanocomposite was tested through the degradation of hazardous azo dye pollutants,namely reactive black 5 and methylene blue as well as the colorless antibiotic-pollutant tetracycline hydrochloride in aqueous solution in presence of natural sunlight with excellent recycling *** 10%LaNiO_(3)/g-C_(3)N_(4) nanocomposite sample shows the best catalytic activity,degrading respectively 94%,98.6%and 88.1%of reactive black 5,methylene blue and tetracycline hydrochloride in60,180 and 120 *** photocatalytic activity of the nanocomposite phase is several times superior to that of the pure *** improvements of photocatalytic activity of g-C_(3)N_(4) in the nanocomposite have been rationalized through the construction of direct Z-scheme heterojunction and suppression of electron-hole pair recombination *** enhanced photo-absorption of the nanocomposite can possibly be related to sub-bandgap absorption,which is associated to the midgap state originating from ligand-hole formation or defects in the *** photodegradation process is mediated through the formation of super oxide radical(O_(2))and hole(h^(+))as the main responsible species.

In the present experiment with ongoing concentration(0µM,100µM,250µM,500µM and 1000µM)of 2,4-D,the responses of Azolla pinnata *** evaluated based on cellular ***,plants were significantly tolerated up to 1000µM of 2,4-D with its *** was accompanied by a steady decline of indole acetic acid(IAA)concentration in tissues with 78.8%over the *** bound H^(+)-ATPase activity was over expressed within a range of 1.14 to 1.25 folds with activator(KCl)and decreased within a range of 57.3 to 74.6%in response to inhibitor(Vanadate)*** regards to IAA metabolism,plants recorded a linear increase with wall bound oxidase activity up to maximum concentration of 2,*** variations were more moderated when wall bound IAA-oxidase recorded a linear increase proportionate to the 2,4-D *** was more extended with the presence of different isoforms of IAA-oxidase which was much more pronounced with distinct polymorphisms of expressed proteins,however,not independent to the 2,4-D *** like spermine,spermidine and putrescine(spm,spd and put)were not consistent in concentration with the dosages of 2,*** these,plants were induced to apoplastic NAD(P)H oxidase activity maximally by 1.6 folds under 500µM 2,4-D over ***,putrescine responded more or less consistently and recorded maximally 11.9 folds at 500µM 2,4-D as compared to the ***(P)H oxidase activity recorded maximally 1.6 folds against control and remain consistent throughout the concentrations of 2,*** along with APX were more linear in responses through the concentration of 2,4-D except CAT as compared to *** enzymatic antioxidative activity,peroxidases(GPX and APX)were overexpresed in a similar manner except for catalase with a non-significant *** stabilization of cellular redox,glutathione reductase attended maximum value by 2.45 folds at 1000µM evidenced with significant variations in protein polymo

Impeded Carbohydrate Metabolism in Rice Plants under Submergence Stress

The detrimental effects of submergence on physiological performances of some rice varieties with special references to carbohydrate metabolisms and their allied enzymes during post-flowering stages have been documented and clarified in the present investigation. It was found that photosynthetic rate and concomitant translocation of sugars into the panicles were both related to the yield. The detrimental effects of the complete submergence were recorded in generation of sucrose, starch, sucrose phosphate synthase and phosphorylase activity in the developing panicles of the plants as compared to those under normal or control （i.e. non-submerged） condition. The accumulation of starch was significantly lower in plants under submergence and that was correlated with ADP-glucose pyrophosphorylase activity. Photosynthetic rate was most affected under submergence in varying days of post-flowering and was also related to the down regulation of Ribulose bisphosphate carboxylase activity. However, under normal or control condition, there recorded a steady maintenance of photosynthetic rate at the post-flowering stages and significantly higher values of Ribulose bisphosphate carboxylase activity. Still, photosynthetic rate of the plants under both control and submerged conditions had hardly any significant correlation with sugar accumulation and other enzymes of carbohydrate metabolism like invertase with grain yield. Finally, plants under submergence suffered significant loss of yield by poor grain filling which was related to impeded carbohydrate metabolism in the tissues. It is evident that loss of yield under submergence is attributed both by lower sink size or sink capacity （number of panicles, in this case） as well as subdued carbohydrate metabolism in plants and its subsequent partitioning into the grains.

Leukemic stromal hematopoietic microenvironment negatively regulates the normal hematopoiesis in mouse model of leukemia

Background and Objective: Leukemic microenvironment has a major role in the progression of leukemia. Leukemic cells can induce reversible changes in microenvironmental components, especially the stromal function which results in improved growth conditions for maintaining the malignant leukemic cells. This study aimed to investigate the survival advantage of leukemic cells over normal hematopoietic cells in stromal microenvironment in long term. Methods: The mice were injected intraperitoneally with N-N’ ethylnitrosourea (ENU) to induce leukemia; the mice received injection of normal saline were used as control. At 180 days after ENU induction, the mice were killed and the bone marrows were cultured for 19 days. Colony-forming assays were used to analyze the formation of various cell colonies. The expression of Sca-1, CD146, VEGFR2, CD95, pStat3, pStat5, and Bcl-xL in marrow cells were detected by flow cytometry. Results: Long-term leukemic bone marrow culture showed abnormal elongated stromal fibroblasts with almost absence of normal hematopoietic cells. Adherent cell colonies were increased, but CFU-F and other hematopoietic cell colonies were significantly decreased in leukemia group (P< 0.001). Primitive progenitor-specific Sca-1 receptor expression was decreased with subsequent increased expression of CD146 and VEGFR-2 in leukemic bone marrow cells. Decreased Fas antigen expression with increased intracellular pStat3, pStat5 and Bcl-xL proteins were observed in leukemic bone marrow cells. Conclusions: Stromal microenvironment shows altered morphology and decreased maturation in leukemia. Effective progenitor cells are decreased in leukemia with increased leukemia-specific cell population. Leukemic microenvironment plays a role in promoting and maintaining the leukemic cell proliferation and survivability in long term.

Assessment of Some Biomarkers under Submergence Stress in Some Rice Cultivars Varying in Responses

Three rice varieties, significantly differed in their ability, when subjected to submergence have been studied in relation to physiological attributes. On account of oxidative stress, MDA content and carbonyl content were measured. The MDA content was maximally decreased in FR13A and minimally decreased in Swarna irrespective of shoots and roots. A higher increase in carbonyl content was found in Swarna followed by FR13A and Swarna Sub1A in both shoots and roots. The activity of antioxidant moieties like total phenolics content and flavonoid content were more increased under submergence than that in air except for Swarna. FR13A showed maximum increase in Phenolics and flavonoid content in both shoots and roots when subjected to submergence. A sharp increase in guaiacol peroxidase and glutathione reductase characterized the plants’ response to sub-mergence irrespective of varieties. The expression of Guaiacol peroxidase was increased in FR13A followed by Swarna Sub1A and Swarna. Glutathione reductase was measured in terms of oxidation of NADP(H) and both FR13A and Swarna Sub1A recorded maximum oxidation than Swarna under submergence. With regards to isozymic variation plants were differed to the intensities of poly-peptide, however not in numbers and may be suggestive for concomitant gene expression to sub-mergence. The analysis clarification for possible biomarkers with regards to cellular responses of rice plants under submergence has been anticipated.

Metallothioneins (MTs) were discovered in 1957 by Margoshes and Vallee and identified as low-molecular weight and sulphydryl rich proteins. It is not surprising that most mammalian tissues contain age related basal levels of MTs since they are involved in metalloregulatory processes that include cell growth and multiplication. In an effort to understand the biology of this intriguing tumor, various biomarkers such as oncogenes, p53 tumor suppressor gene, waf 1 protein, proliferating cell nuclear antigen, telomerase, microsatellite markers and cytogenetic changes have been examined. One biomarker which has recently shown to be expressed in various human tumors but still less reported in carcinoma is MT. Immunohistochemical detection of MT proteins in cold acetone-fixed paraffin embedded liver sections was performed by the streptavidin-avidin-biotin immuno- peroxidase complex method.
