Insecticide susceptibility in larval populations of the West Nile vector Culex pipiens L.(Diptera: Culicidae) in saudi Arabia

Objective: To investigate the susceptibility to some conventional and non-conventional insecticides in laboratory and field larval populations of the West Nile vector Culex pipiens L.(Cx. pipiens), the dominant species in Jeddah Province, saudi ***: The tested conventional insecticides were Actikil and Pesgard, while the nonconventional ones were Bacilod, Dudim and Baycidal. Probit analysis and photomicroscopical observations were carried out to shed light on acute toxicity in laboratory and field Cx. pipiens ***: Cx. pipiens were more susceptible to Pesgard(LC50: 0.045 and 0.032 mg/L)than Actikil(0.052 and 0.038 mg/L) and Bacilod(0.129 and 0.104 mg/L), for the field and laboratory strains, respectively. Results showed that treatments with the chitin synthesis inhibitor Dudim and Baycidal evoked morphological effects similar to those induced by other insect growth regulators. According to IC50 values obtained(concentration which to inhibit the emergence of 50% of mosquito adults), the compound Dudim(0.000 3 and 0.000 1 mg/L) was more effective against Cx. pipiens L. mosquitoes than Baycidal(0.000 4 and 0.000 3 mg/L) for both the field and laboratory strains, ***: Our results provide baseline data to enhance control programs and orient public health decisions on the selection of pesticides against mosquito vectors in saudi Arabia.

Explainable Deep Fake Framework for Images Creation and Classification

Deep learning is a practical and efficient technique that has been used extensively in many domains. Using deep learning technology, deepfakes create fake images of a person that people cannot distinguish from the real one. Recently, many researchers have focused on understanding how deepkakes work and detecting using deep learning approaches. This paper introduces an explainable deepfake framework for images creation and classification. The framework consists of three main parts: the first approach is called Instant ID which is used to create deepfacke images from the original one;the second approach called Xception classifies the real and deepfake images;the third approach called Local Interpretable Model (LIME) provides a method for interpreting the predictions of any machine learning model in a local and interpretable manner. Our study proposes deepfake approach that achieves 100% precision and 100% accuracy for deepfake creation and classification. Furthermore, the results highlight the superior performance of the proposed model in deep fake creation and classification.

Patterns of Infertility and Abortion in saudi Arabia: A Cross-sectional study

Background: Infertility and abortion are significant reproductive health concerns globally, impacting individuals' well-being and healthcare systems. In saudi Arabia, cultural, social, and religious factors influence perceptions and management of these issues, necessitating research to understand the patterns and associated factors. study Aim: This cross-sectional study aimed to investigate the patterns of infertility and abortion among 458 women in saudi Arabia, focusing on demographic profiles, reproductive histories, medical conditions, and lifestyle factors. Methodology: Participants were recruited from healthcare facilities, and data on age, BMI, reproductive history, medical conditions, assisted reproduction methods, and lifestyle behaviors were collected. statistical analyses, including chi-square tests, were conducted to examine associations between variables. Results: The majority of participants were aged 30 - 39 years (47.4%), with 76.9% experiencing secondary infertility. Among those with offspring (76.9%), 31% reported using assisted reproduction methods, primarily ovarian stimulators (54.2%). Abortion history was reported by 39.5% of participants. significant associations were found between age and infertility type (X2 = 5.8, p = 0.054), having offspring and infertility type (X2 = 458.0, p = 0.001), menstrual irregularity and infertility type (X2 = 11.4, p = 0.001), and abortion history and delayed fertility (X2 = 10.4, p = 0.001). Conclusion: Our study reveals significant associations between demographic, medical, and lifestyle factors with infertility patterns and abortion history among saudi women. These findings emphasize the need for tailored interventions addressing medical conditions, age-related factors, and access to reproductive healthcare services.

Giant two-photon absorption of anatase TiO_(2) in Au/TiO_(2) core-shell nanoparticles

We report on deep-to-near-UV transient absorption spectra of core-shell Au∕siO_(2) and Au∕TiO_(2) nanoparticles(NPs) excited at the surface plasmon resonance of the Au core, and of UV-excited bare anatase TiO_(2) NPs. The bleaching of the first excitonic transition of anatase TiO_(2) at ~3.8 e V is a signature of the presence of electrons/holes in the conduction band(CB)/valence band(VB) of the material. We find that while in bare anatase TiO_(2) NPs, two-photon excitation does not occur up to the highest used fluences(1.34 mJ∕cm^(2)), it takes place in the TiO_(2) shell at moderate fluences(0.18 mJ∕cm^(2)) in Au∕TiO_(2) core-shell NPs, as a result of an enhancement due to the plasmon resonance. We estimate the enhancement factor to be of the order of ~10~8–10~9. Remarkably, we observe that the bleach of the 3.8 eV band of TiO_(2) lives significantly longer than in bare TiO_(2), suggesting that the excess electrons/holes in the conduction/valence band are stored longer in this material.
