Responses of Lowland, Upland and Aerobic Rice Genotypes to Water Limitation During Different Phases

Rice yield reduction due to water limitation depends on its severity and duration and on the phenological stage of its *** exposed three contrasting rice genotypes,IR64,UPLRi7 and Apo(adapted to lowland,upland and aerobic conditions,respectively),to three water regimes(puddle,100%and 60%field capacity)in pots during the vegetative(GSI),flowering(GSII)and grain filling(GSIII)*** at all the three stages significantly reduced yield especially in lowland genotype *** of water limitation was more severe at GSII than at the other two *** at GSI stage reduced both source activity(leaf area and photosynthetic rate)and sink capacity(tiller number or panicle number per pot).When stress was imposed at GSII,spikelet fertility was most affected in all the three *** both GSII and GSIII,although leaf area was constant in all the three water regimes,estimated relative whole-plant photosynthesis was strongly associated with yield *** photosynthesis due to stress at any given stage was found to have direct impact on *** to the other genotypes,Apo had deeper roots and maintained a better water relation,thus,higher carbon gain and spikelet viability,and ultimately,higher biomass and productivity under water-limited ***,screening for these stage-dependent adaptive mechanisms is crucial in breeding for sustained rice production under water limitation.

Drought tolerance is governed by constitutive and acquired *** them has relevance for sustaining crop productivity under *** levels of stress induce specific mechanisms that protect metabolism when stress becomes ***,we report a comparative assessment of“acquired drought tolerance(ADT)”traits in two rice cultivars,IR64(drought susceptible)and Apo(tolerant),and a drought-tolerant wheat cultivar,*** seedlings were exposed to progressive concentrations of methyl viologen(MV),a stress inducer,before transferring to a severe concentration.“Induced”seedlings showed higher tolerance and recovery growth than seedlings exposed directly to severe stress.A novel phenomic platform with an automated irrigation system was used for precisely imposing soil moisture stress to capture ADT traits during the vegetative *** progression of drought was achieved through a software-controlled automated irrigation *** facility allowed the maintenance of the same level of soil moisture irrespective of differences in transpiration,and hence,this platform provided the most appropriate method to assess ADT *** biomass decreased more in IR64 than in *** wheat cultivar showed lower levels of damage and higher recovery growth even compared to *** of ROS-scavenging enzymes and drought-responsive genes was significantly higher in Apo than in IR64,but differences were only marginal between Apo and *** wheat cultivar showed significantly higher stomatal conductance,carbon gain,and biomass than the rice cultivars,under *** differences in ADT traits between cultivars as well as between species can be utilised for improving drought tolerance in crop plants.

Simultaneous occurrence of drought and heat stress will have significant negative impact on rice yield,especially under upland *** projected increase in global temperatures and reduced precipitation will increase the frequency of occurrence and intensity of these stresses,threatening rice *** recognizing the importance of combined stress in rice,the knowledge generated in this area is very *** complex,understanding combined stress tolerance of rice under water saving cultivation is more critical towards development of climate resilient rice ***,we summarized the effects of combined stress on rice physiology with more emphasis on reproductive *** responses,phenotyping and physiology challenges and potential strategies for improving combined stress tolerance in rice are also discussed.

This article discusses an economic order quantity model for non-instantaneous deteriorating items in which the demand is assumed to be a linear function of time over an infinite planning *** addition,the salvage value associated with the deteriorated units is also *** shortages are allowed and partially backlogged.A mathematical model is framed to obtain the replenishment policy which aids the retailer to minimize the total inventory *** objective of this work is to minimize the total inventory cost and to find the optimal length of replenishment and the optimal order *** theory developed in this article is illustrated using numerical examples.A computational algorithm is designed to find the optimal *** analysis is carried out to study the changes in the effect on the optimal solutions and some managerial insights are obtained.

Endoscopy plays a key role in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Colonoscopy has been traditionally used in the diagnosis of IBD and helps in determination of an important end point in patient management, “mucosal healing”. However, the involvement of an advanced endoscopist has expanded with innovations in therapeutic and newer imaging techniques. Endoscopists are increasingly being involved in the management of anastomotic and small bowel strictures in these patients. The advent of balloon enteroscopy has helped us access areas not deemed possible in the past for dilations. An advanced endoscopist also plays an integral part in managing ileal pouch-anal anastomosis complications including management of pouch strictures and sinuses. The use of rectal endoscopic ultrasound has been expanded for imaging of perianal fistulae in patients with Crohn’s disease and appears much more sensitive than magnetic resonance imaging and exam under anesthesia. Advanced endoscopists also play an integral part in detection of dysplasia by employing advanced imaging techniques. In fact the paradigm for neoplasia surveillance in IBD is rapidly evolving with advancements in endoscopic imaging technology with pancolonic chromoendoscopy becoming the main imaging modality for neoplasia surveillance in IBD patients in most institutions. Advanced endoscopists are also called upon to diagnose primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) and also offer options for endoscopic management of strictures through endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). In addition, PSC patients are at increased risk of developing cholangiocarcinoma with a 20% lifetime risk. Brush cytology obtained during ERCP and use of fluorescence in situ hybridization which assesses the presence of chromosomal aneuploidy (abnormality in chromosome number) are established initial diagnostic techniques in the investigation of patients with biliary strictures

The interaction between inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)and hepatobiliary manifestations represents a classic example of liver–gut *** importance of liver–gut crosstalk in IBD is demonstrated in the pathogenesis and outcome of primary sclerosing cholangitis(PSC)in IBD *** G4-associated cholangitis(IAC),which has recently been described in UC patients,may also illustrate the significance of gut–liver interaction in these *** of these hepatobiliary manifestations influences the outcome of associated IBD,in particular ulcerative colitis(UC),and vice *** pathogenesis of PSC is postulated to be related to gut inflammation in IBD that results in inflammation in the portal tracts(the‘leaky gut’).Enterohepatic circulation of lymphocytes from the gut to the liver is also of potential relevance to PSC pathogenesis and *** presence of PSC and gut inflammation in IBD influences the course and outcomes of both *** research is required,to understand the mutual effect of liver–gut crosstalk in the outcomes of UC patients,and highlights the importance of an interdisciplinary approach—involving gastroenterologists,hepatologists,advanced endoscopists and liver transplant surgeons—in the management of these patients.

Effect of Nitrogen Doping on the Electrical Properties of 3C-SiC Thin Films for High-Temperature Sensors Applications

3C-SiC is a promising structural material for piezoresistive sensors used in high-temperature applications. For sensor development, the preparation of sensor materials and study of its electrical properties, such as resistivity, barrier height of grain boundaries, and temperature coefficient of resistivity, are important in addition to structural properties and these have to be optimized. In the present work, 3C-SiC thin film with in situ doping of nitrogen is prepared through low- pressure chemical vapor deposition by using methyl trichloro silane, ammonia, and hydrogen as precursors. Electrical properties of deposited 3C-SiC thin films with varying nitrogen doping concentration through four probe technique are studied. Atomic force microscopy investigations are carried out to study the grain size on and average root-mean-squared roughness 3C-SiC thin films. A decrease in the degree of crystallinity is observed in nitrogen-doped 3C-SiC thin films. The sheet resistivity of nitrogen-doped 3C-SiC thin film is found to decrease with increase in temperature in the range from 303 to 823 K. The sheet resistivity, average temperature coefficient of resistance, and barrier height of the grain boundaries of film doped with 17 at.% of nitrogen are 0.14 cm, -1.0 x 10-n/K, and 0.01 eV, respectively. Comparing all the nitrogen-doped 3C-SiC thin films, the film doped with 17 at.% of nitrogen exhibits an improved structural and electrical properties and it can be used as sensing material for high-temperature applications.
