The propagation and interaction between ion acoustic multi-solitons in an unmagnetized multicomponent plasma consisting of fluid hot ions, positrons and both hot and cold electrons, are investigated by employing the extended Poincare–Lighthill–kuo（PLk） method. Two different kortewege-de Vries（k-dV） equations are derived. The Hirota＇s method is applied to get the k-dV multi-solitons solution. The phase shift due to the overtaking and head- on collision of the multi-solitons is obtained.

In a hydroponic based experiment, the Cd toxicity is monitored with some cellular responses of Marsilea plant. Initially, plants were grown under varying concentrations (0, 50, 100 and 200 μM of Cd) of cadmium (Cd) with supplementation of 2 mM spermidine (Spd). The oxidative stress developed by Cd overaccumulation was measured with fall in Relative Growth Rate (RGR) by 27.11% to 59.83% growth reduction over control under varying Cd treatments. The retrieval of RGR was recovered by 1.59 folds as compared to the highest concentration of Cd (200 μM) when plants were fed with Spd. A concomitant degradation of chlorophyll was recorded in dose-dependant manner, however, the retrieval was not much pronounced with Spd. On the contrary, the non-oxidant thiol had borne more clarity with ongoing Cd concentration and appeared to be 40.51% increase maximally for GSH: GSSG at the highest concentration of Cd. Spd has minimized the ratio by 27.4%. The recovery of osmotic turgidity was indexed with a sharp rise in glycine betaine by 3.86 folds maximum at the highest concentration of Cd over control which declined by 30.9% with Spd. Another cellular response of treated plants was more evident from their isozymic profiles with regard to superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), guaiacol peroxidase (GPX). The intensity of protein expression was significantly variable but not in band numbers as evident from Cd treated plants. In vitro enzyme assay of catalase showed as declining trend within the limit of 33.13% to 43.22% which was reported by 1.45 folds when Spd was applied. Therefore, from the present study, the cellular responses of Marsilea plant which showed compatibility for their expression with Cd toxicity could be hypothesized as a case of bioindication.

The present study was carried out to investigate the extent of cadmium (Cd) accumulation with its possible impact on physiological and biochemical basis of heavy metal tolerance in Marsilea minuta Linn. Cd salt (0 μM, 50 μM and 100 μM) was allowed to absorb by the plants for prolong days in hydroponic culture and a significant deterioration of the plant biomass was recorded. However, roots absorbed more metals than the leaves. Plants recorded a significant rise of superoxide (O-2) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). A noticeable amount of protein oxidation and lipid peroxidation were in proportionate to Cd accumulation. Anthocyanin and flavonoid content were decreased as compared to control condition. Superoxide dismutase (SOD), guaiacol peroxidase (GPX) and glutathione reductase (GR) contributed their antioxidative functions according to the Cd doses. The expression of GR was also evident from its activity staining in gel. So, it may suggest that antioxidative enzymes are up regulated and likely to be responsible for tolerance to Cd induced oxidative stress in Marsilea minuta Linn.

The present investigation embodies with some distinct physiological responses of rice seedlings bearing sub1A allele when cultured under soil moisture deficit condition. In order to estimate the extent of variation of sub1A allele in cv. Swarna Sub1, few specific responses were recorded. Ongoing days (2, 4 and 8) of water stress, rice seedlings were mostly concerned with regulation of root growth through 1.24%, 4.10% and 8.96% as compared to control. When relative growth rate (RGR) of the biomass was considered, it recorded a significant down regulation maximum by 27.27% over non-stressed plants. The light absorbing capacity of foliages in terms of leaf mass ratio (15.62%) and specific leaf weight (8.45%) was also curtailed under stress contiguously with total dry matter accumulation. For light harnessing mechanism, the contributing pigments were most significantly (p ≤ 0.05) affected with maximum variation for chlorophyll (31.29%), lycopene (79.31%) and carotenoids (55.31%) over control. NAR was strikingly differed by 32.72% under water stress in average. To support the water stress related depletion of moisture tension, plants recorded RWC with a ranges of 6.62% to 21.57% under stress than control. In balance of cellular dehydration rice seedlings were recorded 6.72% loss of proline, but up-regulated the release of free amino acids by 1.35 fold. In expression of generic potential for sub1A allele, the growth inhibition even under water deficit was evident from carbohydrate depletion by 10.93%, 11.42% and 24.35% through days of treatments. This was supported by depletion of apoplastic and cellular invertase activities by 90.90% and 72.91%. The possibility for sub1A in tolerance of deficit water status in rice culture has been discussed in more details.

AIM： To investigate the chemopreventive efficacy of the Indian medicinal plant Acanthus ilicifolius L Acanthaceae in a transplantable Ehrlich ascites carcinoma （EAC）- bearing murine model.METHODS： Male Swiss albino mice were divided into four groups： Group A was the untreated normal control; Group B was the EAC control mice group that received serial, intraperitoneal （ip） inoculations of rapidly proliferating 2 × 10^5 viable EAC cells in 0.2 mL of sterile phosphate buffered saline; Group C was the plant extract-treated group that received the aqueous leaf extract （ALE） of the plant at a dose of 2.5 mg/kg body weight by single ip injections, once daily for 10, 20 and 30 consecutive days following tumour inoculation （ALE control）; and Group D was the EAC ＋ ALE- treatment group. The chemopreventive potential of the ALE was evaluated in a murine model by studying various biological parameters and genotoxic markers, such as tumour cell count, mean survival of the animals, haematological indices, hepatocellular histology, immunohistochemical expression of liver metallothionein （MT） protein, sister-chromatid exchanges （SCEs）, and DNA alterations.RESULTS： Treatment of the EAC-bearing mice with the ALE significantly （P 〈 0.001） reduced viable tumour cell count by 68.34% （228.7 × 10^6 ± 0.53） when compared to EAC control mice （72.4 × 10^6 ± 0.49）, and restored body and organ weights almost to the normal values. ALE administration also increased （P 〈 0.001） mean survival of the hosts from 35 ± 3.46 d in EAC control mice to 83 ± 2.69 d in EAC ＋ ALE-treated mice. Haematological indices also showed marked improvement with administration of ALE in EAC-bearing animals. There was a significant increase in RBC count （P 〈 0.001）, hemoglobin percent （P 〈 0.001）, and haematocrit value （P 〈 0.001） from 4.3 ± 0.12, 6.4 ± 0.93, and 17.63 ± 0.72 respectively in EAC control mice to 7.1 ± 0.13, 12.1 ± 0.77, and 30.23 ± 0.57 respectively in EAC ＋ ALE-treated group, along with concurrent de

Magnetic confinement of fusion plasma has a wide range of issues to be addressed. Convective transport of plasma in the scrape-off layer of magnetic confinement devices is an interesting research topic for scientists and engineers. The interest in scrape-off layer convective transport has grown in last two decades because of its effect on plasma interaction with the first wall and divertor. By increasing the particle flux into the far scrape-off layer, blobs negatively affect limiters, radio frequency antennas and the first wall. Increased convective heat transport influences core plasma confinement, at least in L-mode plasmas. Here we have reported blob formation in the absent of external magnetic field. It is observed that at low pressure -0.01 rob, transport seems to be dominated by diffusive process. At pressure 〉 1 mb, we observe convective transport in high speed imaging experiments. The role of background neutrals outside plasma boundary has the befitting answer for this phenomenon. Plasma temperature is the other key player. Another interesting observation is that at diffusive transport regime plasma life time is of the order of voltage pulse duration fed to plasma source, where as at convective transport regime plasma life time is increased appreciably.

Detection of hepatitis B virus infection: A systematic review

AIM: To review published methods for detection of hepatitis B virus(HBV) ***: A thorough search on Medline database was conducted to find original articles describing different methods or techniques of detection of HBV, which are published in English in last 10 years. Articles outlining methods of detection of mutants or drug resistance were excluded. Full texts and abstracts(if full text not available) were reviewed thoroughly. Manual search of references of retrieved articles were also done. We extracted data on different samples and techniques of detection of HBV, their sensitivity(Sn), specificity(Sp) and ***: A total of 72 studies were reviewed. HBV was detected from dried blood/plasma spots, hepatocytes, ovarian tissue, cerumen, saliva, parotid tissue, renal tissue, oocytes and embryos, cholangiocarcinoma tissue, etc. Sensitivity of dried blood spot for detecting HBV was > 90% in all the studies. In case of seronegative patients, HBV DNA or serological markers have been detected from hepatocytes or renal tissue in many instances. Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay and Chemiluminescent immunoassay(CLIA) are most commonly used serological tests for detection. CLIA systems are also used for quantitation. Molecular techniques are used qualitatively as well as for quantitative detection. Among the molecular techniques version 2.0 of the Cobas Ampliprep/Cobas Taq Man assay and Abbott's real time polymerase chain reaction kit were found to be most sensitive with a lower detection limit of only 6.25 IU/m L and 1.48 IU/m L respectively. CONCLUSION: Serological and molecular assays are predominant and reliable methods for HBV detection. Automated systems are highly sensitive and quantify HBV DNA and serological markers for monitoring.

knowledge and Skills for Management of Sexually Transmitted Infections by Rural Medical Practitioners in Bangladesh

Sexually transmitted infection (STI) management is considered rudimentary among rural medical practitioners (RMPs) in Bangladesh. We sought to understand the level of knowledge and skills in STI management and to assess the impact of a two-day training orientation among RMPs in Tangail district. Data were collected through a baseline survey of 225 practicing RMPs in the study area and a three-month follow-up survey of 99 RMPs who participated in a two-day STI/HIV orientation training. The level of formal training among RMPs ranged from none (22.7%), to paramedical training (14.7%) and local medical assistant training (62.6%). The baseline survey revealed a low level of STI/HIV knowledge and misconceptions about the transmission of STI/HIV among RMPs. RMPs mostly prescribed first line antibiotics for treatment of common reproductive tract infections (RTIs) including STIs, but they rarely prescribed the correct dosages according to the national RTI/STI management guidelines. Only 3% of RMPs were able to correctly answer all four HIV transmission (unprotected sexual intercourse, blood transfusion, needle sharing and mother to child transmission) questions at baseline, while 94.9% of RMPs answered all four correctly at three months following the training (p = 0.001). Only 10% of RMPs reported suggesting the recommended drug (azithromycin) and only 2% mentioned about the recommended dosage (2 gm single dose) for the treatment of urethritis/cervicitis;compared to 49.5% suggested azithromycin at follow-up with 39.4% mentioned the recommended 2 gm single dose (p = 0.001). Our study found low level of knowledge and poor practices related RTI/STI management among RMPs. Short orientation training and education intervention shown promise to increase knowledge and management skills for RTIs/STIs.

Association of TAP1 Gene Polymorphism in Human Papilloma Virus Related Oropharyngeal Cancer

Background: Polymorphisms of TAP1 gene might be pertinent in development of cancer by altering the immune response. We studied the association of TAP1 gene polymorphism with HPV related oropharyngeal cancer. Methods: This prospective study consisted of 200 subjects divided into three groups;Group A—HPV positive oropharyngeal cancer (17/100), Group B—HPV negative oropharyngeal cancer (83/100) and Group C—Controls. TAP1ile333val polymorphism genotyping was performed by ARMS-PCR. Results: No significant difference was observed in the distribution of Val/Val genotype of Group A in comparison to Group C (OR = 0.663, 95% CI = 0.164 - 2.688, p = 0.742) and Group B (OR = 1.725, 95% CI = 0.388 - 7.675, p = 0.677) and thus was not associated with HPV associated cancer. But the frequency of Val/Val genotype was found to be significantly decreased in Group B as compared to controls and was linked with increased risk of oropharyngeal cancers (OR = 0.38, 95% CI = 0.15 - 0.97, p = 0.048). Conclusion: TAP1i333v gene polymorphism was not associated with HPV positive oropharyngeal cancer;however decreased frequency of Val/Val genotype raises the risk of oropharyngeal cancer.
